There has been a lot of poor matches on his cards, but you cant blame Frank really, he's gotta keep his guys active and on his shows making money. He was on ringside a while ago and said it's hard to gauge how good an opponent is, they go on boxrec and stuff and these guys look like decent tests. The South African guy definitley looked a tough fight for Price on paper

Promoters always try to palliate the poor matchups they have created by saying no one wants to take on their guy. Maloney is making it seem like finding a decent opponent for Price is a quixotic task, but if he really was offering good pay days with lots of notice, I'm sure there would be a lot of options for Price right now. Honestly, I just don't believe that other top domestic fighters have any reason to be terrified of him. Yes, he is a leviathan of a man and he hits hard, but he has also exuded vulnerability since his amateur days.

With all that said, I do admit that on paper this seemed like a step up. I can't blame Pricey because his opponent turned out to be a corpulent blob (299? god damn!). Hopefully his next bout will be against someone who is in good shape and can go rounds. Zack Page would a decent choice and he doesn't duck anyone. If someone accuses him of ducking, you know they are full of shit. At least get Price some rounds (don't select an opponent who was dropped four times by Chingangu). You don't want him to be unprepared when he steps up against someone who can beat him. On the bright side, Price seems to be getting some very high quality sparring and to a degree this will mitigate his lack of official pro experience.

For such big fellas, the heavyweights are so bloody precious.

When you look at someone in an equally lean weight class, like Ian Napa - he generally fought everyone domestically (sometimes more than once).

Yet the heavy's plod along.

The reality the division was dead years ago and nobody really cares much for them, except promoters.

Fans have gotten wise to the fact that smaller men will always give a better fight.

We have try all of the UK heavyweights( as our press rels. said there no reason for me to lie) 2 have promise us they will look at it after there next fight other just say no, So today we have asked the BBBofC to include David Price in anything to do with the British Heavyweight title. And like you all i believed this was a step up and when i saw the guy at the weight in i was upset but the fight did what we needed to get David into the commonwealth rating and hopefully into the EUB rating as it was a 10 round fight. But what ever you want to say Price did the right job on him and took him out the right way,I would have be more upset if David did not take him out the way he did.

King Geedorah wrote:It is tough with heavyweight. DeGale can be rushed but you cannot do this with heavies. I bet that the trainers are glad that Frank is moving them carefully as you don't as much quality sparring for heavies, this is why Price has nipped abroad. When the time comes to move them up in class the risks increase so best to get them whoever you can early so they can have run outs in-between gym sessions and iron out any flaws. If you don't tread carefully you're heavies will get ironed out due to technical deficiencies.

We can't bemoan the lack of quality at the top and then accuse Maloney of failing to get quality guys at this level, especially imports, the division is moribund so you do the best you can, and Frank is adept at moving his fighters.

As for the show itself, seen threads on ESB bemoaning it but the main event was class and the heavyweight fights are what they are.
The main event was good just like mcdonell the other week.

Can you say how much was offered to these British fighters?
Can you answer this question? Or is it inappropriate to give those sorts of details?
How much money was offered? And to which fighters?

There is boxing and there is Heavyweight Boxing ( i recall a number of people in the business and fan's saying the same things about Lennox Lewis and look how he ended up.

Totally agree with this post!!!! both had step ups and came through well. Next step up is a top 15 UK opponent in my view. Keep up the good work. Rock on Tommy doing great!!

Well with the return of the TV series he has loads of ways to get him attention!

Cowboy hats etc....the papers love that shit.

My point on Maloney's heavies isn't the quality to be honest, its the quantity. But I think the modern idiom is to learning by sparring int he camps of bigger names - never did Larry Holmes any harm.

But I'd like to see Price but 6-7 fights in the bag this year.

I think the reason why Degale is being rushed is 3 fold.

1) He's got the talent - massive aspect.

2) He got a massive signing on fee (by his accounts) - so the pressure is on him to perform, don't want no Ricardo Williams or Audley Harrison scenario's. Got to keep him busy.

3) With Amir defected, not much in the name of Box office talent over at FW. Big fights involving Degale are about the only thing keeping these "massive" PPV's going. He's the biggest name, so he needs the limelight.

He is accepting what Frank Maloney is doing - time and times again a fighter can learn more from the gym than he does in his early fights.

I really do not understand your alarm and some of your posts and threads pang of real naivity when it comes to boxing.

David Price will be put in a test when Frank Maloney thinks he is good and ready.
Dont patronise me,just because you're a teaboy or something for one of the promotional outfits in this country that doesnt make you an expert.

you have to be thick, if you think lennox needed guidance & was steered in a superior way to become world champion :!:

if maloney's fighter was earning a fiver he'd take 4 squid :!: the man is ruthless he'd sell his own mum :!: but apart from the latvian lemmings maloney does find out if his boys can have it. obviously heavyweights are shy & there aint much comp & you cant blame him, he's shifted the ball in the bbbofc court & they have to start demanding eliminators etc.

also i see maloney getting dry humped by some 6ft mongrel looking poodle last sunday

I'm all for moving people along but to put Price in with Rogan at this juncture (when he hasn't had a punch thrown at him in anger) is a little naive.

They should be looking at him after another 3-4 fights true, but Rogie would be a huge risk at this stage.

I know what you're saying about his previous opponents but Price has the height, reach and boxing ability to keep the aging Rogan at bay. Sexton's height and boxing ability nullified Rogan in the second fight and he gassed badly. A show of Rogan's age may be the fact he went the distance in his last fight with a guy Sprott demolished in one before him
i do agree a couple of fights down the line would be better though but who's the alternative....maybe Carl Baker or Rich Power who Fury beat on points
