Dioufy whether you like to believe it or not boxing politics has improved over the years - nowhere near to the levels where me or you would want it - but it has improved.Dioufy wrote:Work with it, or tolerate it? Are those my two choices when it comes to this? If that's true then boxing is going down faster than I could ever imagine. Come on, Spud, we put up with a lot, duff match-making, too many world-titles, the best refusing to fight the best, and now this. If I could say wanted I wanted to say about this then I'd get banned. It's wrong on every level, and it just brings the sport into disrepute once again. Do you ever wonder why casual boxing fans stay casual boxing fans? It's nonsense like this from promotors that make the sport intolerable to watch. It's actually getting criminal.Spud wrote:Dioufy - its boxing - you know enough about the sport to realise it will happen time and time again - dont work against it work with it or tolerate it.Dioufy wrote:Spud, I wouldn't call it clever, I'd call it very unethical, at very best, and if stuff like this becomes the norm, then purse-bids will become incredibly undermined. Another black mark for boxing, IMO. God damn promotors - why do they have to be so sly? It's nonsensical, again, at very best.
I have always stated "Boxing Politics" is more interesting than a lot of fights - the wheeling and dealing, manoeuvering, skulduggery etc etc is sometimes bloody intriguing and whether we like it or not it will always be part of British Boxing.

Re: Dave Coldwell & Adam Booths Purse Bids
Spud, I too enjoy the politics of the sport, but not regressive politics that bring the sport into disrepute. It's insane if Coldwell gets away with this - they're quite obviously in cahoots, and if Coldwell promotes the show then I'll retract everything, but he's not going to do that. It's one step forward, then sixteen back.

Nah, he's not that bad. Perhaps a little annoying, but he knows his stuff, I guess. One of his bad points though are his inability to use these "" correctly.lefty wrote:spud, the man who knos professional boxing like no other man or atleast in his own head anywayDioufy wrote:Me or Spud'lington?

Yeah but most people who are fans of boxing want to watch good fights and they couldnt give a toss about the wheeling and dealing, manoevering, etc. The reason why you like that is because you work within the boxing industry to some degreeSpud wrote:Dioufy whether you like to believe it or not boxing politics has improved over the years - nowhere near to the levels where me or you would want it - but it has improved.Dioufy wrote:Work with it, or tolerate it? The "Regressive Politics" as you put it are a fundamental part of the sport - its not like any other sport - a promoter not only has to compete financially with others to capture the best fighters signatures he then has to compete on finances to gain his fighters the most interesting fights which attract revenue through TV, gate receipts etc etc and thus you will get "politics" going on all the time.Dioufy wrote:Spud, I too enjoy the politics of the sport, but not regressive politics that bring the sport into disrepute. I will state again - its the most interesting part of the sport on many occasions.

Yes but the majority of people who watch boxing want to watch good fights and dont care about that stuff and its the boxing fans and public that keep the industry going and as the saying goes the customer is always right.Spud wrote:The "Regressive Politics" as you put it are a fundamental part of the sport - its not like any other sport - a promoter not only has to compete financially with others to capture the best fighters signatures he then has to compete on finances to gain his fighters the most interesting fights which attract revenue through TV, gate receipts etc etc and thus you will get "politics" going on all the time.Dioufy wrote:Spud, I too enjoy the politics of the sport, but not regressive politics that bring the sport into disrepute. Re: Dave Coldwell & Adam Booths Purse Bids
But you aren't grabbing my point. It may be interesting to you, and perhaps a few other, but these "regressive politic", which they are, put casual fans off getting into the sport, therefore slowly killing it. Boxing is already a minority sport, and I expect it to become dwarfed by other martial art sports soon enough.Spud wrote:The "Regressive Politics" as you put it are a fundamental part of the sport - its not like any other sport - a promoter not only has to compete financially with others to capture the best fighters signatures he then has to compete on finances to gain his fighters the most interesting fights which attract revenue through TV, gate receipts etc etc and thus you will get "politics" going on all the time.Dioufy wrote:Spud, I too enjoy the politics of the sport, but not regressive politics that bring the sport into disrepute. Lets be honest here - boxing has always been a minority sport with regards to football, cricket, horse racing etc etc - and with regards to other sports overtaking it - maybe so - but we have all been scaremongering about that for sometime - I think the likes of W arren, Maloney and Hatton Promotions are doing well on Sky.
Now if Sky were to withdraw from the sport then your points become extremely valid and my interest in the politics would certainly change.
Re: Dave Coldwell & Adam Booths Purse Bids
Spud, I agree boxing has always been a minority sport in context with football and stuff like that, but a few weeks ago Eurosport had boxing scheduled and they knocked it on the head because the table-football had overrun. Jeez, it's not on the BBC, nor ITV, and the majority of decent fights we have to pay extra for.
And you're telling me boxing isn't slipping?

The negotiations are only more exciting than the fights...because the big fights aren't getting made...because of the protracted and farcical negotiations. If the sport was properly organised we might have seen Haye fight both Klitschko brothers by now and a Pacquiao-Mayweather trilogy. Still, the negotiations have been fun, haven't they?

I have had the same complaints as yours for a good few years - but it hasnt got any worse than then - at the moment I think the coverage we are getting from Sky is very good. I also think we need to give their coverage positive and constructive feedback rather than "its sh*t" - my trail of thought on this is if we do - then maybe just maybe the TV Executives and the journalists might just gain some interest and we will then get even more coverage.Dioufy wrote:Spud, I agree boxing has always been a minority sport in context with football and stuff like that, but a few weeks ago Eurosport had boxing scheduled and they knocked it on the head because the table-football had overrun. Spud, the politics would be fun if they led to fights being made. Are you honestly enjoying the Haye/Wlad debacle, even though 95% of this site is bored with the issue?

Re: Dave Coldwell & Adam Booths Purse Bids
Why give it positive and contructive feedback if it is crap though?Theres ways you can go about, firstly you can just stop watching and then if sky cares about boxing it will be forced to step up its game and secondly you can complain about it,by giving them positive and constructive feedback all your doing is telling that what they're doing now is good even if its crap and as for the tv executives and journalists getting interested because you've given positive and constructive feedback well thats laughableSpud wrote:I have had the same complaints as yours for a good few years - but it hasnt got any worse than then - at the moment I think the coverage we are getting from Sky is very good.
