People go on about the fight in the US but I don't think that was too bad - he simply got hit off balance. Also, the shot that knocked Groves down was kinda big, so to say he's chinny as of yet is impossible. You'll need to give him a few more years before you can make an educated call on that.

No, if Amir Khan can improve his resistance and his reactions toward hard shots then so can George.

Khan cannot be labelled 'chinny' after Maidana and Groves will show his strength after losing (on his feet) to DeGale and then going on to better things.

not at all! degale isn't a puncher anyway so that's not a worry for groves if that fight does go ahead.

The vast majority of fighters who show chin problems at one stage of their career do not improve their punch resistance a great deal. To say Groves can do it just because Khan can is inaccurate. Also, let's not forget Khan was still badly hurt in that bout. I think people might be prematurely assuming Khan has overcome a career long problem based on one performance. I would not be very surprised if there is a recrudescence of his glassed jawed tendencies in the future.

Agreed.

Amir was out on his feet, it was sheer willpower and fitess that kept him up, not punch resistance.

Khan was on queer street but was not out on his feet and willpower and fitness alone will not keep you upright when a known hitter is cracking straight on the jaw.

One thing i would say about anderson is when i was watching him against groves and groves was hitting him with very powerful shots they just seemed to be bouncing off his head like he was some robot!Ha

The sheer number of uppercuts he took was enough to convince me he's not anywhere near as chinny at 140. Will he get knocked out again in his career? Possibly if he climbs the weights but he's solid enough for 140 I think.

you say the anderson punch was big the punch that knocked khan out was an absolute sledge hammer shot yet uve all called him chinny for the last 2 years

Everyone called Khan chinny for the last 2 years before the Maidana fight. Khan did get knocked out by a HUGE punch, but he was also hurt from not so big shots, against smaller men. Do you forget the Limond fight, or the Gomez fight, where he was hurt twice from a much faded fighter?

Of course, you're now wise after the event.

Kenny is a decent, strong operator.

Froch told me about their sparring. Said he wasn't exceptionally fast or technical - but a harder task than meets the eye and quite difficult to catch cleanly.

He rated him and said he was a sound bloke.

When I asked who he fancied between Groves and Anderson he said he genuinely didn't know - that they were both different in their approach and could go one way or the other.

It almost did go Anderson's way at one point, but credit to Groves he weathered the difficult spells and got Anderson out of there.

It's a great win for Groves whichever way you cut it and shows he does have ability.

Too many write Groves off, and yes the criticsm from his performance needs to be taken on board - but it's a great win regardless as Kenny is v.good and will likely capture belts in due course too himself.

Yeah i agree, anderson looks like a very durable and strong kind of guy who just keeps ploughing forward! In the interviews ive seen him in aswell he seems like a nice enough fella although the attempted murder charge he was on was a little disturbing!Ha

It were some nightmare who bullyied people left and right with a gang apparently; stabbing people etc and scaring people to death; there were a few who felt that Anderson had done the right thing, by all accounts

If you google it you'll get more of the story; am sure there was a thread on here at one time as well. There were people who really knew the ins and outs and it looked like it were a no win scenario for Anderson; he had to act, did, there were repercusions on his best mate and he did the best thing.

Most referees would of actually stopped the fight when khan was badly hurt, so if the had of stopped the fight then everyone would of said khans chin hasn't improved whatsoever.
