FIGHT # 7 – 22:00 HRS Official Eliminator for The British Welterweight Championship
Hmmm. There was no mention of this on the last Board's circular on Feb 9th.
Strange...it's my understanding that they won't budge on the fight date for Groves v Degale yet they are prepared to be a bit flexible on other occasions...I think it's great that the Board are prepared to be flexible and hope it can be applied more often, 'if it's for the good of the sport'
Its a decent match Frankie - but you really ought to step up the competition after this one.
Your 25 after all....... you don't want to waste your peak years fighting domestic / european level fighters when you are possibly much better than that.
You surely speak to ex-fighters all the time mate, ask them when their prime was - if they are long time retired they will tell you around a 3year period when they felt unbeatable... don't waste that time Frankie.
After all - you sound like a bright lad.... you certainly know you won't get it back.
Horse, I think Nigel Wright is looking for a shot at a Lightweight title, but agree Nigel Wright shouldn't be overlooked, however, I can only see him putting up tricky resistance rather than a full bodied effort in the same way Williams would.

hatton never done things the easy way at british level ! thaxton, roland.....
Jessi, I accept that I'm on my own with that opinion, but from what I've seen, I haven't been overly impressed. His whole MO is not about being hit but I've seen him hit quite a few times, and he allows scrappy fighters to get close, and that's dangerous with headbutts - I don't know if Gavin's been cut by a headbutt yet, though. Gavin's also not going to be a big hitter, and couple that with his whole desire being questionable, at best, that's not the best mixture. A big puncher can get away with cutting corners, a stylist that will go 12 rounds a lot can't always do the same. Also, it's correct to know that I said people will be disappointed with him in the end because people have him already down as an all-time great and elite fight - I reckon he's going to win belts, perhaps even a world-title, but I don't think he'll become number one in his division, nevermind one of the best in the world. Therefore disappointing a lot of people.
JBacca, that's a very deceptive post. It insinuates that my skepticism towards Gavin is personal, which is incorrect. I got called lovely names by him because I constructively questioned him about his professional career. Again, another knock against him, IMO, that he takes criticism badly, and that ain't good.

He was fighting in 3 weeks so I expect at fit cook an his last fight he prepared for a southpaw so I will go out an do what I do Which I'm sure is enough
Cook was never going to be ready for you with a week's notice, Gavin.
To be fair; they're not fighting until this Saturday and Gavin didn't have so much more notice he'd be boxing Cook I'd imagine.
I'm not sure about his desire being in question.
You're not on your own about having some scepticism; some posters have decided Frankie Gavin is a shoo in for world domination; I'm not so sure. He is good but has not been at all tested against the best in Britain; James DeGale was in a similar spot 6 months ago; he is in a different place now but that is through his performances.
If he doesn't like criticism that can also be a good thing; Gavin was a brilliant amateur and won't be losing any sleep over what an internet poster says about him. He'll probably have a different attitude to constructive training or performance criticism from his trainer.
I've reserved my judgement about him; he's skilled but doesn't look strong and rugged enough for the top men over 12. In a year or so he may be a bit more rugged.

As a late replacement to the Bellew fight, undoubtedly yes.
It is a decent last minute replacement, but not worthy of topping a live tv bill.
If someone at Sky had a pair of balls, they'd have fcked this one off and put the Hennessey show on on Saturday. 4 quality, evenly matched fights (on paper anyway) as opposed to one at York Hall.
Which one is the good fight at York Hall,Gavin's or Big Larry's?I am interested in both.
Not that it matters now, but for the record i was refering to the heavyweights. Big fan of Frankie but i really thought it was a formality for him, not what you wanna see topping a bill.

i can see where your coming from but being a world champion and still being dissapointed is abit of a contradiction, i dont think anyone will be dissapointed with frankie being a world champion, himself included !

i disagree, if frankie can fight 4 times this year and hold the british title, and fight 4 times next year and hold the european title that will take him to 16 fights and be european champion by the age of 27, he would then get himself into the world top ten and be fighting for world titles in 2013 at around 28 years old, i think thats perfect timing for a pro with such a good amateur pedigree, i think gavin will peak between 28 and 32 years old, theres loads of time trust me !
This does sort of highlight why I think Steve Williams would be better than Cook, because his dedication is still burning strong where as Cooks is on the wane and has been for a while.

Still sorry to see the fight's been cancelled.
for this fight to happen it would have to either a british title eliminator or for the british title itself imo butch
