news on ricky burns up here in scotland

Post by boxerbob »

on the national news up here they announced ricky burns next defence of his title vs laryea. Many of us knew that already but it also said that burns will be moving up in weight in the future

i know billy nelson posts on here so hopefully he responds

is ricky tight at the weight?? height wise he is very big for super feather and a move to lightweight or even in the future light welter might be on the cards. Hes only 27 so he has plenty of time to do this.

has anybody heard anything else??

I hate to sound like a knob, but it's now two easy defences on paper; Evenson and Laryea. It's not right - I understand an easy defence after the Martinez war, but two? Come on. I don't see what's wrong with Steve Foster jr.

SFJ turned the fight down when Burns was Commonwealth Champion as he didnt want to fight in Scotland. Why should Burns accomadate him or his Promoters now?

How about cause its a good fight...... Stephen Foster looked great in winning the EBU title and held his own against Arthur (who demolished Burns).

ricky burns is entitled to fight who he wants in the wbo ranking at the moment because he was the mandatory challenger when he beat martinez.

you can see why his team are setting up these fights against lesser opposition , it would be crazy to match him with the no1 contender or an another champion

perez and cruz are fighting an eliminator in march so 1 of them will be the new no1 contender as the thai guy whi is number one just now recently won a wbc regional belt i believe so it looks like he is going down the wbc route.

after laryea i expect burns to fight his mandatory of fana the ibf champ

Everyone seems far 2 critical of Burns' defenses.
Give the guy a break, he's keeping active at least.

As people have said before me he can choose his fights until his mandatory so judge him on the mandatories if the voluntarys don't satisfy ye!

So Foster won't get offered a World title shot at Burns because he turned down a Commonwealth title shot a while ago?

How idiotic.

Dont understand the obsession with Foster getting a title shot. Hate it when a British fighter wins a strap and then everyone expects him to play pass the parcel with all the domestic guys who werent good enough to earn a shot themselves i.e. Foster.

Did Evensen deserve a title shot? Does Laryea deserve one?

I think Foster deserves a shot more than those fighters.
