Do prospects get protected too much in boxing generally?

This goes into one of my other posts, I really think a journeyman & a bum are two completely different things. On the frank malony thread people were slagging these boys that go over soon as they take one clean shot. Imo they are the ones that run the risk of being called a bum. A journeyman boxes every other week against up & coming boxers still holding their o, maybe I have rose tinted glasses on but a genuine journeyman brings much to our sport . I only really post on things I think I can talk about with an in depth knowledge , & when it comes to this subject I forgot more than most know

Johnny your a good journeymen,whos well known in the boxing circles(people who follow the game) i dont mean to speak out of turn,but why dont you say to yourself f*ck this im go give it me best&all&see what i can do in a year&see where you get mate?..Im sure if you put all in you will beat many who have beat you...

Tommy; do you think his employers (the promoters) will keep ihim in in work if he knocks the next great flying machine off course?

I've read loads of your posts before and have proper agreed with you; don't you think that Johnny has weighed the idea up himself and made a realistic decision?

I knew my level before going over mate. Plus I never sold I ticket. If I win a few on the trot I won't fight. I know I've won a lot more than I've been given but I would have never made the top. It's all about money if you want to win regular & get up to title level. I've done a hell of a lot more as a journeyman than I would building meself up. Boxed in front of thousands on massive shows & am proud to be regarded as a top opponent.

I really hate that "I fought and you haven't" attitude. Are you saying that people who HAVEN'T fought don't have valid opinions? If so, then come out and say it instead of hiding behind a smokescreen, shitty response. I have boxed but I would NEVER discredit someone's opinion because they haven't.

It baffles me it does, it like saying you can't criticise Lewis Hamilton because you've never driven a Formula 1 car or you can't criticise Andy McNab because you've never been in the SAS. DD

I think you're spot on there... theres a difference between someone who is tricky, hard to hit, gives some good rounds of experience... and someone who eats a lot of shots or falls over quickly. Its like the difference between working a heavy bag or a floor-to-ceiling, any idiot can do the first one but to get the benefit of the second is harder.

As an aside Johnny, did you ever spar go to someone in the Peacock, you wearing 10oz gloves? Just something that was mentioned to me.

Erm, I don't really spar mate. I talk & get on with everyone there . I may have moved around with people that asked or offered to help boys with a real light move around but never go out to take liberties . I box too often to spar heavily. I won't learn much more , id just be taking shots I don't need to be taking. Would love to know where you heard this story to be honest. I really have never took a liberty in my life when it comes to sparring . Hand on heart

To be honest si , some hecklers really do make me chuckle. Others take it too far. On the whole it don't bother me at all

Someone I know, a big lump but hard to hit, was going to jump in with a John (we'd been discussing your interview in BM, which brought on the anecdote) and he said that the John in question wanted to spar in 10oz gloves, and my acquaintance replied that in case he'd stick with the 16oz but wouldn't hold back as he normally would, which the John in question took umbrage at. As you say, a different John. My acquaintance didn't think it was you but it piqued my curiosity so thought I would ask.
