John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
Probably deserves its own thread.
I cannot wait for this fight. Surprised F Warren has put these two together for Murray's first fight with him.
Should Murray win, he's sacrificed Mitchell and if Mitchell wins then has Murray found his level or is Mitchell back on the world scene?
Personally, i think it's an evenly matched fight. Mitchell won't have the same training issues he did with Katsidas as he knows if he loses this one his hopes of a world title are minimal.
My head says Murray to win on points applying similar tactics to Katsidas, but Mitchell is a class act and could out box Murray

Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
Alot of people are completely writing mitchell off since the loss to katsidis and saying murray will beat/ko him but katidis is a proven world level operator whereas murray isnt yet not only that but mitchell definietly is a better boxer than murray in terms of using the jab,etc plus he hits harder than anyone murray has fought upto now!I agree with you,i think its an almost 50/50 fight.Finch wrote:Probably deserves its own thread.

Yep, i agree with you too. Mitchell can not be written off and as you say, is a better boxer. Murray, albeit a come forward pressure fighter, maybe isn't has feroucious as Katsidas, and Mitchell, a big banger himself, could keep on the oustide and box his ears off like he did with Prescott.lefty wrote:Alot of people are completely writing mitchell off since the loss to katsidis and saying murray will beat/ko him but katidis is a proven world level operator whereas murray isnt yet not only that but mitchell definietly is a better boxer than murray in terms of using the jab,etc plus he hits harder than anyone murray has fought upto now!I agree with you,i think its an almost 50/50 fight.Finch wrote:Probably deserves its own thread.

I like both boxers, kinda wish they weren't fighting each other as it may spell the end of a world title chance for the loser.

Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
I think this fight depends on how the Katsidis fight affected Mitchell mentally. If he still has his usual confidence, he wins this IMO. He's the smaller man but he hits harder. Mitchell has the ability to outbox Murray and the power to keep Murray honest. Murray was struggling at times with Lee McAllister and Micthell is a level about Lee. That said I'd like to see Murray win and get a world title shot.

Has this bout been approved?
When's it on?
Cheers.
Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
I think Murray can bull him with his strength at the weight and will be too big/powerful for Mitchell to keep him off. but I say this as a staunch Murray supporter so my view is going to be biased towards Murray just a little bit! Mitchell 'pre-Katsidis' certainly should have a good chance still, he nearly got found out against Johanssen previously though.
Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
I don't wanna seem to like a pooper but I wanted to see Muzza vs the Kat, although this is a very decent 2nd choice, and what's not to say that fight can happen next. I am also amazed that the bookies have Mitchell slight favourite. Jeez.

I dont see the point in murray fighting katsidis myself, yeah it would be a fun fight to watch but katsidis has been found out everytime he's stepped up to the elite level and if murray wants to be a world champion whats the pointDioufy wrote:I don't wanna seem to like a pooper but I wanted to see Muzza vs the Kat, although this is a very decent 2nd choice, and what's not to say that fight can happen next. ^^^ absolute nonsense, no offence like
Murray would be the one stepping up if he was lucky enough to get a shot at Katsidis. and *if* he beat him- which there is by no means any formline to suggest that would be a formality- then it would be murray who finally proved he belongs somewhere aroubnd world level. which Katsidis has already proved.

I am in shock. The Kat has been found out? By whom? Marquez? Casamayor? Diaz?lefty wrote:I dont see the point in murray fighting katsidis myself, yeah it would be a fun fight to watch but katsidis has been found out everytime he's stepped up to the elite level and if murray wants to be a world champion whats the pointDioufy wrote:I don't wanna seem to like a pooper but I wanted to see Muzza vs the Kat, although this is a very decent 2nd choice, and what's not to say that fight can happen next. Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
well yeah! He's never become a legit world champion has he unless ive missed something?!I understand the point you're making but to me its a fight thats high risk and little reward,if he wins he's proved that he belongs at world level but he's still not a world champion and if he loses he's lost to a guy who's lost everytime he's stepped upto that level and thus his name will be pretty badly tarnished.Dioufy wrote:I am in shock. Are you saying Katisidis has never been in with a genuine champion?

no thats not what im saying, what im saying is everytime he has he's lostDioufy wrote:Are you saying Katisidis has never been in with a genuine champion?
Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
But look at who. Jeez, you're not pleased easily. He's been competitive in every loss. It's not like he's been spanked. Every time the Kat loses he seems to gain more respect. If you feel that Murray should stay away from him then I can't reply to that. Katsidis is an immense fighter and a loss to him isn't curtains.lefty wrote:no thats not what im saying, what im saying is everytime he has he's lostDioufy wrote:Are you saying Katisidis has never been in with a genuine champion?

Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
Its true about Katsidis, he's a proper warrior and has entertained us all greatly but i think in that time he's made a lot of people think he's world class whereas it's been shown that he's not. He's a very good fighter but hasn't got that extra bit of skill and know how to beat the very best.
Some people doubt Hatton's world credentials on here and he cleaned up the division and won a belt at a weight above. Katsidis has yet to win a belt

Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
Im looking at this from a promoters or managers point of view to be fair,i fully understand that katsidis has been competitive in every loss he's had and they were against quality fighters although i think diaz wasnt all that to be honest, anyway im just saying its a high risk/low reward fight.Say he lost to katsidis,in america in particular which is an important market he'll be seen as being beaten by a very gutsy and fun fighter to watch but also pretty limited and thats the truth of the matter.Murray vs brandon rios if he becomes WBA champ would be a better fight and if he beat rios then he could defend his title against katsidis.Dioufy wrote:But look at who. You're making things complicated. Rios? The public haven't heard of him - I mean I haven't even seen him fight. If Murray beats Mitchell then Murray/Katsidis for a version of a title would sell out the MEN because everytime Katsidis has fought over here he's never been forgotten easily.
It would a promotor's dream, IMO.

Murray vs. Rios in Texas/Mexico/Wigan or Murray vs. Katsidis at the MEN - only one of them makes a fortune.

Yeah but katsidis isnt a world champion and murray wants to win a world title, theres nothing to stop john from from fighting rios for the WBA title if he wins it and then defending his title against kat at the MEN.Dioufy wrote:You're making things complicated. Re: John Murray v Kevin Mitchell
So you think Murray fighting a decent world-champion for little money, in a different country, with a lot of apathy from the British non-boxing public beats Murray fighting for some version of a world-title (Frank will make sure it's for a 'world-title') in a winnable, sold-out MEN for a good few quid?lefty wrote:Yeah but katsidis isnt a world champion and murray wants to win a world title, theres nothing to stop john from from fighting rios for the WBA title if he wins it and then defending his title against kat at the MEN.Dioufy wrote:You're making things complicated. How will he make sure its for a world title then when the wba belt is held by acosta, the wbc by soto the IBF by vasquez and the wba by marquez?!Go and watch a rios fight,he's basically an unbeaten younger version of katsidis!Dioufy wrote:So you think Murray fighting a decent world-champion for little money, in a different country, with a lot of apathy from the British non-boxing public beats Murray fighting for some version of a world-title (Frank will make sure it's for a 'world-title') in a winnable, sold-out MEN for a good few quid?lefty wrote:Yeah but katsidis isnt a world champion and murray wants to win a world title, theres nothing to stop john from from fighting rios for the WBA title if he wins it and then defending his title against kat at the MEN.Dioufy wrote:You're making things complicated. He'll get it for a 'world-title' because there's about 15 viable belts per division.
