Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
It's a shame that Povetkin has the same sized balls as One Jab.
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Different type of "balls" I think Dioufy - almost the opposite to Harrison. Harrison is ultra confident in all the build up, I believe even in the ref's instructions, just fights scared - always has.
Povetkin - doesn't fight scared, but knows he's too small for Klitchsko, so he won't step in the ring with him. I think Audley would fight Klitchsko in a heart beat - but would put on a pathetic display.
Tough match for Haye this one. We are talking the Best, or next best non champion out there - it will do for me.
Can see Haye having a feel day in the aftermath - with Klitchsko fighting an inferior Chisora.

I can't remember who on this board said it, but they said if Harrison had fought one of the Klitschkos, he likely would have lasted 8-10 rounds (as does everybody) and would have come out of it with people praising his bravery!stujones wrote:I think Audley would fight Klitchsko in a heart beat - but would put on a pathetic display.
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Couple of years ago Povgerkin was the best non-champion. Now he's regressed. Hasn't kept his powder dry.
Interesting that 3 fighters negotiated with K2 in 2010 and complained of their demands. But naturally the rule is to select what you believe on these forums.

Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Povetkin will be a far better fight than Haye-Chagaev...
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
This is a sensible fight and one I'd be happy to be made. Easily Haye's toughest fight as a HW, though you wonder where Povetkin's head has been at lately (atlas?).
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Interesting to read Povetkin's comments re: the Klitschkos. Would appear to be sound, corroborative evidence of Haye's complaints about these two.

I think Klitchsko's jab would put Audley away.oliverfennell wrote:I can't remember who on this board said it, but they said if Harrison had fought one of the Klitschkos, he likely would have lasted 8-10 rounds (as does everybody) and would have come out of it with people praising his bravery!stujones wrote:I think Audley would fight Klitchsko in a heart beat - but would put on a pathetic display.

I was perhaps overly harsh on Povetkin because he's quite clearly a better fighter who has beaten some decent names, but at the moment, he's everything that is wrong with boxing. It's obvious that he's waiting for Wlad to lose or retire, so that he can pick that belt up and earn some wonga. I don't understand him doing the IBF route, beating some decent fighters, going to purse bids for a Wlad fight, then pulling out. At least, like you say, Audley would get in there. I doubt he'll fight Haye in England, too, and I don't see why Haye would go to Russia/Germany when he can sell out the O2, with a good undercard. Povetkin should be ashamed, because the boy's got talent, but he doesn't want to test it against the best. Fecking "0's" piss me off sometimes.

Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
First of all, despite the common jibe, I don't think Harrison's chinny. He's only been floored by Williams, Sprott and Haye. Two of those guys are top punchers and while Sprott's got a sub-50% KO, that particular shot he floored Harrison with would have troubled anybody.stujones wrote:I think Klitchsko's jab would put Audley away.oliverfennell wrote:I can't remember who on this board said it, but they said if Harrison had fought one of the Klitschkos, he likely would have lasted 8-10 rounds (as does everybody) and would have come out of it with people praising his bravery!stujones wrote:I think Audley would fight Klitchsko in a heart beat - but would put on a pathetic display.
Second, a Klitschko jab is indeed damaging. That's why their opponents seem to lose interest from quite early on. Fans say "why doesn't he give it a go at least?", but they're not being pummeled by an 84" jab with 250lb behind it in their attempts to do so. But even so, it's not a power shot. Neither Klitschko is a KO puncher. They have high stoppage ratios, but in most cases it's from an accumulation of shots.
Harrison doesn't really have a bad chin, and his cautious style, while much maligned, would likely help him last well into the second half.
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Klitchsko (both of them) fight cautiously to a degree, but I do think when they get a fighter going they are good finishers. Sometimes their issue is they don't quite sense how hurt a fighter is. Prime example was Klitchsko vs Briggs - Briggs was gone in the 6th or 7th round - many thought the ref was stopping it as Briggs tettered around the ropes and Briggs wasn't complaining. Klitchsko followed it up well, untill the end of the round.
Start of the next round - Klitchsko fought cautiously.
However, Haye didn't catch Audley with that big a shot, Sprott rocked Audley at least twice in the rematch. I think Klitchsko's jab would to the same affect, and he will follow it up and it didn't take many clean shots to put Audley down.
Audley is pushing 40 now - he fights scared, but I actually think the Rogan, Sprott (rematch) and Haye fight showed an increasing vulnerability - possibly the sign of age. These were not clean beauties like the Sprott (fight one punch) - these were not that clean, yet rocking Audley.

Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Povetkin is a vast improvement on Haye's last debacle and presents a real challenge (a paper).
By the way, Harrison's as chinny as fcuk. He's scared stiff to take a shot, and the only reason he hasn't been stopped more often is becuase he avoids getting tagged at every opportunity. For Gods sake, on the biggest night of his life, he kept damage limitation to the absolute maximum instead of of trying to win the WORLD title and proving beyond any shadow of a doubt that he is full of sh!t.

Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Harrison is chinny. A fighter isn't chinny just because EVERY shot doesn't knock him out. Khan's still chinny, but he can take a half-decent shot, like most percieved chinny fighters. Katsidis is chinny, but just because EVERY shot doesn't knock him doesn't change that perception.
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Katsidis isn't chinny. He's got a good chin, imo. He just takes too many shots. He will probably be chinny soon enough because of that.Dioufy wrote:Harrison is chinny. I've seen him on queer street a few times, once in the flesh. The dude is chinny.Asterix wrote:Katsidis isn't chinny. He's got a good chin, imo. He just takes too many shots. Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
A fight between two guys unwilling to fight the top 2 guys in the division.
Kinda second division title fight for me .. the belt doesn't mean alot in the real context of things.
That said. Pretty good match-up.

Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
If Haye can get a result against Povetkin, I feel it puts him more on the level of a Klitchsco. It's then just a question of if Haye is serious about quiting by October 2011. Would be a big smudge on his legacy if he doesn't fight one or both of them.

Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
None of those guys are chinny. OK, I can hear the argument about Harrison and his style reducing the likelihood of getting knocked down, but still I'd say 32 heavyweight fights against a decent - if not top class (aside from Haye) - with only two stoppage losses and three knockdowns is hardly bad form in the whiskers department.Dioufy wrote:Harrison is chinny. I would have agreed about Khan until recently. You could put the Prescott loss down to a poor strategy against a known puncher, but his knockdowns by light punchers and superfeatherweights on the way up were worrying. But his display against Maidana more than redeemed him IMO and lent credence to the suggestion he was previously vulnerable due to weight-making.
And Katsidis?? If the argument re. Harrison is that he masks a poor chin with his defensive tactics, what on earth is the argument for Katsidis being chinny? He leads with his face and gets hit way more than he should. By rights he should have a host of knockdowns to his debit.

I like Haye a lot, but Povetkin knocks him out.

You say Harrison isn't chinny, now you say Khan isn't chinny, then the Kat. Tell me apart from Wlad K which fighter decent fighter is chinny. Every percieved fighter takes decent shots, like Enzo Macc against Braithwaite or Hobson, just like Katssidis did against Marquez, just like Khan did against Maidana. But ultimately that chin lets them down in the end. A fighter is chinny to me not because EVERY half-decent shot knocks him over, but because you know that a half-decent shot might knock him out. Like Enzo against Swaby/wobbled badly against Hobson, Khan against Prescott, Katsidis against Earl/an earlier fight where he was wobbled by a half-cuffing shot/Casamayor in the first minute. It's a difficult one to call, because if we go by your standards, not many fighters are chinny. Perhaps I'm a little tougher than you in my opinion, but to me, one fight were a fighter takes decent shots doesn't automatically tell me he's grown a chin - one swallow doesn't make a summer, mate. It's even the same about Haye - if he fought the best available at heavy then his chin will let him down. Again with Khan - I'd bet my life that that chin will get exposed again, because the twit is still chinny, regardless of the Maidana fight. It may have improved with the weight, ala Haye, but it's still fragile - check Khan's chicken dance at the end of the 10th, or the way his legs just left him when he was hurt.
IMO.
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
King G, is Marquez chinny by your logic, because to me, he's far far from it.
Re: Haye in very positive talks with Povetkin
Katsidis was winning against Earl, no one was getting spanked in the first minute of the Casamayor fight, so it's only the Marquez fight were he was getting beat. To me, that's being harsh, because you're stating that the Kat only gets spanked after being spanked a few rounds before it, when it only happened with Marquez.King Geedorah wrote:My idea of a chinny fighter is someone who gets knocked down often by innocuous shots but always gets up. Tito springs to mind. When Katsidis gets floored he stays floored as the knockdowns usually come after a few rounds of him getting spanked senseless.
