Belated happy birthday, Rick. And congrats on the new "God granddaughter."

I got to spend the weekend with my granddaughter! I hadn't seen her for several weeks, and I was amazed how much she'd grown and changed.

Update on Austin Trout and Camp " No Doubt:"

By Louie Burke

Today, Monday, Jan. 31st will be our last day of camp “No Doubt’ in Ruidoso, NM. The weather has been extremely cooperative here in the high country, despite some chilly mornings, which we expected to encounter and prepared for. Austin’s training regime has been intense and very productive, with the help of “Moose’ Gomez, Joaquin Zamora, David Ordirica, George Romero and Ruidoso Downs’ First Baptist Church, where the gym is located.

Austin’s will be tapering off the intensity of his workouts and go into maintenance mode, we’ll also be concentrating on strategy for the fight . He’s in tremendous condition and will work at a level to maintain his conditioning and sharpness, while resting his body and allowing it time to recover, for the big night. After his run today, we’ll be headed down the mountain to ‘Cruces. Where we’ll get in a evening workout. Tuesday at noon, we’ll be headed off to the airport after a morning run and expect to have a light “shake-out” after we’ve arrived and have gotten settled in Guadalajara.

The people of Ruidoso, have been extremely helpful, with a special shout-outs going to Optometric Physician, Dr Anatole Gutowski and the West Winds Lodge and Condos. We also want to thank boxing expert and writer, Austin Kileen, who offered his house in Albuquerque for us to stay in and train at.

Again, thank you all for the support you’ve given us.

Facebook . . .

Somebody hacked my facebook page and sent offers for a free I-Pad as if it were from me.
Anybody who opens this false e-mail will end up with a virus. Don't open.

As for the new Classic American West Coast Boxing facebook page, I'm sorry but I will not participate.
This was my choice before discovering the virus situation.
I'm too busy for Facebook involvment, hence my never posting any photos.
I don't like receiving all the notifications, I get enough relating to this thread.
This Forum is enough for me. When my Facebook page is restored, I will remove myself from the CAWCB page.
It does not work for me.
I will continue to maintain a Facebook page, as it's a great way to connect, but participation is another issue.

No disrespect to anyone, but I kind of like our old ''club'' better, I am not very good with computers and I have a tough time finding my way around, I just am more comfortable on here, I will look on facebook from time to time, but I will stay mostly on boxrec, also I like the ''privacy'' on here better.

Liverpool takes on Manchester when John Watson and Anthony Crolla square up for the vacant British lightweight title in Liverpool on February 12.
Watson, a former ABA champion from Huyton in Liverpool, challenged for the same title held by nuggety Welshman Gavin Rees last year in Newport and put up a terrific show before the vastly more experienced Rees prevailed in the 11th round. Rees then relinquished to concentrate on a pending European title shot, so in come Watson and Crolla, two young, ambitious pressure fighters who are likely to give everything for the right to raise the magnificent Lonsdale Belt.
Watson really busted up Rees in the middle rounds of their quite stirring encounter two months ago and will have gained from the whole championship experience at a still improving 13-1 (5). Home advantage is a big advantage for the Scouser against Crolla because it looks desperately close on paper. "Million dollar" Crolla has won his last six contests since he was outscored by Gary Sykes in a thrilling 10-rounder in Stoke in May 2009 and is one of the most improved fighters in the country at 19-2 (7), stopping big Manchester rivals Michael Brodie and Andy Morris to earn his shot, although he can make super-featherweight and might be a tad small at lightweight, particularly as Watson boils down.
Nevertheless, Crolla, the son of ex-pro Wayne, will pile into the assured, punch-picking Watson, who is likely to stand his ground and counterpunch as it develops into a fierce battle of wills. The winner? I lean towards the naturally bigger Watson, largely because he is at home.

Good morning Frank, Paul & Bennie!
Nothing wrong with Facebook, it's just not for me.
Frank, you share nothing but good stuff, lots of great photos, stories, etc. Good shit!
But I'm like Paul, not computor literate, I know just enough to communicate here and write my stories.
Hope you are feeling better, Frank. Just finished my coffee, it's 5:02 and I gotta go.

As you might have notice, I do not maintain or use Facebook. A few years back a couple of young family members talked me into using Facebook. I did for about 6 months posting just a few items on the history of my father (like here),when I started hearing from a friend of mine
in Florida who was into boxing, that someone in the gym he was in, was claiming to be the brother of me "Charlie Norkus Jr",and that his father was the boxer "Charley Norkus".
My friend talked to him and said that he said he was indeed the son of my father. My friend later called me and said "I didnt know you had a brother down here in Florida ?" and he was serious.Of course I was stunned (I am an only child).
His name was _____ Norkus .He was in his mid-40's. A private investigator hired by me,found out that he was a legitimate "Norkus" (last name) but was absolutely no relations to me or my family. There was a Norkus back in the 1800's with the same first name the guy had,but he had no children.
All his claims he got from Facebook information that i was posting(I never accepted him or did he ever ask to be a "friend"),and thought that he could be of Norkus Boxing fame.
My family has dealt with things like this in the past, way before PC's were the norm and they were dealt with no harm done.I since found it was of no necessary need to be " out there" in the cyber world and just use various chat rooms like this where it is pretty much trusted.
The fellow down in Florida- well lets just say he had a talking to by some close friends and he ceased and desisted his actions and claims. When he found out that a boxer had the same last name as his,it turned out that he wanted to write my fathers story (book) and that he thought he could get away with writing it as "his son" thinking no one would catch his claim to get the book published. He is not writing a book.
I am off Facebook, but was on at one time 3-4 years ago.Cyberspace can be a very dangerous thing,be careful what you post-I dont think I have to tell you guys that.

In the boxers of the past forum somebody posted, The greatest Chicano fighter of all time, only one person replied so far, his answer was Oscar De la hoya, if he would have said who is the most popular Chicano fighter of all time, then the answer, no doubt would have been Oscar, but he said The best, and according to many knowledgeable old timers that I have read about, said Manuel Ortiz was the greatest Chicano fighter, any thoughts on this subject ? .

"The Playboy Lounge"
La Puente, Ca.

Circa 1983, I walked into the Playboy Lounge, and as I walked in I spotted my cousin Henry and His friend Rudy sitting at the bar, now Henry and Rudy are two short guys, more like glorified midgets, both are about 4'11, Henry might be about half inch taller than Rudy, I used to kid Henry all the time about liking to hang with Rudy because Rudy was the only one shorter then him. I walked upped to the two of them and order some beers for the three of us, as we are talking and drinking our beers I notice some ladies sitting on a table in the back of the lounge, soon this big woman walked up to us, she greeted Henry and Rudy, who she knew, after saying hello, she asked Henry:, " and who is this?", meaning me, after Henry introduced us; she asked me: "wanna dance?", now I stand 5'8 and at that time weighted about 145 lbs., she stood at least 6 feet if not an inch more and carried at least 250 pounds, I gracefully decline, at that Rudy jumped of his stool and said: "I'll dance", as we are watching them dance I started laughing, Henry asked me: "Cuz, what are you laughing at?", "look at Rudy dancing with that broad, he looks like a flea on a big dog", I said, Henry starts  , after finishing their dance Rudy and big girl walked back to us, big girl asked Henry: " what were you guys laughing at?', Henry: "we were just laughing at a joke", at that big girl said to Henry: "you know what I'm going to do to your cousin here?, first I'm to going beat the shit out off him, then I'm going to fu*k him to death", I told her: "for sure you can beat the shit out off me, but you're not going out fu*k me, she turned around and went back to her girlfriends.....

Excuse the salty language, but that the way it went down....

I am off Facebook, but was on at one time 3-4 years ago.Cyberspace can be a very dangerous thing,be careful what you post-I dont think I have to tell you guys that.
There was a female boxer a few years back who claimed to be Jim Jeffries' granddaughter or great-granddaughter. Problem is: Jim Jeffries had no biological children and his adopted daughter's son never used the Jeffries name. It disgusts me when people who try to capitalize on somebody else's fame. Not only that, it's illegal if you profit by doing it.

Now, that said, I'll admit that my ring name as an amateur was "Sugar Ray." But I don't believe that anybody who ever saw my pasty white Scandanavian skin ever thought I was trying to pass myself off as the relative for the original Sugar Ray.

Guys, we are getting :bag: hammered :bag: in Missouri by the weather. I'm in Monett where we have six inches of snow on the ground and another 6 inches forecast for this afternoon and tonight, and high winds of 20 to 30 mph. Sean emailed me and wrote it's the same thing in Oklahoma City.

Linda tells me that in St. Louis they have 3/4 inch of frozen sleet on the ground, and they are expecting 12 to 16 inches on top of it. I'm going to try and take some pictures of it tomorrow when it stops snowing, but I ain't going out in that mess today!!

How are you doing in NYC, Chuck?
