I have sympathy for both arguments here. I've probably been to about 15 live shows and only at one of them have I seen a serious kick off and that was at the Froch v Dodson fight in Nottingham in 2006. On that occasion the security was very poor and a couple of guys took a serious beating.

The promoter is more than aware of potential trouble and they try their best to inform the bigger venues of potential hotspots.

Sometimes we do have a habit on boxrec of scaremongering and this thread is I feel in my opinion one of those circumstances.

Yes there are some unsavoury incidents at events but you can get them anywhere where there are large public gatherings where people are intent on causing trouble.

Overall I think the promoters in this country do an excellent job in issuing warnings to the security to do their jobs - maybe the venue should employ appropriate people instead of some fat arsed **** with big tits with zits all over her face who cant do f*ck all - or some old age pensioner who is working but has just been issued their zimmer frame.
I think you're wrong about this and that i'm far from being alarmist. This is something that i've noticed increasing a lot in the last 12 months and the events i've listed in the OP were not just little bits of trouble, these were large groups of people ruining the night and being allowed to run about for a period of 10-15 minutes fighting, not throwing stuff and being loud. A lot of people were leaving that scene with more crimson showing than Dodson after his second fight!

I also think that it's very rare that people will attend sporting events in this country and see unsavoury scenes in the ground. You say people on here are being alarmist but if boxing is to go mainstream again then things like this won't help and is something that needs to be sorted. Simply saying they're doing a good job isn't the right answer

Disagree.

boxing events do seem a hotbed or trouble, much much more so than any other type of event I've been too. The reason being, that boxing attracts drunken dickheads with no morals who like to get into fights, and often the venue fails to control them.

General lack of crowd control and boxing is an issue, too- letting people wander around all the fornicating time, even during the event etc.

This is a problem that needs addressing sooner rather than later- or at some point someone is sure to sue.

Although not making any excuses for it, the Munroe fight was asking for trouble putting a popular Leicester fighter on the top of the bill in Coventry on St George's Day which has been a very popular day on the piss for our 'Lads' for a few years now!

What needs to happen is a notable prosecution. At the Khan v Kotelnik fight, some animal punched a woman . There should have been an immediate police responce, and punisment to fit the crime.

With modern security cameras etc, and many witnesses, this would have been very possible.

What really worries me is just how easily people seem to get away with it.

I think you're bang on with this and it could be the biggest problem promoters will have if they let it run wild. Promoters & the venues have a duty of care and in todays 'No Win, No Fee' society, it won't be long before someone tries their luck. If it works then a lot of claims could go in

I wondered at the Magnificent 7 how such a large number of Welsh supporters got seats together? How was that arranged? With a big group of Birmingham fans chanting 'sheep sh*ggers', that was only a matter of time and it should have been anticipated.

They need proper security teams, not stewards who are more like ushers and seem unprepared for these sorts of situations. The time taken for most of them to get to the scene was unacceptable, not that they seemed capable of breaking it up when they got there. With one of the fights near a balcony, I was only glad noone went over, it could have been the end of the show. That lad was out harder than Enzo.

Agree on the prosecution, although I have no idea what happened afterwards, I remember the announcer saying 'That t**t in the green needs to be arrested' or something similar and getting a large cheer.

There's just no need for it and I can understand why people wouldn't want to take kids. It's not that common, but is too common, and in a whole different league to football. You get almost no trouble inside football stadiums, or around the immediate area.

What apart from the Riot police ringing the pitch, and the pre-match to and froing on the car park?

Without being there I think what sounds more important is that it was stopped before anything happened, and security were properly prepared.

I heard security where getting a kicking.

Then Chisora whipped his hoody off and waded in to help them out which was good of him, as there were plenty of regular folk trapped amongst the aggro.
Haye wanted to help but couldn't agree terms.

Nottingham Arena is a bit trouble some lately , not helped though when people go for a pint in that perimieter corridor/walkway , everyone else had the same idea , you cant move and tempers get frayed , security can not physically get to the trouble as its too packed , i do think that those walkways need to be widened to a certain size depending upon venue capacity , i have worried a few times of the potential for a hillsborough type tragedy to occur

Of course the real reason there is so much trouble at boxing is the fact women now go out to work,

I think there needs to be a police presence at Boxing shows, also not sure if there's any thing you can do about it, but the average boxing show starts at 6pm and usually goes on until 11-12pm. Thats alot of time to get pissed at the venue!!!!!

I think some thing needs to be done, as Boxing is hard enough to sell as it is in this country as it is, and this certainly doesn't help...

Thing is though the vast amount of boxing cards in this country tend to take place on a friday/saturday night when the police already have more pressing concerns. Not sure they'd have the resources, especially these days.

Maybe promoters should be made to pay for a police presence at high risk big shows as football clubs are made to do for matches?

Plenty of OB would lap up the over time!

I think it would definitely help but would it mean more people than usual solely turning up just for the main event thus ruining the atmosphere and providing less exposure for the boxers on the under card?

personally i stay for the whole thing, cant understand people who only come for one fight, sometimes not even the main event. and tbh the people that do that are quite often the nobhead contingent, often they are fervent supporters of only one fighter rather than fans of boxing in general.

I cant remember there being any bother there. And I was there the whole night. There was a bit of "banter" between the Cleverly fans and Mitchell fans usual stuff about where to put sheep and chariots but no punches thrown

The trouble at that one was where the bars were, basically underneath where everyone was sat.

I think banning the booze would be a short term solution but as someone said the nob'eads would just get tanked up before and still cause trouble at the same point as they would have.

As someone else mentioned earlier on, it seems people are not accountable for anything they do at the boxing. All the stewards want to do is get them out, the police haven't seen anything as they don't go in and then they carry on into the night no doubt causing more grief for pc plod elsewhere
