I tend to watch this fight next, as I had a big session of watching Thomas Hearns last night, and then got bored and watched some of Carl Froch's stuff when he was making his mark on the domestic scene at 12 stone.

hi bob, nice blog, my only quibble would be that I think you're under-rating Hearns' jab against Hill, somewhat.

Hill was probably throwing more jabs, and landing more in the rounds that he won

but as well as the right hand, the big difference I would say is that Hearns' jab was landing with huge, thudding, authoritative force. he was busting Hill's face up pretty good with it, even if he did need the right hand to really set himself apart from Hill in the scoring (especially bearing in mind Hearn's pretty patchy workrate throughout this fight)

the reason im mentioning hills jab so much is because of how good hearns jab is...hearns when he powers that jab is some sight...i just coulndt believe hill was out jabbing him in the rounds he won. Watching the hearns career set its apparent how good a jab hearns had but in most of his fights he could have made fights easier by using it more but as a total fighter tommy liked to get into wars.

a great great fighter

Hill didn't outjab Hearns. He got put on his ass with a jab from Tommy. That fight, imo, is a textbook in how to dominate a fight behind your jab.

in those first 5 rounds he did out jab tommy thats why he won those rounds but like a great champion tommy hearns turned it around by out jabbing the champion for the rest of the fight whilst land those big right hand bombs.
