Main Event....V.I.P
Re: Main Event....V.I.P
Liverpool takes on Manchester when John Watson and Anthony Crolla square up for the vacant British lightweight title in Liverpool on February 12.
Watson, a former ABA champion from Huyton in Liverpool, challenged for the same title held by nuggety Welshman Gavin Rees last year in Newport and put up a terrific show before the vastly more experienced Rees prevailed in the 11th round. Rees then relinquished to concentrate on a pending European title shot, so in come Watson and Crolla, two young, ambitious pressure fighters who are likely to give everything for the right to raise the magnificent Lonsdale Belt.
Watson really busted up Rees in the middle rounds of their quite stirring encounter two months ago and will have gained from the whole championship experience at a still improving 13-1 (5). Home advantage is a big advantage for the Scouser against Crolla because it looks desperately close on paper. "Million dollar" Crolla has won his last six contests since he was outscored by Gary Sykes in a thrilling 10-rounder in Stoke in May 2009 and is one of the most improved fighters in the country at 19-2 (7), stopping big Manchester rivals Michael Brodie and Andy Morris to earn his shot, although he can make super-featherweight and might be a tad small at lightweight, particularly as Watson boils down.
Nevertheless, Crolla, the son of ex-pro Wayne, will pile into the assured, punch-picking Watson, who is likely to stand his ground and counterpunch as it develops into a fierce battle of wills. The winner? I lean towards the naturally bigger Watson, largely because he is at home.

Re: Main Event....V.I.P
what a strange matchup.
i thought Crolla would be concentrating on getting the british title off Sykes in a mouthwatering rematch.
I also wasn't aware that Crolla was notably suffering to get to 130.
whatever, a good little fight. I have to lean towards the (presumably) bigger Watson. there should be some good bodypunching in this one.
Matt i could quite fancy this, i'll check out the rest of the card and make a decision closer to the date?
