Adam Booth - character assassination
Adam Booth - character assassination
Anyone else notice that this board has recently featured a number of posts (even threads) that have been very critical of Adam Booth, both in terms of his personality and professional competence?
I have always liked Booth, from the interviews that I have watched - i think he comes across as very able, knowledgable and dedicated to his fighters. He's done a good job with Haye.
He's always been well respected on here too - I just wonder what has happened recently to cause an apparent change in the atmosphere towards him.
Funny that a lot of the negativity has come from comparatively new posters, almost as if people on here with known agendas have obtained second log-ins. Strange.

I've met Adam a couple of times and he seems a nice bloke to me! Like his modern approach to training too.

If you notice an account that you think is a secondary one, report the post and we (the moderators/administrators) will check it out.
People like BoxingChat are critical because Adam Booth is a rival promoter, even though attacking your rival is an archaic and negative way to go about your business.

All I have ever said about Booth is that he is a master of negotiating fighters out of big fights, it's true and many share that view.

Personally find him to be a bit marmite. I like him.

Out of interest, other than Haye v Vitali/Wlad, what other big fights have fallen through based on Booths negotiating?boxingchat wrote:

Success breeds envy in many.
Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
I'd just like to say I am a new poster and have been very critical of Booth in a few of my posts. This is simply because of Booth himself, the shite that he talks and how he comes over in the interviews I have seen. I have no agenda nor another account.
Maybe you should look at Booth/Haye without rose tints on?

Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
Perhaps he the scapegoat for Haye not fighting Wlad? People are mega pissed off with Haye calling out Wlad and Vitali on one set of principles (honour, best vs the best, titles, etc) and then pulling out again and again over another set, ie, money. Hayes entire career has been based on always fighting the best no matter what the odds or how big the reputation the opposition had and people loved him for that. Now he fights for money and couldn't care about the quality. Since hes been at HW hes fought a bunch of tomato cans whatever way you look at it or hype it. You don't go straight for Wlad and Vitali then sell us Valuev and Harrison as legit subs. Thousands were stung after the Harrison farce and Booth as a manager and promoter is responsible for all Hayes fights and career path so he is the obvious target. In business terms it made sense to fight Harrison but you cannot establish yourself as a boxer with morals that are based on fighting the best no matter what, only to suddenly change those principles and hope that your fans stay loyal to you.
Personally I think Booths a nice guy but I think a little out of his depth. He hasn't worked out that when Haye called out both Klits he immediately put himself into a weakened position because he was basically seen to be begging for a fight. Especially after his various highly publicised stunts. The Klits could then demand anything because as far as the public were aware Haye just wanted the fight as his reward. The fact that he is now a world champ and in business terms is worth money is irrelevant to most people as they still hear Haye saying 'I want the fight no matter what'. Yet he keeps calling it off over money. Somebody has to be blamed and if its not Haye then it has to be the guy that pulls the purse strings. Booth also doesn't seem to have grasped the fact that Hayes fans must be falling in numbers since the Harrison farce and their PPV clout that they wave about as a bargaining weapon must surely be diminished.

For the sake of clarity i am emphatically not suggesting anything WHATSOEVER to do with FW - and never would.lefty wrote:I criticised booth on here but if you think im anything to do with fw you're mad!danfoster wrote:Anyone else notice that this board has recently featured a number of posts (even threads) that have been very critical of Adam Booth, both in terms of his personality and professional competence?

I like Booth, as I've said on previous posts. I think he is very straight down the line and cares for his fighters.I don't know how people can say he has done a bad job. Haye is a 2 weight world champion, and Groves is improving.
I still can't beleive that people aren't critising Klitschko for taking on a 14 fight novice.

Ok,anyway ive criticised him because i find him overly smug and arrogant,i initially did like him when him and haye were talking about clearing up the division.etc.danfoster wrote:For the sake of clarity i am emphatically not suggesting anything WHATSOEVER to do with FW - and never would.lefty wrote:I criticised booth on here but if you think im anything to do with fw you're mad!danfoster wrote:Anyone else notice that this board has recently featured a number of posts (even threads) that have been very critical of Adam Booth, both in terms of his personality and professional competence?

Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
Met booth a couple of times & have to say tho he never spoke to me much he seemed ok. Don't know whether this was down to him but the cheque I received from hayemaker wad post dated for two weeks after my fight ,which meant I never actually saw any money for 3 weeks. In 65 fights never had this before. Took a hard job cox I were short & wasn't happy about this. Hayemaker have a bit of a knack for doing things different
Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
well he'll always be remembered for failing to destroy his great domestic rival... oh no hang on...doctorboxing wrote:Out of interest, other than Haye v Vitali/Wlad, what other big fights have fallen through based on Booths negotiating?boxingchat wrote:

Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
He is good at what he does, although he does have that stupid half smirk / smug look most of the time plastered on his face.
Both Haye and him are selfish types who really dont care for anyone, the opponents, the fans, basically anyone apart from themselves. The philosophy being, boxing can be a short career, lets get what we can and get the hell out.
Can't knock him, as he has been successful thus far. He has boxed professionally, knows the game and how promoters work.
He has upset F Warren, in particular, as he doesn't dance to his tune. Anyone pissing off FW cant that bad, in my book.

People don't like David Haye/Adam Booth because they are only in the fight game for themselves and don't seem to care about how they treat others, even the fans. Let's not forget that both Haye and Booth laughed off the Audley fight in the wake of his win over Sprott, saying Haye would not fight Audley. Then he fights Audley in his very next fight. And it's a joke. That nets Haye £5m+.

Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
I think Booth went into a new 'world' when he moved from acting as a trainer to getting involved in the actual business of boxing. His initial proclamations were full of good intentions but smacked of naivety and the change most people have observed is simply him adjusting to the realities of professional boxing - he's swimming with sharks now and has realised it's 'adapt or die'.
Of course it's disappointing to see him apparently indulging in the same 'games' he was initially so critical of, but we can only guess how hard it must be to operate in that environment.
The only time I've felt he and Haye really 'betrayed' fans was when the two-for-one deal was offered (think it was the Monte Barrett fight?), so the end result was that the 'hardcore' fans who had purchased tickets first, were the ones who were ripped off by effectively having to pay double compared to those who came later and took advantage of the offer. That is not the way to reward and recognise your most loyal followers![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
Just to balance this slightly, when public demand/Sky/whoever put Haye v Harrison forward, both Booth and Haye were always consistent. They said Audley was getting a shot but didn't really deserve it, they said he would sh1t himself, be totally dominated and stopped early doors. I can't remember either of them saying anything else.bruthead wrote:People don't like David Haye/Adam Booth because they are only in the fight game for themselves and don't seem to care about how they treat others, even the fans. I thought he was a breath of fresh air, now i'm not so sure.
Re: Adam Booth - character assassination
It's not as if Haye/Booth have been taking or looking for Audley type fights throughout his career, Haye's been toughly matched from the start of his career hence why he's won titles in 2 divisions and defended them in his first 25 or so fights.bruthead wrote:People don't like David Haye/Adam Booth because they are only in the fight game for themselves and don't seem to care about how they treat others, even the fans. The Audley fight was an exception not the rule........ looking at it from Hayes point of view, why wouldn't you beat up Audley for £5m+? Haye even informed the World that the fight would be extremely one-sided.

On a postive note, he is a very good trainer and conditioner and socially a decent fella so I'm told.
