David Price fight?
Blimey, was Big Daddy the best heavy is South Africa? How can Pricey look good with a match up like that?
Re: David Price fight?
Looked like he was fighting that chap from WWF from the early 90s, The Ugandan Giant
Re: David Price fight?
It was a disgrace.
The board really need to step in and ensure that the safety of these fighters is the primary issue. There's no way that lad should have been in with David Price.

Re: David Price fight?
unfortunately a lot of the boards decisions are based on a fighters history... on paper this was a test for price, there were good names on his record, some of them stoppage wins. thats the way it goes in this game. whatever frank maloney does he cant win. if frank puts price in with sprott and price loses, then frank well get slagged off!LeedsLad wrote:It was a disgrace.

Agree, the South African was a test on paper, bit of a nightmare for Frank when he turns up out of shape.rhino222 wrote:unfortunately a lot of the boards decisions are based on a fighters history... on paper this was a test for price, there were good names on his record, some of them stoppage wins. thats the way it goes in this game. whatever frank maloney does he cant win. if frank puts price in with sprott and price loses, then frank well get slagged off!LeedsLad wrote:It was a disgrace.

I don't know if he did look like a test on paper. He certainly bloody didn't look it to me. I'd never seen him, but simply looked at his record & saw he got knocked down four times & KTFO'd against Joseph bloody Chingangu, he hadn't fought for a year & was fat. These things did not have me brimming with confidence, & I said so.
Of course, many on here decried my piss-taking, but it's nice to be proved right. Thank you David.

Re: David Price fight?
That was apparantly a commonwealth title eliminator , so hes got to be seriously stepping up soon .
As i said on the Tom Dallas thread someone like Ferguson would be a step up from what theyve been fighting but i think price would be too good for ferguson , id say make it if theres no one else willing but to me price needs to be going in with the rogans , and sprotts of the scene very soon otherwise he might stall a bit .
It seems maloney is struggling to get these guys matched up , so might be worth forking out and bringing over a couple of americans who wont have really heard much about them but are a good enough standard to test them maybe the likes of Derek Bryant or if wanting someone slightly lower in abilty than bryant then theres Jason Gavern or Zack Page

Re: David Price fight?
I would imagine the higher cost would in general be air fair etc , as far as their actual purse i dont know , Maloney eluded to it being a similar price to europeans when questioned about it on here in the past but i dont think many people were convinced .Bleak wrote:Do the American Journeymen cost alot more,? obviously air fare and hotel bumps it up
Re: David Price fight?
If the American journeymen are available at a similar price to the Europeans it makes more sense to bring them over.
Maloney has really let himself down in the past couple of years with ridiculously cautious matchmaking of his young prospects, hiding behind the ''well no-one wants to fight'' and ''I can't make it until there's something really big on the line'' excuses.
Some of the Euros that have come over wouldn't beat a rugby player over six rounds - they're that bad.
David Haye fought Tony Booth on his debut for God's sake, Price is an Olympic medallist with nine fights - not one of them would have had a chance against Booth at his best, or anywhere near it.
He's got a pretty large stable, we need to establish some sort of pecking order pronto, otherwise they'll all get to 40 and fought nobody.
Price really ought to consider sacking Maloney if things don't improve. Chisora would muller him if they fought any time soon, purely because he's got some seasoning and experience under his belt.

Price would absolutely destroy Chisora and Fury. Only time Chisora won the ABAs was when Price did not enter as it clashed with the worlds.
Notable that Price was in good shape too, compared to that over-hyped lump Fury, who seems to get heavier with every fight.

As much as I find the words "Fury" & "prospect" juxtaposed in a sentence hilarious, even you would not be able to deny that Fury's 8th fight (against former British title challenger & fat bloke John McDermott) was rather more ambitious piece of matchmaking than Price's 8th fight (against a fat bloke knocked down four times & blasted out by Joseph Chingangu)?gobbles wrote:

Actually, scratch that, I'm sure you actually could claim Price's opponent as more impressive. Forget I said it.

Re: David Price fight?
Im not sure id put price in with chisora at this point even if chisora offered it , Chisora could potentially out bully price , i know what went on in the amateurs but this is the pros , its not quite the same , price could end up far supreme to chisora but he isnt there just yet imo , And as Datsue said too , fury was matched much tougher than price and will have learned from that far more than what price will have

Yeah i agree, for me price doesnt utilize his height and reach enough like the klitschkos do and chisora has very good head and upper body movement and i think he'd get on the inside of price and beat him up in all honestydamianhucker1 wrote:Im not sure id put price in with chisora at this point even if chisora offered it , Chisora could potentially out bully price , i know what went on in the amateurs but this is the pros , its not quite the same , price could end up far supreme to chisora but he isnt there just yet imo , And as Datsue said too , fury was matched much tougher than price and will have learned from that far more than what price will have

I agree with you Price is a good fighter. He getting good sparring with Solis next. He be British champion soon. Like to see him with Skelton, Sprott, Rogan or Sexton next.gobbles wrote:LeedsLad wrote:If the American journeymen are available at a similar price to the Europeans it makes more sense to bring them over.

Price gets better sparring than he does fights... pathetic match and time him and Dallas were given a test. I bet they are both embarrassed by their opposition too and should be having serious words with their management who at the moment are failing them by giving them these tomato cans to knock over. A waste of quality heavyweights. Good start would be to put either of them in with the winner of McDermott v War Machine.

How about Dallas vs Price?
I think Coleman Barratt would be a good fight for either of the lads at this stage. Or even someone like Carl Baker. But I'm guessing not many chaps are too keen to get in with Price or Dallas. They are big guys who can crack a bit. Maybe the better domestic guys are asking too much to get in with them so it's a bit of a catch 22 for Maloney.

Re: David Price fight?
yes proved me wrong there, Osborne Machimana was at one time a decent talant , and i had hoped that the loss to Chingangu was at least competitive, plus Machimana had 2 fights since then and gone 12 rounds in one of them, i was thinking he'd be here in shapeDatsue wrote:I don't know if he did look like a test on paper. My biggest criticism of his style is that he doesn't use his jab well enough - that's something to work on definitely. He's got good footwork and puts his punches together pretty well.
At this stage it's foolish to suggest he beats Chisora, Derek has two KO wins over Sam Sexton and a few other decent-ish wins, whereas David has fought absolutely nobody and has zero experience in the ring against what I'd call a ''good'' opponent.
Why all the hate for Fury?
Sure he's got a silly name and runs his mouth too much - but looking at a 13 fight career there's a fair amount on there, including some impressive stoppages over good journeymen, a shut out of Zack Page and also the wins over McDermott.
He's also getting experience of fighting in foreign conditions too, which I think is important down the line.
David looks frustrated in every post fight interview, because he's 27 and approaching/at his peak - but is being badly mismanaged it seems.
As much as I dislike David Haye, when they had the Setanta deal they were putting on some good shows with good opponents. Too often it seems the promoters on Sky (Maloney in particular it's got to be said) are putting lads in with the weakest acceptable foe - and it's got to change for the good of not just the prospects, but the sport as a whole.
People watching the sport for the first time would be frustrated to see two quality young fighters facing such fodder, and then to hear the promoter desperately wanting to keep them apart..... might cause them to switch off and watch something else next time.

Re: David Price fight?
Another Frank Maloney special.
@ Frank - I know you view this board, so can you explain why you suggested on Ringside that the public deserves competitive fights...when you're delivering anything but ? Dallas and Price are just being served up dross. They'll both have harder spars and can't be learning a thing. What's the point ? Time to dig into your funds and secure some decent opponents to stimulate some public interest. The way things are going, Dallas is going to be 20-0 having never had even the slightest hint of a test.

Re: David Price fight?
Its a similar post to the one that Frank replied to when he was getting those Latvians over that in all honesty were truely awful.
Its not doing Franks promotions any favours & certainly not doing boxing in general any!

Re: David Price fight?
What made me smile was Maloney stating in the interviews after that Price is the best heavyweight in the country and also stating that Dallas is aswell and that fights with British heavyweights got refused. If they are the best British heavyweights and others refuse to fight them then I dont think we have much to look forward to. Wouldn't it have been better for the fans to have seen Dallas v Price instead of the poor opposition they both faced?
Re: David Price fight?
They are both doing what they such be doing and taking their oppositions out in the right way. I stick to what i said last night David Price is the best heavyweight in this country. I am quite happy to do a join show with MH with Fury and Price fighting each other and sharing the undercard with our fighters. Your argument should be with the ratings committ. Last nights oppen. was rating by then and he was the SA champion. Look at was some of you wrote about how he was a step up in class for Price, So because Price made it look very easy you all come on here changing your mind. And no one was saying how bad Dallas's oppen was after the went the full time with Big Martin Rogan.
