George Groves Pull's out of fight

Post by wadey »

I've just noticed that George Groves has pulled out of his potential fight this saturday in Liverpool. I wonder if this has any thing to do with purse bids due today for Degale v Groves. Very suspicious me thinks.......

In Franks coloum he mentions that purse bids are due and that they may have to fight in a few weeks , so maybe groves not wanting to risk anything in this fight incase the Degale fight is soon.

probably wont happen though

Hayemaker will pull him out of the purse bits citing the injury.

Suspicious to say the least!! The winner of todays purse bid has to stage the fight by the end of April. However, there will be an extention granted if one of the fighters is injured.......this would allow (if they won in) Hayemaker to put this on the undercard of their show when Haye fights again in May.

Good business having this fight as a support, but is being inactive until May really the best situation for these young fighters to be in?

As much as i'd like to see it, I don't think Groves will fight Degale. I just don't think Booth will allow Groves to fight Degale at this stage of his career.

Whoever bulks now has to carry the burden of ducking out. Obviously the extent of Groves injury has to established, but it's now time for both DeGale or Groves to either put up of shut up.

They were desperate for it before and were calling him out left right and centre. If they suddenly go all quiet after the purse bids then it will speak volumes.

I think fwanks realised DeGale would outclass Groves after seeing each of their last fights and wants to make it now before stepping DeGale up a level or two.

I'd be really surprised if Booth makes the fight, as I think it's clear from their last fights that Groves is gonna get walloped.
DeGale looks miles ahead in progress, and I think he'd end Groves' career before it even gets started.

MW,

Surely Booth would have pushed on with Groves' fight if that was the case.

Yep that's true - maybe he'll take the fight, but I'd still be surprised, as it looks a massive gamble. I can't see where Booth gets the idea that his man has the beating of DeGale at this stage.

Booth wont let the fight happen, they will duck it and run a mile..... in his last fight Groves was close to being stopped by Anderson, DeGale as much as i dont like him will walk through Groves and destroy him totally!!!!

Groves was calling DeGale his 'cash cow' but that has gone now as fight gone to purse bids, that tells me its just a pay day to him. If he truely believed he would beat DeGale then he would fight him at any price!!!!!! :geek:

The whole Hayemaker set up is as bad for the fans as Bob Arum's attitude. They're not interested in making matches that the public want, it's about making money, and I understand it is a business, but Groves v DeGale is a fight that British boxing needs, just as Haye v Klitschko is a fight the heavyweight division needs, but they won't make the fights because they know they would both lose. They are going to draw out the careers of Haye against journeymen and no hopers, and Groves against beatable SMW's because as soon as he steps in with DeGale he's getting ruined. DeGale is on a different level. Smigga would deal with Groves easily and DeGale did a number on Paul (who I'm a big fan of) - it just showed that DeGale is a special talent and Anderson exposed Groves as a slightly above average domestic level fighter.

DeGale to his credit fought a hardened, seasoned champion in Paul Smith and did his job, very early in his career. He put it on the line. Groves won't, because he can't. There's talk of DeGale looking at a World Title shot this year, in such a short period of time that's phenomenal, with so few rounds behind him, but most of us boxing fans will be thinking that he's got a more than decent chance of pulling it off (he might not be ready for Froch/Ward/Dirrell but Sartison is beatable for him)

Why would they have put a proxy bid of 400k in then? surely they'd have gone lower so as to not win the bids then disagreed with whatever terms were offered?
