Has he bottled it or does he not want to be Warren's sacrificial lamb.

Fair enough on Mitchell's behalf he is entitled to a fairly easy way back in, but IMO no matter how much time to recover he has Murray will always be too much for him. You got to feel for John Murray though!

I 've read that Gavin Rees may be on the cards for Murray. For me that's every bit as good, if not better than Mitchell as Rees is better imo

It'd be some fight. I'd strongly fancy Murray to perform a Katsidis style job on him though.

PMSL!

Bet AAA passes on the fight as well if offered it. Can kind of see where Mitchell is coming from, if he loses his career is over.

lol! Gotta agree with Trojans44 also Mitchell would get battered if he faced Murray, Mitchell really needs to drop back down to super feather, he's not big enough for lightweight, I could see Rees beating Mitchell too and even Crolla based on his last performance. Murray-Rees should be a classic though.

Although I did read somewhere (possibly BN) that Mitchell said he fancied a fight with Murray, stating he thought it would be a good match but ultimately, Murray wasn't in his league.

Mind you, he said he would KO Katsides, too.

I do think Mitchell is very overrated, good boxer, world class? No.

Murray would grind him down and stop him, imo.

I agree.

I dont believe Murray has the punch power to make it all the way to the top, although Warren is good at finding the 'right' opponent, at the right time.

Winning a World title and being world class are two different things, nowadays.

Personally I think it's Mitchell playing sensible and not wanting to be Warren's sacrificial lamb. I get the feeling Warren was VERY pissed off with Mitchell over the Katsidis performance and his antics with hs missus and all the associated excuses that came out. I think he is now kind of saying to Mitchell, here have a sink or swim fight. I don't blame Mitchell though for saying 'no way jose!' and taking a softer comeback, if it was my career or I was his advisor I would do the same, I think he has made a smart move.

is it "sensible" of mitchell to turn this fight down, at least for the moment?

surely this is a way back for kevin, in a big domestic showdown that people actually want to watch.

it's an opportunity, is a way of looking at it. after being squashed by katsidis, after having so much in terms of opportunity (prescott, katsidis), surely he's fortunate to be handed this fight.

so will it be rees for murray? i though rees was shooting for crolla. obviously it's better for rees to gun for the european, rather than domestic, title.

i wonder if this could cause something liek crolla v buckland at lightweight. buckland having won prize fighter and stopped sykes, and crolla holding the british lightweight crown...

Warren needs to come up with a bloody good replacement now Mitchell has declined. Rees is a good match if it can be made, but won't set the world on fire as Murray-Mitchell would have done.

Maybe Warren can convince Murray to vacate the European title and box for a WBU title instead!

Was amazed when I heard Murray-Mitchell had been made and did sound like Warren had given up on Mitchell, all this talk of him losing the plot with the booze post-Katsidis, wonder if he has gone from hot to shot overnight.

So much of a boxing career is about timing and this was hugely wrong for Mitchell, I wouldn't have been surprised to see him get taken in 6/7 rounds and look awful.

He needs to sort his shit out and come back with 1 or 2 more winnable fights before climbing back into the top flight saddle.

Give Mitchell his dues I'd say he's been in with better than anyone Murray has fought and he had a bad prep against a good fighter in Katsidis ( who would likely wear down Murray aswell).

This would be a great fight and I think it will happen later this year, Mitchell deserves a chance to put things right and get his head straight in a tune up before going in with Murray.

Rees and these two need to get some fights together and give us loads to look forward to. Sooner or later these fights have to happen
