Re: Factual error (Colin Hart) in boxing column in Sun online
Ali-Foreman was the perfect fight and its ending had no controversy, no what ifs. It was a systematic dismantling rounded off by a humiliating knockout. Even when George was landing he was falling into a trap, merely hastening his own demise. A great artist knows when his painting is finished - to add another brush stroke would be to ruin it. The greatest films in history rarely have sequels. I can't think of any more metaphors for now.

Mate, I don't know why you are defending him - Bunce thinks you are a tosser as well.veriton wrote:were you upset when you found out father christmas wasnt real?chinny wrote:I've arrived at this thread late.
I suspect Bunce attacked Captain Hook assuming he was a random 'sometime' poster rather than a very knowledgable fan, well liked and a 'proper' writer. Not that it would have been an excuse if he were not. Bunce that was classless. You've embarassed yourself and gone down in my estimation big time in the absence of an apology.
Just so you know I like a lot of others on here listen to your radio slots, read your BM column, buy your books (Watson and the Fixer anyhow) and attended one of those stand up shows. I also put a fair bit of time and effort into writing to ESPN to campaign for them to pick up Andy, yourself and the ex Setanta boxing team. Nice for Captain Hook (and by extension all of us) to be abused in return.

foreman wanted no part of lewis at that stage of his career and is on record saying so.DavidPayne wrote:Chris Byrd, Riddick Bowe and George Foreman. And he left David Tua hanging as long as could. Lewis' should alsohave fought Ruiz not Grant. I'm feeling contrary today.Captain Hook wrote:Ali ducked Foreman when? After the Rumble in the Jungle I presume?Buncey wrote:Ali ducked Foreman - Frazier met two bums in easy defences after beating Ali - Lewis did NOT fight all comers...jesus, where are you getting your history from? Avoiding and waiting is a time-dishonoured traditions, trust me.
The present mob will have light legacies but please don't try and re-write history to prove a point.
Adios.
Aaah yes, Muhammad Ali, who forever will be known as a man who ducked a challenge!
And name a fighter from the 19990s/2000s in the heavyweight division that Lennox Lewis should have fought and didn't? Bowe is the only one I can think of, and that was Bowe's doing. Ike? Well, he went to prison before we got to see how far he could go.
We know it's a time honoured tradition, the argument is that it happens a lot more now and there are fewer decent heavyweights about.

MEN Arena. Harrison v Brodie
You were hanging around the train station. Would only drink cider. I yearned for home and bought OliverFennell with me for support.
Oliver and I go way back, we rolled socks together at Rhyl Be Wise in the nineties. Drank at Rosie O'Grady's.
We all felt a great deal of pain the moment Brodie was stopped.
It's been a rollercoaster ride Tel, a rollercoaster ride...
I'm hurt that Buncey hasn't sent me a bunch of flowers yet. Do you suppose he will?

It'll probably be a wreath :)

To an extent I don't care what Bunce says on his radio show or Indie pieces. It offends me greatly though when he comes on here, somewhere as others remind us he only visits to plug his shows (which is fine) and tells those who contribute an awful lot more than he does to eff off. Sheer arrogance with ignorance, and a real shame.
Re: Factual error (Colin Hart) in boxing column in Sun online
Personally i thought captain hook was making some thoughtful well communicated points....i think the fact he rather made bunces opinion ali avoided foreman look foolish caused steven to foam at the mouth and show his true selfish face to all of us.....either that or he came on here arseholed out of his head.......
Either way i take the well informed opinion of a hook, carlos wigan, hagler 2002 over colin farts opinions any day........
I used to think foreman was avoided by ali after the rumble in the jungle but when u add it all up.....foremans long inactivity , his circus 5 bums in one night routine, his life and death with lyle, than the loss to young just as ali was facing norton and shavers.....and it all adds up to being a non credible accusation to accuse ali who kayoed foreman, of avoiding foreman..............as for bunce....ive long forgiven him stuff just for his max kellerman putdowns.....and id like to think he'll come on here
and tell us he was constipated when he launched his vicious unprovoked attack on hook
i do seem to recall during the bring back bunce campaign loads of people said he was arrogant on the guest book......i dont know i hadnt seen it until now........i still think he was arseholed and didnt know what he said the day after

Re: Factual error (Colin Hart) in boxing column in Sun online
I do find the thing kind of sad. I remember Bunce's article in BM way back when, when we were called (not Boxrec, but Internet forums in general) as Anoraks - and it basically slagged forums off.
When Setanta was in full swing and he using and reading the forums, I thought his perspective had changed - oh he would give us individual shout outs and I actually thought he had developed a respect for the internet world.... It was a good ratings ploy though also, people tuning into the "filler" sections to see if we would get a call out.... If we are being truthful, before the callouts and the forum reading and contributing - Steve's punditary would get "mixed" reception at best on the various forums. More and more people started champion Steve as having "boxing at heart" (which he has) and being the people's pundit after coming on here and ESB etc, asking for contributions.
Quite ironic though thinking back to that original article on anoraks, how it is apparently the anorak being factually wrong, according to Steve, that got him so mad. Whats the definition of anorak again?

Morning ladies,
This seems to have upset a few tender little hearts. Thanks for keeping me employed, thanks for giving me a chance...what utter garbage!
People pull up the old 'anorak' quote...they never use the zillion times that I've plugged this site and the other sites on national radio, local radio, TV and in papers. No, it's always the 'anorak' nanny. It is often like being stuck in a Monty Python sketch.
Adios until I get back here on Thursday to plug the show!

No, not saying that. Norton and Frasier fights were close enough to warrant rematches. There was nothing close about Ali-Foreman. It's hard for me to think of a more total and humiliating dismantling. He took everything away from Big George that night.DavidPayne wrote:You saying Ali always knew when to leave it be?nobby_nobbins wrote:Ali-Foreman was the perfect fight and its ending had no controversy, no what ifs. Come on Steve - you need us here on boxrec! That is why you will be back on Thursday. You seem to have a short memory as well, remember the time you wanted us all to write to Mariana Hyde who wrote that hatchet job on you? Do you remember the outcome of that?Buncey wrote:Morning ladies,

Anyway, it seems that that I was the catalyst of all this by saying you will Colin Hart in 20 years time, it was ONLY A JOKE Steve! I was having a laugh. Sorry about that Steve. :(
NB: 20 years time - who will be around? Who'd had thought we would have seen the back of Garry fornicating Newbon - he seemed destined to be around forever - so don't count your chickens Steve - I should have said 'Steve Bunce will be the new Colin Hart - if he is lucky to be around on the telly in 20 years from now'

Bunce has ignored 99% of the posts and the fact he's been exposed.
He says he plugs this site on TV, radio and in newspapers and then accuses Boxrec (or us lot) of "believing its own hype"
A contradiction? Short-term memory loss? Nah, just typical Bunce.
Boxing is in enough of a shit state, and the divide between the sport and its fans (because of the promoters, no TV, ticket prices, PPV) is wider than ever.
The last thing it needs is the pundits and writers acting like they're bigger than the man on the street as well.
There are no tender little hearts here Steve, but you have alienated, patronised and, to be blunt, pissed off a lot of people who probably won't give you or your shows their valuable time any more.

This isn't a witch hunt mate, just picking up Mr B on a few points....
I'd say it's more the one where his mum shouts:
"Buncey's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy"

They should get some new blood writing that column
He never would accept lennox lewis and during the lewis fight against biggs ( i think ) he described lewis as not being a puncher
Yeah it was during the Biggs fight he came out with that truly ridiculous comment.....Hart is patronising, arrogant, irritating and actually seems to dislike boxing and boxers. His delivery is sour faced and condecending. Why he still gets work is beyond me.
When i see his face sitting amongst the SKY panel for a big fight i wince. And his articles in the SUN do nothing for boxing. They bore me as a hardcore boxing follower, so goodness only knows what effect they'd have on a casual sports fan. No doubt they just skip straight over his mumblings. The SUN could maybe attract a few fans to the sport if they had some genuinely interesting articles from someone worth reading. But no doubt they'll just stick with Hart as long as he keeps churning stuff out.
I could tolerate Hart and i wouldn't be so critical of him, if he just seemed enthused and happy to be doing what he's doing, which is a dream job for many of us here. But he's so jaded and miserable its tough to tolerate. Still he won't give a sh*t he's not cared for by many folk on boxrec, so long as he keeps getting paid he'll keep miserably taking the paycheques.
And his hair is another thing.......either a wig or even weirder it just resembles one.

Good post....
Someone like Flexen or one of the internet writers maybe, someone under the age of 70 with a pulse would be good, someone who could write about the little-known domestic fighters and give them some much-deserved publicity, rather than the same drivel and purely focusing on the past or Pacquiao...
