Perhaps not the best move, but it beats sticking (literally sticking) with "meaty Mick" (thanks for that Spud). I'd also like Autobran to post, because I told him Murray was killing himself staying with Hennessy and waiting for this WBC shot, which was never EVER going to happen.

Good fighter is John and he will get some activity and a shot at a weak title holder.

Then follow that with a fight against Mitchell at the MEN.

Predictable path and wont actually improve Murray, as a fighter, but will give him activity, money and a belt.

Nice guy Murray, so all the best.

I wouldnt be surprised if we see murray vs brandon rios if he beats acosta for the wba belt and that would be a cracking scrap

bran??

my computer's broken so i can't post much on forums.

i never really liked FW shows or FW fighters for that matter, but murray wants big fights and it could make things happen so it's probably a good thing. he's been a bit of an outsider, hasn't he.

Thinking about it again, I'm less convinced its a good move.

Henessey's handling of John has been criticsed in the past, but it hasn't exactly been that easy for Hennessey - remembering all the squabbles with VIP promotions (I don't want to bring that) but it did cause some issues with regards to John's activity levels at one point. There was also big issues with his weight early on which slowed his career down a touch - Remember he was inline to fight for the British Super Featherweight title, without never fighting at the weight.

With John ranked 3 with the WBC and on the verge of a eliminator fight - I would hate for John to turn his attention to the WBO and fight Swedish dwarfs in title defences.

John's 26 - didn't turn pro to a huge PR campaign or media attention - I think getting proper EBU title defences and a #3 ranking with the WBC isn't that bad going.... Particularly given the off the scene issues that have been at Hennessy towers (TV) and with John's personal career. Remember Ricky was 28 before he got his world title shot (proper) and he turned pro to much bigger hype at a far younger age.

Speaking of Ricky, I can think of one promoter who I think John should have thought of signing with.... Who better to get the Manchester Faithful behind him, who is a lot closer, both in terms of friendship and promotional ties with the biggest fight that is out there for John.

But what was his excuse for not pushing:
Witter
Froch
Fury

I could go on. All 3 should be recognised names by now.

There comes a time when you stop looking at reasons for him not doing it, and go somewhere else where they can. There's too much of a pattern for it to be restricted to one fighter.

Sorry about calling you bran - it's barn I know. Also, I agree with you; Murray has been an outsider with Hennessy and if he were to stay with him then it would continue, IMO, regardless of how many WBC elimanator he's involved in. At least with Frank he'll get a world-title shot, sooner rather than later.

There is two different definitions of Pushing I guess. TV and Exposure pushing and Pushing up the boxing ladder.

Witter got to #1 with the WBC, and got granted an immediate shot to regain his title under Hennessy.

Froch got to #1 with the WBC (pattern here), and got granted an immediate shot to regain his title under Hennessy.

Fury - oh come on, he hasn't exactly been blitzing them away, he doesn't look the part either..... Fury had more exposure than most, primetime ITV - more viewer watched Fury than most FW fighters.... reason why Fury isn't a named fighter is because of his ability- not the lack of promotion and opportunity.... indeed, was going to make a post about this. Since it seems HSpress is back on the fury rampage I've notice alot of people seem to be rating Fury alot more - without him doing ANYTHING (literally not fighting) to warrant it. I mean take the "who should Fury fight next" - people suggesting he deserves to share the same ring, and even think he'll beat, Hasim Rahman. Imagine if anyone suggested "Rahman next" for John McDermott after his first fight with Fury.

Witter - not a TV friendly fighter, never has, never will be. Dumped by the promoter we are talking about - so always a tough ask..... but got him 2 cracks at the title. How is that not pushing - he won tradition best belt in the devision.

Froch - TV friendly fighter alright, but also had opportunity after opportunity to gain a fan base on National TV - is it his persona? Still Hennessy got him two cracks at the WBC title.

So its Howard Eastman WBC title shot, Witter 2 x WBC title shots, Froch 2 x WBC title shot, Murray high on WBC rankings - seems Mick has more connections than we give him credit for.

Come on then, in your expert knowledge why is this a bad move Mr McNeilly? Enlighten us all or is it a bad move in your opinion only and for you personally as you don't like anything to do with FWP because you are barred for all the tripe you revel in?

Explain.

I think we all need some enlightenment as to why Mr McNeilly thinks this is a bad move. On paper it's a great move, so I think you need to explain your comments further Ian!

I remember saying from the first time I saw John Murray, "This guy could be the next Hatton and do really well in Manchester, if only he could get on MEN type bills and get seen by a wider audience". His style is similar to Hatton, the only thing he doesn;t really have (or hasn't milked) is any football afiiliations that I know of. Warren seems ideal for him at this stage of his career.

B*llocks!!!

You are allowing personal opinions of a person cloud your judgement concerning a person's quality as a promoter - in my view its the best move possible for John Murray.

Personally think he should align himself more closely to GBP and work with British promoters who deal with him.

Biggest fight for Murray is Khan. GBP should get him Soto and Khan in quick succession given his ranking with the WBC.

Mr McNeilly is almost ill concerning his thoughts on Mr W arren - I remember a while back chatting to him on the phone concerning the "Best Promoter" and he almost brought me to tears with his endearing and loving words concerning Frank.

Sorry, I missed this one.

Go and post a link to some of 'the tripe' I revel in.

And saying I don't like anything to do with FWP isn't quite true. I have a lot of time for many of the boxers on Al's books. However, I don't like lots of other aspects of how FWP does things.

As you know, telling me to 'explain' will do you no good at all. I don't dance to your f**king shitty tune and never will. Life is much easier that way.
