This is going to open a can of worns. They picking the team for the Pan-Am trials starting with the #1 if he can't go #2 will be asked and so on.
If you a boxer that just want to boxer at the Pan-Am trails and aren't ranked, sorry you're out of luck.

This is another way for Usa boxing to open its self up for more crap and show the great job they are doing. Keep dening these athletes their rights. That's 2 for USA

The Pan Am trials and the Oly Trials are being combined into one event known as the Olympic Trials. The winner of the Olympic Trials will go to the Pan Am Games. If the #1 isn't able to go, then the #2 from the Trials goes and on down the line. Everyone can enter their local GG tournament and have a shot by winning the local GG, going to the National GG and winning the NGG. The winners of the NGG then qualify for the Oly Trials. There are two other options for most boxers. They can enter their LBC's senior open tournament, advance to the regionals, then advance to the USA National Championships where all four semifinalists in each weight class qualify for the Olympic Trials. Finally, boxers can enter the last chance qualifier and if they win it they qualify for the Olympic Trials. All amateur open-class boxers will be given an opportunity to qualify for the Pan Am Games and Olympic Trials.

Exception is if a WSB boxer wins the individual championship. Then USAB will be denying boxers the opportunity to compete for the Pan Am Games and Olympics.

Dennis I not sure about this, call Joe Zanders and ask him. The training camp for the Pan-am starts in march 16 or 17 no boxer is getting the chance to compete in the Pam-am Trials unless they are picked, is not the winner of the olympic trials that goes . The Pan-am are being held in Mexico. Look it to it and get back to me, you not going to be too happy and if you need Joe Zanders number I'll give it to you.

I am going by the official selection procedure which was approved by USA Boxing and the USOC. I think you are getting things confused. The #1's from the 2010 USA Nat'l Chp go to the Pan Am qualifiers to attempt to place high enough to qualify the USA for that weight class at the 2011 Pan Am Games which will be held in the fall of 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico. If the USA qualifies for a weight class at one of the 3 Pan Am qualifying tournaments which are supposed to be held in March, April and May 2011, then the winner of the U.S. Olympic Team Box-Offs will be the boxer to actually compete in the 2011 Pan Am Games. For all of this, if the #1 can't go, then they go on down the line.

I hope this clears up any and all confusion.

It doesn't clear up anything for the women. No info on the selection procedure.
No date yet for the us nationals. No date for the womens golden gloves. Regionals postponed in Los Angeles area. WTF is going on, the olympics are next year.

the women should have a fair trial for the pan_ams especially the ones who won the pals because they went in there fighting for that spot in the pan am trials and was told that the pals were the qualifiers for it

Sorry Dennis im just giving you the info that was givin to me by Joe. Here's what I asked: can a boxer that isn't ranked have the chance to get in the Pan-am trials? His respond was No, its only for the top boxers, 2 if a boxer goes to the 2011 nationals and place in the ranking can they be allowed to go to the Pan-am trial? He said No the top guys were aready picked and that the training camp starts in March.. I don't know what to say but I hope you're right..as for me I guess I'll go back to Puerto Rico and try to make their Olympic team cause usaboxing is going more down hill every single day.

This is nothing new and one of those "the way it's always been" situations. Even if there were Pan Am Boxoffs, they would be between the 4 top ranked in each weight class.

USA Boxing is excited to begin planning the first of many international events in 2011. A full delegation consisting of 10 male athletes and three female athletes, along with other team personnel will travel to the first Pan American Games Qualifier, March 24-30. The event location has yet to be announced to USA Boxing. Prior to departing for the qualifying event, all athletes and personnel will travel to the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center for a five-day training camp, March 17-22.

Athletes include: Louie Byrd, John Franklin, Joseph Diaz, Jr., Eric Flores, Errol Spence, Luis Arias, Jeff Spencer, Steve Geffrard, Cam Thompson, Marlen Esparza, Queen Underwood, and Tiffanie Hearn. Team USA will be led by team manager, Gary Pliner, and coaching staff, Joe Zanders, Barry Hunter, Mike Stafford and Gloria Peek. Each athlete will compete in hopes of qualifying by name, for the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, in October.

USA Boxing will also be sending three female athletes, representing the three Olympic weight divisions, to Gdansk, Poland for a training camp, March 29-April 4. This training

camp will allow our athletes to become acclimated with the time difference, weather, and training atmosphere in Poland, prior to competing in the 2011 Feliks Stamm Tournament.

The Feliks Stamm Tournament will take place in Warsaw, Poland, April 5-9, with Tyreishia Douglas, Patricia Manuel and Alyssa DeFazio representing the United States. Bruce Kawano and Clara Savannah will coach the squad and be accompanied by physician, Dr. Ruben Tenorio, and one AIBA official. This tournament will give our U.S. athletes the opportunity to compete with Europe’s premier female athletes and will be another important milestone for U.S. women’s boxing.

Happy New Year

Message from USA Boxing Executive Director Anthony Bartkowski:

As you may have heard, USA Boxing has been ordered to conduct a box-off event for the 2011 Pan American Games in both men’s and women’s boxing. This decision was made by the arbitrator in the Caroline Barry v USA Boxing case (Arbitration No. 77 190 E 00049 11 JENF), on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. The final decision by the American Arbitration Association is attached for your review.

We wanted to bring this to your attention. The decision states that the January 11, 2011 Pan American Games Selection Procedures are null and void. Because of this ruling, USA Boxing must conduct a box-off to select the athletes who will compete at the 2011 Pan American Games Qualifying Event (March 24-30) and the two other 2011 Pan American Games Qualifying Events to be held in April and June. The winner of this box-off will be the representative at all 2011 Pan American Games Qualifying Events, as well as the 2011 Pan American Games, if the athlete qualifies at one of the three qualifying events.

The box-off will be for the 13 Olympic weight categories (10 men’s weight classes and 3 women’s weight classes) to select the athletes that will compete in the 2011 Pan American Qualifying Tournaments.

The new 2011 Pan American Games Selection Procedures for men’s and women’s boxing will be sent to you as soon as the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Team Selection Working Group approves these procedures.

We wanted you to be aware of this late change. USA Boxing is tentatively planning on this box-off competition from March 16-20 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. More details on this event will be forthcoming in the next 24 hours.

The format of the 2011 Pan American Games Box-Offs will be a single elimination event with 8 boxers per weight class. Below is the list of other athletes that will be invited to the box-off:

2010 USA Boxing National Championships – Top 4 athletes
2010 Police Athletic League (PAL) National Championships – Top 2 athletes
2011 Armed Forces Championships – Top 1 athlete
At-Large Application – At least 1 slot per weight class

Following the 2011 Pan American Team Box-Offs, the champions will remain at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for a brief training camp prior to departing for the first Pan American Qualifier in Cumana, Venezuela March 24-30, 2011.

All event information and new selection procedures will be posted online and distributed once approved. Thank you for your cooperation and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting me at (719) 866-2301 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Anthony Bartkowski

There is going to be very common I bet over the next year to see things go to arbitration. I think they should give at-large berths to all Golden Gloves participants who quality for this Pan Am box off. We, like many other franchises, are in the middle of our tournament so many will not be able to attend. If we want to get our best boxers the best competition I think it's better for them to face each other again at the Pan Am Qualifier and potential compete in the Pan Am games vs. boxing in local and regional Golden Gloves.

My only concern with this idea is that all the franchises, I'm not sure they have enough at-large slots that they would need. I'm sure someone here can do the math. :D
