Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
That's not "weak-minded" though. Whatever his flaws, what surprised me against Frenkel was how up for it he was, how he was still aggressive despite several stoppage defeats. Not a hint of being gunshy or lacking confidence.Dioufy wrote:I usually like your opinion, but I think your wrong. If Enzo doesn't knock you out then he's ripe for the KO - he loses concentration, like against Frenel, like against Afolabi. Fights he was winning up until he "made a mistake" and walked onto shots. He did it against Swaby, too, IMO.terrdilk wrote:Enzo isnt retiring he is makeing the trip down the light heavy and is around 13 3 at the min an hasn't really tryed dieting hard! As for him being weak minded that's bullshit have a bit more respect
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Then we have different definitions of weak-minded. To you, which is the most weak-minded fighter you've seen?

I think the answer is obvious, no matter how you define it.Dioufy wrote:Then we have different definitions of weak-minded. To you, which is the most weak-minded fighter you've seen?
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
If a fighter doesn't keep his concentration in check and keeps on making the same "mistake" without actually correcting it then that to me is showing a weak-mind. There's a lot of chinny fighters out there who are successful because they keep their concentration in check for 12 rounds, not just the first few.
And more importantly, they learn from that "mistake."

I know exactly what you're getting at; I'm just not sure "weak-minded" is the apt description. That connotes a lack of fortitude or confidence.Dioufy wrote:If a fighter doesn't keep his concentration in check and keeps on making the same "mistake" without actually correcting it then that to me is showing a weak-mind. Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
When Enzo gets tired his head goes up in the air, he's a long tall fella with a long neck. If he's belted with a monster shot he's going to go. I've seen him lose 4 times inside the distance, twice by knockout (Afolabi, Frenkel), twice by stoppage (Haye, Lebedev). All 4 have hit him with some massive shots and Enxo belted them with some really hard punches. The 2 knockouts were bad to watch but Enzo is a real gunslinger; he comes to win and loves a knockout win. some of the earlier posts are very disrespectful and rude. The man has entertained us; when he's won he's not been over the top or slated his foe; and he's gone out on his shield when he's lost.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
I assume you're talking about me, Simon. I've not been disrespectful to him, I've just pointed out his flaws. I've said a few times that he's a nice guy but someone pointing out where they think they're going wrong is just life. It you've felt I've been rude then all I can say is you're been brought up in a bubble.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
It weren't really aimed at anyone to be honest just the general 'tone' of things if that makes sense.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Yeah, that makes sense, but I don't really sense a disrespectful tone at all. It's more constructive criticism. I am not an Enzo lover, in fact he made me sick at one point, but it's got the stage were I take no pleasure in seeing what is happening to him. It's time he hung them up and started remembering the good times, not trying to get them back. From what the perception of him was before the Haye fight to what it is now is vast, to say the least.simon fox wrote:It weren't really aimed at anyone to be honest just the general 'tone' of things if that makes sense.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
he's still young enough to have a lengthy lay off & maybe have a break from getting punched in the head. that would be nice.

Spot on lad...needs protecting from himself...Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:I hope it doesn't happen and i think at a time like this as much as it pains me to say it, FW needs to tell him he's not going to let him fight on his shows any more and then it'll be easier for the other promotors to turn Enzo away if he wants to fight for them (if that makes any sense at all)
People need to shut the door in his face now for his own good. i wish he had been losing every round against Frenkel and then at least Enzo could retire in peace but he was winning the fight until the stoppage and thats probably hard to deal with....
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
What is he going to achieve?
He is not going to win a World Title. He will beat up on some over matched Eastern Europeans or low level UK fighters and the moment he tries to step up again, he loses again.
Probably doing this for financial reasons, which is fair enough.

What are the chances of him facing Cleverly if he wins the WBO title?

Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
If he's serious then best of luck to him. I think he could still do okay on the domestic circuit if he can do the weight safely. Bellew aside, there aren't many big punchers domestically at lightheavy weight. In his defence the only guys who have ko'ed him have been seriously hard hitters. Haye, Frenkel and Lebedev have some serious knockout records. Maybe a couple of fights with the likes of Stubbs, Haymer or Ajisafe then a crack at the winner of the Bellew-Mckenzie rematch. Or even a fight with new European champion Danny McIntosh. That's a very winnable fight for Maccarinelli, albeit a dangerous one as Danny Mac can crack a bit.
Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
You'd have to think that Enzo would be a huge puncher at light heavyweight if nothing else and that alone makes him a threat. In theory he should also be able to take a shot better as the guys down there won't hit as hard.
The obvious problem he has in going down to light heavyweight is that draining so much weight his punch resistence may in reality be even more affected as his strength and stimina may be sapped. The other issue is that the guys at light heavy will be faster meaning he may be consistently beaten to the punch and given that his boxing skills are, in my view, pretty limited this could be a huge issue.

Haha I knew someone would bring that up. The Afolabi shot was a huge shot, he really poleaxed Enzo. Swaby....you got me there!orbtastic wrote:What about Olafabi and Swaby?black panther wrote:If he's serious then best of luck to him. Re: Will Enzo Maccarinelli Retire
Lebedev didn't knock him out either - He wasn't down, just beaten up and the ref stopped it with him on his feet.
He was down/hurt badly against Bruce Scott, from memory and in the first Hobson fight he was wobbled badly.
Swaby had him out, he beat the count but he was all over the shop and the stoppage was absolute the right decision.
He's apparently a nice guy but his style is one that tends to leave him open and he does put everything into his shots. I don't really see how losing 15-20lbs is going to help him.
