Richard towers
Ive watched abit of towers and I have to say ive been impressed with what ive seen,he's still raw but he's 6'8 and he's very light on his feet and has fast hands too,he also seems to have good power too.Whats everyone elses opinion?
Re: Richard towers
good interview with him in BM this month
Re: Richard towers
Although rather worryingly in relation to your optimism he seems to have been battered in sparring by just about every British heavy! I'd like to see him in a proper fight before making a judgement.veriton wrote:good interview with him in BM this month

Re: Richard towers
Yes he does. Although a lot of it I think is when he had very little experience, or against guys on another level to where he currently is. He's just admitting he had a lot to learn, which is better than being delusional and thinking he's already the finished article.

Re: Richard towers
well dont get me wrong,i dont think he's ready to fighting the elite yeah but i think the potential is there though, also you never know he could be one of those guys who doesnt spar very well but does it in the ring where it counts!Quite often you get guys who are the opposite!lolScottrf wrote:Yes he does. Despite Scott saying Richard said this, I can't remember it...and I wrote the f**king thing.lefty wrote:Did he say this in the interview as i havent read it?Scottrf wrote:Although rather worryingly in relation to your optimism he seems to have been battered in sparring by just about every British heavy! Could be a Glyn edit but I doubt it.
I'll have to double check...I've had a few glasses of claret since I did it. 8)

Pfft Ian, doubting my trustworthiness!
Re: Richard towers
He looked awful in the 3 fights i've seen him aswell. Let's be honest the only way he'll make money is if he becomes an opponent for tomdallas, price or fury...lefty wrote:about 3yid14 wrote:How many of his fights have you seen?lefty wrote:Ive watched abit of towers and I have to say ive been impressed with what ive seen,he's still raw but he's 6'8 and he's very light on his feet and has fast hands too,he also seems to have good power too.Whats everyone elses opinion?

Everyone starting out gets kicked in by just about everyone.
Re: Richard towers
Erm, i'm not sure where this comes re: Richard getting hammered in sparring - anyway, it's not correct.
I havent yet had the pleasure of reading Ian's piece on him but knowing how modest Richard is i wouldnt be surprised if he did make comments suggesting he'd had some tough spars.
I can say, though, as someone who has seen him spar Tyson Fury numerous times (they sparred again on Thurs, BTW) and having spoken to someone who saw him spar Dereck Chisora numerous times - Richard has conducted himself very well indeed in these meetings. There's no reason to think that he cant take on and beat these guys in meaningful fights in time to come.
Commenting on sparring sessions is always tricky but i can absolutely assure people that his sessions with Tyson are always extremely competitive and both guys have landed some heavy shots. I know Tyson's camp love bringing him over as not many people are good enough to stretch him out but they feel Tyson gets a lot from his spars with Rich.
With Chisora - Klitschko fight back hopefully Richie will be asked to help out again. I know Rich got a lot out of it last time and from what i hear, once again the sessions were very competitive.

Re: Richard towers
I have seen him fight a couple times and I thought he looked ok. My thoughts are similiar to lefty's. For such a huge man, he is surprisingly quick with his hands and his feet. When you factor in his great size, I think there is room for some modest success. On the downside, he does look a bit raw and I'm never too optimistic about someome making dramatic improvements at his age. I see he has another fight scheduled. He really needs to get his career rolling along.yid14 wrote:He looked awful in the 3 fights i've seen him aswell. Re: Richard towers
Once a notorious criminal, who was involved in the capture and torture of a man for 3 days. EEEkkk. DOn't mess with this lad haha.
Re: Richard towers
I can remember reading about it in the Doncaster Star and it weren't a laughing matter.
Re: Richard towers
Yep. I know it sounds daft, but I won't be sticking up for him based on his past/previous erm 'life'. I'm all for giving people a chance don't get me wrong boxing is great for doing that, but personally I can't bring myself to support someone who has taken part in the torture of another man.simon fox wrote:I can remember reading about it in the Doncaster Star and it weren't a laughing matter.

I'm really pleased that Towers has got on a better track; he's been punished and he has to get on with his life. Fair play to him; anyone can go down the wrong road; (kidnap and torture are nasty crimes though).

I thought that he was only involved in the kidnapping side of it though and didnt participate in the torture?Im sure ive read that.simon fox wrote:I'm really pleased that Towers has got on a better track; he's been punished and he has to get on with his life. So He Clumped a Bully shocking. Ive met the Kid, to me He comes over as a really nice Guy. Envirement makes people do things they regret, with Brendan He has found a better one. wish Him well

There was a bit more to it than clumping a bully.Scrap wrote:So He Clumped a Bully shocking. Ive met the Kid, to me He comes over as a really nice Guy. Envirement makes people do things they regret, with Brendan He has found a better one. wish Him well
Like I say I'm happy for Richard to do well; I've done things that are morally and legally wrong. I am friends with people who have done similar stuff. Minimising the wrong and harm done does no one any favours. I am genuinely pleased that Towers is living a more positive life.
