Once again last night we witnessed fighters slipping on the canvas of the Boxing Ring.
Somebody is going to get injured because of this. Sometimes it's the fighters own boots but not always.
Surely it's not rocket science to buy a ring covering with a little bit of grip and to make any advertisments non-slip?
Any views?

I dont think its the canvas thats the problem but more the case of the fighter's choice of boot.
Most boxing boots today, especially British made have a rubber or man made sole which has a bit of grip, but i have seen American boots and mexican boots that have a flat leather sole.
Mike Goodhall makes the majority of canvas's in this country and the adverts on them are painted, so they shouldnt cause a problem.
just wonderered what would happen if a boxer during a fight asked the ref if he could change his footware because he was slipping and it could be a danger to his health, like in football where they change their studs.
water on the canvas can also cause a problem, but then again i have seen soaking canvas's in gymnasiums that neber cause a problem.

I remember some of a fight Sky showed a few years ago. I think it was Anthony Maynard Vs Alfred Kotey. Maynard started very well but kept on slipping, because he had new boots on. The other fella was fine. Maynards cornermen then got his trainers from the back and he boxed in those. I think Maynard ended up getting stopped in a fight he could of won.
At the time they said boxers with new boots should try them beforehand on the canvas. As the ring was probably set up since Friday, any of the boxers could have tried it out if they had any doubts.
