Witter gets forgotten all over again then.

Post by tonyevs »

Brilliant result for Hatton.No doubt.

Don`t think it was that bigger upset, upset sure but how many people just on this forum predicted a Hatton victory, me for one and I`m almost always wrong

Witter I feel will just get forgotten about all over again, his result was good awhile back but Hattons was more hyped and an alltogether better reult..and it brings a major title :TU: not just the step closer

Poor Junior has to step it up even more next time to get even mentioned in the same breath as Hatton.

But where does Hattons victory place him in the list of great British victory`s?
I place it on par with Turpin and Robinson...and below Benn V McClellan and Honeyghan V Curry.

Kostya was past his best....stop crying because it is true :box: it was still a fantastic result just don`t spoil it by over hyping it...The Sun will do that tomorrow.
But Benn and Honeyghan fought younger and presumably more dangerous opponents.

Great result for Ricky, :TU: :TU:

I'd place it higher than Benn's victory over McClellan, Nigel was already established as a legitimate world-class fighter before that fight, and McClellan had looked fantastic but had yet to establish himself as No 1 in that division. He was younger and fresher than Tszyu of course, but had not just put in a decade at the top like Kostya has.

Although I don't blame him, in hindsight I wonder if Witter is thinking "if only I was a little more patient".

I honestly believe that if Frank still had Witter, that would be the next fight. I honestly believe that was the grand plan all along.

I wonder if Hatton vs Magee II might happen as a mark time defence in the future.

I can't think that Frank will expose his new Golden Goose to Eamonn Magee again, too high a risk for zero benefit. He seemed all set on Corrales last night, and he could probably offer Diego a whopping payday to come over to Manchester for it, plus he is another Showtime fighter. Warren is pretty open in his intention to get every conceivable advantage for Ricky and he would start that fight a big favourite I feel.

Chopping, whilst I personally still would like to see Magee vs Hatton II as I still think there is a little business there sorting out and I think it will be competitive. Surely most people will think that Hatton has improved 100% since the first match and Magee deteriorate due to the injury. Therefore, not making a big risk.

Not how I see but possibly how a matchmaker might.

Personally I'd like to see him in with Magee again as well, subsequent events have shown that Eamonn was probably should have been held in much higher regard generally. But where's the gain to Hatton, that's what Frank W will be wondering about the idea. I tell you what I would like to see - Magee v Witter, now that would produce a legitimate challenger to Hatton.

Whilst i wouldn't object to Hatton-Magee II i can't see it happening and am not sure if i would be excited by it, Magee hurt Hatton and caught him early on, after that the fight petered out into a less memorable spectacle. I doubt Hatton-Magee II will be made with so many big fights on the horizon.

Who the hell wants to see Hatton v Magee II?

Hatton has bigger fight to fry now, top 10 opponents all the way from here on in. I think Hatton v Corrales would be a great fight. Or I'd like to see him unify with Harris or Cotto.

Incidentally I think he'd demolish Cotto pretty quickly.

I only suggested it as a possible sanctionable mark time fight that would create a little buzz in the UK given their history. Only if the big guns are tied up and there is no mandatory for a bit.

There will be some easier (on paper) opponents that Hatton will face, Cotto faced Randall Bailey there should have been more complaints about that one - he didn't deserve that shot.

Like I said, only if the big fights are temporarily unavailable or maybe if there is another big SN geniune world title fight and he wants Hatton on the undercard to make it a PPV.

The Corrales fight would be a cracker for as long as Diego could stand the pressure.
Hatton would be a big big favourite after last nights fight which showed he can hold a shot.

I would favour Hatton over Witter also, Witter I feel would bottle it when his punches bounced off Hatton.
Witter is good on the offence but Hatton would really test his defence...and chin :-?

The Magee match is a massive step back, Magee would get slaughtered at this stage. As tough as Magee is the injury has robbed him of what progress he would have needed to have made in the meantime to keep on par with Ricky.

Corrales for a first defence :TU:
Gatti regardless of the outcome of his next contest :TU:
Witter, just to shut him up :TU:
Harris if they got a TV date to fill :TU:

Just not Cotto :( , much has been made of when he got caught last time, but Hatton has wobbled also and later showed us his chin is good.
Cotto has the style to up-end Hatton

I think Witter would actually be very dangerous for the first 4 to 5 rounds when he really loads up on his shots, in his last fight though he seemed to look drained by the mid way point and this is where Hatton would walk through him and stop Witter around 6 to 7 rounds.

Would be a fight I would want to see though.

I think the best option is surely Corrales after his amazing fight recently and the way they are both willing to go to war to win, would have potential to be an amazing fight.

I refuse to feel sorry for Witter, the guy has himself a Golden Boy Promotions contract now so his destiny is clearly in his own hands. If he beats people on Oscar's US cards and looks handy doing it then he will get a title shot soon enough.

That is how I see it. Let Witter make a name for himself as a genuine draw first, and it's not impossible, he isn't far off a shot himself now, in a year's time, all being well, the two men could both be belt holders.

I can see Hatton taking a routine defence, although I can see Hatton wanting to go in against a monster like Corralles in his next fight, Warren will probably quite rightly advise taking on someone a bit less of a threat, and taking some time off beforehand to recouperate.

It's so nice to have an real genuine elite fighter in the UK.

I'd be very disappointed if Hatton were not in a competitive match next time out. He's proved he belongs in top class, that's where he should be fighting from now on. Big name every fight.

It took a big effort from him to break down Tszyu but he hardly went to hell and back to do it. He doesn't need a year and 3 soft opponents before he takes on his next big challenge.

Witter won't get a shot because he isn't in the IBF top 15, although Ndou is at number 4 I think and I feel he may be chosen as an easy first defence.
Would be surprised if they take Corrales straight away and surprised if Warren ever puts Witter in with Hatton unless he wins another belt.

No-one's saying Witter will get a crack at Hatton, clearly he won't. But with the De La Hoya connection he can find another route to the top now.

Oscar has a tendency to match tough for his guys.

I re-read what I wrote about Witter and it came across harsh, not want I wanted.
I think he has great ability and can certainly hold a title.

The Corrales match is excellent for Hatton, made to measure in fact, great little tear-up in the making.

Just hope De La Hoya does a good job to keep Witter in contention
