Jerry Quarry vs Vitali Klitschko, Who wins?

Post by KOJOE90 »

Jerry the giant killer mixed it with the very best in the golden era of the Heavyweights the 1970's.

Could the sturdy chinned, firery counterpuncher that beat 'Big' Ron Lyle defeat the even bigger Vitali Klitschko?

Would Vitali be just too big, strong and hard hitting for Quarry? Or do you thing that Quarry would outlast and counterpunch the robaotic Vitali to take a points win maybe?

Any views fight fans?

First of all, I dont think much of vitali Klitchscho, hes another one of those big heavyweights with a lack of coordination. I think guys like bowe, lyle who were also big would all beat vitali. Vitali doesnt even have that much power.
in this fight, I would take vitali or quarry by close decision. Quarry has a lot more heart and can hit but he takes a lot of punces and I think this isnt a good mnatchup for quarry. Im interested for why u picked quarry against klitscho. Why not compara a guy like lyle or shavers?? QUarry just would take too many punches and he wouldnbt be able to push vitali around. ALso, Quarry doesnt posess a lot of boxing skills. I do however question vitalis heart because he did quit in the corner when well ahead on points against chris bryd. So i have no idea who would win this ifght i think it would go the distance unless quarry gets stopped on cuts.

i THINK WLADIMIR kLITHSHO IS THHE BETTER OF FIGHTERS AND AT LEAST SHOWS MUCH MORE POWER THAN VITALI. ITS ONLY BECAUSE HE WAS A GLASS JAW THAT HE DOESNT GET THE RECOGNITION.

The reasons ai picked Jerry versus Vitali were becuase I can't recall this matchup being talked about before on this forum. Also I thought the size difference would add another angle to the debate.

However I don't agree with your view that Quarry lacked Skill, when the volatile fighters mind was right he often showed some good Boxing skills he was a very good counterpunch when he chose to do so.

Also I don't think Quarry would try and push Vitali around I think (or hope) he would use his counterpunching abilities.

By the way Have you ever seen Quarry vs Lyle? To my mind Quarry at his very best and it shows how Quarry could deal with big Heavyweights who could jab and punch.

Yes I have. I think quarry probably would outpoint him, but it could be a boring fight since vitali's best weapon is defense and quarrys a good counter puncher. but quarry did cut alot as u probably already know but so does vitali but I think the fight would go the distance and quarry would outpoint vitlali.

Personally I think the current Vitali might be a smarter fighter than most people give him credit for, time will tell of course. I could see him keeping Quarry at arms length for most of the fight, using that big reach advantage and also using the big right to keep Jerry "honest" when he got in close for a dull-ish points victory. Maybe something like Lennox Lewis' approach to David Tua, poor entertainment but effective.

Lyle and Foster were both much bigger one punch hitters then Klitschko despite his size and Quarry took their best for dinner.

Quarry would give away the first few rounds but by the 4th his pace abd countering to the body and head would really wear Klitschko out, who tires after fighting guys who don't fight back, let alone guys who do. Vit has also never faced anyone with any real body punching ability whatsoever. I don't see Jerry knocking Klitscko out but he would sweep the last 7 rounds or so to win a comfortable decision.

Quarry on points, easily.

Quarry got nailed by Lyle, Shavers, Foster etc, no big deal. Klitschkos not a relentless animal like Frazier. Klitschko fights at a slow pace picking apart opponents who are usually in their late 30s.

Quarry could fight at a pace & go 12 or 15 long tough rds. Quarry pounds out a one sided 12 rd dec or even makes an exhausted Klit quit late.

You've obviously never seen Quarry fight.

You've obviously been very impressed watching Klitschko pick apart tired gut buckets in their late-30s (Sanders, Lewis, Donald, et al) & believe Klit could do the same to an all time legend in his prime who hung tough with some of the greatest fighters that ever lived.

Whatever you say samuel.

Vitali's 'combos' are so slow I doubt he could even land one on Quarry . . .nevermind that the guy can only land one-twos in any sort of rapid succession.
