Memory time chaps!

Post by m1kee50 »

Whens the last time a proper name fighter - by which i guess i mean someone who isnt expected to fight every two or three weeks, not neccesarily a title holder, stepped into replace someone else, after winning the previous fight only a short while before?

in a different context was when lewis fought klitschko, both were scheduled to have other opponents on the same bill.

Did Jason booth not step in(and up) for someone at short notice when he fought for the British super bantam title against Mark Moran i think. Maybe stepping in for matthew Marsh?

Excellent. I knew watching endless hours of boxing would pay off one day. :OhYes:

Yep spot on Booth was on his way down from Bantam to Super Fly weight fight Lee Haskins then that fell through so he stepped up to Super Bantam to fight Moran.. Also i was ment to be figting Booth for the British Title 10 days before the fight i had to pull out and vacted the Title so Napa and Booth could top the Bill, Napa beat him with less then 2 weeks notice...

One of the most famous examples would be Azumah Nelson stepping in as a late substitute for Juan Laporte and taking Salvador Sanchez into the 15th round of a Madison Square Garden classic.
Britain's Cornelius Boza-Edwards also made a big impact at short notice against Alexis Arguello.

When someone says last minute sub I always think of two people:

Bert Cooper against Holyfield
Tim Tomasheck against Tommy Morrison, who depending on whom you believe, was or wasn't the replacement - In any case he was in the crowd, tucking into pretzel and sucking down a beer.

As did Willie Casey, he was a very late replacement for Wayne McCullough.
