As Bredis Prescott?? You're not really setting the bar very high to be honest, Thaxton is at least his level. British & European Champion.

I'm not trying to slate Katsidis here, as i said i'm a fan but he's all action and not quite world class yet he absolutely demolished Mitchell. The beating he took was up there with Pacmans on Hatton!

Is Mitchell being lined up as the sacrificial lamb a la Smigga? Can't see FW signing Murray to all this fanfare and then putting him in a fight he thinks he'll lose. Great crossroads fight!

It seems he is - why would FW sign up Murray, only to toss him to the wolves ? But it also looks like he's just tossing the dice, and asking of his prospects, who's ready for the next level. Don't often see that, but this is the 2nd time Frank's done this recently.

But like I say, Mitchell could well win this - he'll be fired up for it for sure, and Murray is coming to his hometown to take him on.

Dont think hometowns matter, Katsidis came to Mitchell's home town....

I think if you read Warren's presser regarding the signing of Murray, you will see that he clearly sees Murray as the future potential star. As sad as it sounds, Mitchell has already had his shot at the big time and failed miserably.

It's all about timing. I remember when David Barnes having a surprise defeat and the next thing you know Khan is on the scene and Barnes is ditched. Seems to be the same with Smith/Degale and Mitchell/Murray.

I think people are putting far to much emphasis on the Katsidis loss for Mitchell. I understand it was brutal but Kat is arguably the strongest man going at LW, proving it in my eyes by hammering Marquez to the canvas in a much heavier fashion than FMJ did at 147!!! Mitchell simply didn't have enough pop on his Jab to keep a very strong man at bay.

Whilst i do consider Murray the slight favourite i refuse to believe he will be able to eat jabs to the face like Kat was in order to get his shots off, and dont feel he will have an impact in the fight until mid rounds when his pressure will start to slowly wear down Mitchell. I fancy Murray on points but would not be suprised to see it go the other way.

People also seem to be forgetting that Kev has a pretty impressive fanbase to, so its possibly a clever fight for FW to make in order to see who gets the ultimate push at world level. If its a good scrap i expect to see a rematch for an ABC belt down the line.

:TU: Good post, agree. And a good point re Kat putting Marquez down so heavily, the amazing Mexican looked OUT as he went down. How many other fighters could have put JMM over like that ? Not many, so it's no wonder Mitchell was shocked by the Aussies strengh.
If he shakes off the rust fast enough, the punches Murray hits him with shouldn't cause anything like the trouble Kat put him in.

Mitchell didn`t just look shocked by Katsidis strength - but he looked defected and sorry for himself. He seemed to fall apart like a bully realising he has met a bigger tougher bully :(

If Murray jumps on him quickly. I would expect Mitchel to fall apart even quicker.

And there tells everyone where their hard earned should go in this fight!

Good match up but it's one that is taking place for a reason. Murray is being showcased here, it's his stepping out fight.

Forget that, just seen it's off. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Mitchell's awful once he gets above domestic level (I'm not sure he's that good at that level), little skills and not much power. Good job it is off, he would have been exposed (again) and stopped comfortably before halfway.

I think it was the lack of punch resistance/survival instincts that Mitchell showed versus Katsidis, mate. I mean, Katsidis obviously hits like a brick (far, far harder than Murray, if you ask me) but Graham Earl took about eleventy-million of those before he went. The way Kev reacted to those left hooks was worrisome & indeed more worrisome was the way he could then no longer get his shit together after taking them. Admittedly Katsidis was on him like a shark but he just fell apart so alarmingly.

EDIT: I can't believe "worrisome" is actually a word.

I understand what your saying, but thats one fight. I'm still not convinced that, that was the real Kev Mitchell in there that evening. I'm not saying he'll beat Murray, mainly because Murray has never fought any one in my opinion in Mitchell's callibre. Thats why this fight would have been interesting, and a chance to see what Mitchell is really made of.

'Politics', which tbh the Boxrec filter should just change to 'Bullshit' in a boxing contest. Someone wants another fiver probably.
