Me vs Jason cook
Re: Me vs Jason cook
In reply to an earlier question about the Olympics. Yes, Frankie wins gold if he avoids the Mars bars.
This is a different Frankie. Johnny is right, we've not seen anything like his best yet.
Adios.

Re: Me vs Jason cook
I don't agree that Steve Williams would be step down from Jason Cook at all.
No way did Cook deserve a draw against Daws. Cook's a very good boxer and can be dangerous. He's some way past his best, flags after the half way point and is vulnerable to the stomach. He cheated Gary Reid out of genuine stoppage win....from a body shot.
I maintain Cook's a good match and I'm looking forward to it, but Steve Williams is improving and taking tough matches in a short pro career. No way did he come close to beating Daws, but he put in a tremendous effort until his corner withdrew him.
Gavin v Williams for the English title seems a natural to me, with loads of respect to be gained for the winner and, surely, a guaranteed shot at the British title.
One more thing. Win, lose or draw Steve Williams will not be any easy nights work (assuming it happens in the next 3/4 months).

Nigel Wright is the English champion at Light Welterweight. He deserves to be involved in any British title eliminators as much or more than Gavin or Williams.THEBUTCH wrote:Gavin v Williams for the English title seems a natural to me, with loads of respect to be gained for the winner and, surely, a guaranteed shot at the British title.
Re: Me vs Jason cook
I think Gavin has to be winning fights like this comfortably if he is to go anywhere at world level. Of course this is a step up in class and yes Cook can punch but I'd expect Gavin to win convincingly.
Re: Me vs Jason cook
Frankie Gavin is very talented and has worked very hard to hone those talents. This is boxing though! There's many a 'sure thing' been upended; while I don't think that Jason has the tools to do that it seems that most are expecting every bout Frankie has to be an exhibition, a breeze. I am sure that while it's likely that Gavin will get to world class he will have to fight his way there. There are men boxing at British and European level who are not likely to roll over and be the straight man for Frankie. Cook will ask some questions early on and there have been top class prospects done with one punch before.
Re: Me vs Jason cook
Remember, people. I'm one of the few that think Gavin's going to be a disappointment.
Re: Me vs Jason cook
I enjoy watching him box; he's cool headed and knows what he's doing. It'd be good if he gets to the top, he's likeable and presentable. The thing is he's to have to box his way to the top against men who want what he wants. Some of us are getting carried away and imagining him boxing beautifully to the World Title, no problems. I can't see it being quite that way. The Cook bout is a good match up, Jason's a strong man; he's at a good level and won't go to pieces under the lights. I hope the bout answers a few questions.
Re: Me vs Jason cook
cooky was preparing for a fight on the 5th march, so he is in pretty good nickhurlock wrote:that he has been active & dont need to boil down to lww.Dioufy wrote:Better how?

Re: Me vs Jason cook
I'm sure this fight will show frankie to be top drawer. Cook is a good fighter no doubt , I'm glad I never got to face Gavin , though I maybe would have gave him the run around over 4.he will show he,ll get to world class I think
Re: Me vs Jason cook
I've seen Frankie in with bigger and better than Cook and he takes people apart, I've said from day 1 Frankie is the best prospect in world boxing and let's not forget Cook is a former European Champion too, expect to see Frankies fast hands and feet expose Cook... 2011 will be Frankies year I firmly believe that!!

Prepare to be disappointed.Dioufy wrote:Remember, people. I'm one of the few that think Gavin's going to be a disappointment.
Trevor Nerwall (Smith) was a Brum fighter who upset Jason Cook early in his career - Trev did it with a bang; Gavin is a Brum fighter who is going to beat Jason at the tail end of his career but I expect a controlled and measured performance from the Yardley based counter puncher.
Gavin to stop Cook late with body shots for me...

It is a decent last minute replacement, but not worthy of topping a live tv bill.TerribleTerry wrote:As a late replacement to the Bellew fight, undoubtedly yes.oscar wrote:does this fight deserve to be top of bill?????????????
If someone at Sky had a pair of balls, they'd have fcked this one off and put the Hennessey show on on Saturday. 4 quality, evenly matched fights (on paper anyway) as opposed to one at York Hall.

Re: Me vs Jason cook
the question with cook is will he carry the power to 147lb? what we got to remember aswell with cook is he was european champ at 135lb,if cook doesnt land on gavin(not saying gavin hasnt got a good chin)within the first 5 round gavin will run out the winner.imo
Re: Me vs Jason cook
Fight at Welterweight then presumably Cookie could not get down to 140 at such short notice, although thats just my assumpton
Fancy Gavin strongly here and by stoppage by half way, he is simply too good and too accurate for Cook, yes Jason has the power to trouble most but if Gavin
lives the sport right he will go all the way, he has that quality that you don't see very often and for me its just a case of when they let him off the
leash, really rate this lad as you can probably tell.
