Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I was reading yeaterday that Enzo is due to have talks with Frank about his career.
Surely he has to retire though, I can't see where he has left to go as a fighter.

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
If he doesn't go he could end up hurt, or worse. It's sad because he seems to need to 'prove' himself, even though he's past it confidence-wise, and perhaps ability-wise. Enzo Macc is a nice dude, but simply the most weak-minded and delusional fighter in the last 10 years to win a world title.
And if I hear "I made a mistake" once more, I'll come to his house and shave that silly arsed beard off.

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Of course I'd love to see Enzo retire but I still think he could clean up domestically but whether he wants to go back to that level Is another thing
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Enzo isnt retiring he is makeing the trip down the light heavy and is around 13 3 at the min an hasn't really tryed dieting hard! As for him being weak minded that's bullshit have a bit more respect
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I usually like your opinion, but I think your wrong. If Enzo doesn't knock you out then he's ripe for the KO - he loses concentration, like against Frenel, like against Afolabi. Fights he was winning up until he "made a mistake" and walked onto shots. He did it against Swaby, too, IMO.terrdilk wrote:Enzo isnt retiring he is makeing the trip down the light heavy and is around 13 3 at the min an hasn't really tryed dieting hard! I think he still has something to offer on a domestic level...
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
It's a long jump from Cruiser to Light Heavy. Might be interesting but I'd rather see him retire. He seems a decent guy and it was horrible being there for his last knockout, the referee should never have let him back out. Sounds like he might have something to do after retirement too with Frank.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Chinny as they come but always entertaining. I think there are fights for him at domestic level, but I wouldn't let him anywhere near a top euro prospect like Frenkel ever again or it could be very bad news. He should really retire, he seems to gas out in fights in the middle rounds and that seems to have caused a few of his KO losses.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Fair enough, mate, and if he's your mate then you're going to defend him - rightly so. Like I said, he seems like an ace guy, but I do think he looks back on things delusionally. The defeat to Haye and the subsequent comments that followed made me think like that. And I really believe that if you get through the first few rounds against him then he'll fall apart. The move down puts things in a new light, if, and I mean if, he makes the weight okay. It'll be interesting to see how he does, but he needs to be held back for a bit. His self-confidence is his worst enemy, IMO. Take for example, taking on Lebadev instead of a gimme after the Ola KO - I believe he went against Frankie boy's judgement there? Anyways, I think he should retire, because these KO defeats are getting worse, and he seems to the type to want to jump into a dangerous fight just to prove himself. That could end very badly for him.terrdilk wrote:Ok fair does just a close friend! To be honest I've havent met anyone with more self confidence an belief in my life! But hey ho, that's just my opinion, not gospel.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
May be the move down to Light Heavy will give him a new mindset, as let's be honest those 4 brutal knockouts in the last 3 years must of affected him mentally.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
He'd have to boil down to the bone to make light heavyweight at this stage of his career and he is very tall and has a fairly broad frame.
That said, if he could do it he could do better there than a cruiser where his punch resistence seems to have completely gone. Obviously there would be the worry about how his chin would cope with the weight draining process but the guys down there wouldn't hit anywhere near as hard. In addition, you'd have to imagine Enzo would be a huge puncher at the weight given his ko record at cruiser.

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
It is a big jump if your a full blown cruiser mate but he weighed 13 10 or 11 his last fight for the weighin an only put a pound on come fight nite mate so when u look at it that way it's only a stone an abit to take off which isn't alotScottrf wrote:It's a long jump from Cruiser to Light Heavy. Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
If I'm honest I think this ends badly - I'd have rather seen a move down in weight a lot earlier in his career.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I don't think he sounded delusional against Haye; not enough happened for him to be outclassed, he did just make a mistake. There's only so many times you can say the same thing though, and he does leave his chin out to dry. It's been very exposed in a few of his losses and even if if wasn't chinny he gets hit with shots which would hurt anyone.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I am sick of hearing this, to be honest, pal. Macc's only mistake was getting in the ring with Haye at all. In that fight Enzo did what he always do in fights - it was that Haye was good enough to exploit it earlier. Falling back, with your hands down and chin up and are cardinal sin - a sin Enzo repeats a lot in fights.Scottrf wrote:I don't think he sounded delusional against Haye; not enough happened for him to be outclassed, he did just make a mistake. Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I'm always surprised when people expect boxers to come out a say "they were much better than me, I was outclassed and out of my league". He's got to think he made mistakes which he can rectify otherwise what's the point?
I'm not sure why some people take offence to Enzo's self confidence? Even if they don't agree he can go any further. He must look back on the Braithwaite fight and think he can replicate that performance (not that it would have made much difference in some of his losses imo)

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I have to agree with Dioufy on this one. I was at that fight and Maccarinelli got caught with 2 huge shots prior to the punch that had him sagging on the ropes before Haye moved in for the kill and just looked totally petrified from the moment he walked into the ring until he was tko'd.Dioufy wrote:I am sick of hearing this, to be honest, pal. Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Your sick of hearing the same point you made? I said he made a mistake, but one he has repeated a lot, and got knocked out. Haye is in a different league, but he finished it in one combination after a mistake, which is what Enzo said.Dioufy wrote:I am sick of hearing this, to be honest, pal. I'm not saying he would win another time just that it happened after one mistake rather than him being outclassed.

ALl that happened in that fight was a massive difference in class, speed and power. Enzo was out of his depth and just looked like a lamb to the slaughter.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Enzo was being constructive with the truth by saying he made a mistake. Yes, he left his chin out for the shot that had him against the ropes but he was caught with 2 other big shots in that round and 1 in a cagey first round. A mistake is not being caught time and time again and eventually wilting. A mistake is being caught flush with one shot which totally changes a fight around. Eg: Graham in the Julian Jackson fight and Enzo himself in the Frenkel fight.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Enzo got caught a lot more in the Frenkel fight than the Haye fight. Hardly anything of note landed prior to the Haye KO.
I've said it is something he is prone to, but it's not delusional to say that's why he lost the fight. I think the same thing would happen again though.

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Haye v Harrison reminded me of Haye v Mac. Mac threw nothing of note and as said above backed off with hands down & chin up. He was never world class. He always looked like he could be in better shape and it surprises me that he is now aiming for light heavy at this advanced stage of his career.
Is he being groomed as a scalp for Bomber?

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I thought he was controlling the Frenkel fight until that huge hook which practically knocked him out cold. During the fight I was actually thinking how average Frenkel looked.
You should watch the 2nd round of Haye v Enzo again if you don't think anything of note landed prior to the knock out. He got caught with two absolutely massive shots prior to the punch that had him over.
