David Haye: “Two More Fights And That’s It”
By James Slater:
David Haye has again made it clear he WILL retire in October of this year and, while talking with Sky Sports News today, the WBA heavyweight champ has outlined the two fights he hopes to have before hanging up his gloves. Whether or not Haye’s retirement promise is a bluff intended to allow himself better negotiations for a Klitschko fight, we don’t know (some experts are convinced Haye, with potentially millions of pounds to be earned in 2012, 2013, and so on, will not retire. Others believe his promise).
But whatever the case, Haye has outlined his scheduled two-fights-and-then-out plan to Sky.
“In an ideal world and if I could get my crystal ball and change people’s opinions and minds and get Wladimir’s people to do what I want them to do, it would be Wladimir in the summer and then Vitali in the September or October,” Haye said. “ But we don’t live in an ideal world. In a realistic world I fight a mandatory challenger, whether that be [Ruslan] Chagaev or [Alexander] Povetkin, we are working on that at the moment. I can’t give you an answer at the moment as I don’t know myself.
“After that there will be a fight in September or October, against Wladimir hopefully. If he wants to do it, I’m ready to do it. Let’s get the fight on. It will be me knocking him out and taking his belts and then giving them back. There will be two more fights and that’s it.”
Fans will immediately see the problem with Haye’s “realistic” plan. The May mandatory against either Chagaev or Povetkin (likely to be Povetkin according to sources) is fine, but, as we all know, Wladimir is all but set to face Poland’s Tomasz Adamek in September, in that huge 60,000 capacity stadium. This, I fear, will prove to be a sticking point. Should Klitschko be expected to walk away from the Adamek fight so as to take care of Haye? If the Ring Magazine, IBF,WBO and IBO king opts not to do so, then Haye will not likely get a date with “Dr. Steel Hammer” this year, and will either make good with his retirement promise or not.
But why can’t Haye fight Vitali in his final bout? Assuming Vitali gets past Unbeaten Cuban Odlanier Solis in March, “Dr. Iron Fist” would, I’m sure, be willing to fight Haye (if, of course, Haye has gotten past either Chagaev or Povetkin in the meantime).
Haye sounds genuine in his “two more and that’s it” statement. Can we at least see him face one Klitschko before he walks away? Will Haye entertain the idea of going in with the rock-chinned, not at all vulnerable 39-year-old, though?

Fair play to him,I didn't think he'd retire in October but after watching ringside I think he's extremely focused on his life after boxing and sort of wants to get out asap,he can't be critised for that IMO,he's only a small heavy and if he stayed around long enough for his legs to slow down he could end up seriously hurt.
Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
once haye gets beat he'll retire & i think once he step's up he'll be exposed. if he's undefeated in october with no klit bash he wont retire guaranteed :!: & if the klit fight comes off he'll be walking into the sunset with a sh1t load of readies.
fair play to him he's been a complete salesman & has played the buisness & wants out with faculties in tact & balance fatter then fat.you have to admire/envy that

In my opinion, he can be criticized for it. If he retires at 31 it will be ridiculous.Andypittcov wrote:I didn't think he'd retire in October but after watching ringside I think he's extremely focused on his life after boxing and sort of wants to get out asap,he can't be critised for that IMO,

From a purely boxing perspective then I can see where your coming from but I personally cannot criticise a man that's decided he doesn't need to get punched in the head for his money anymore,I'm sure he's thinking about his health and his family and knows there's other avenues to earn,he obviously sees the movies as an exciting option.Horse wrote:In my opinion, he can be criticized for it. Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
If people are serious about wanting to see him stay on - don't buy a Haye fight unless its a Klitschko. Spread that word far and wide, try and minimise his earnings against any other fighter.

Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
Haye's a businessman first boxer second and byaatch third.
We are disagreeing which order the above applies to (that's my perspective)
Two more fights or 10 more fights all that matters is the Klitschkos are bigger and better than Haye and dont need his money or his idle threats.

Self belief gets you a long way whether it's warranted or not,and like the other bloke said yeah he is a businessman first and most boxers seem to be thinking like that.hurlock wrote:he just seem's to think he's set for stardom coz he has a strap.Andypittcov wrote:TBH mate the point isn't whether or not haye can act,my point is if he wants to act instead of fight good luck to him.hurlock wrote:but haye aint known???

He may well retire in October, but will he stay retired?
Come 2012 and every focus of the papers will be on the Olympics, Haye if retired will be somewhat yesterdays news. Will he enjoy not being the focus?

Too right mate De La Hoya was bigging Haye up saying how great he is at showmanship and selling tickets and Hype and thats a big accolade. Haye isn't all that he cares more about the money than the sport and that is bad for boxing.
Just watched Bowe Holyfield 1 round 10 on youtube and youd think its a totally different sport now from back then when belts MEANT SOMETHING!!!

Exactly, haye himself said he's too soft for the Ali Frazier Era,what he meant was that besides them guys being much better, they were also prepared to die in the ring and he just ain't got that mentality.

Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
off topic point but aint it a bit obvious that dwain "The rock" johnson is at least going to have some acting skill , hes part of WWE for starters , which IS acting , what he was good at wasnt his wrestling it was his ability and charisma once he had a mic in his hand , maybe looking at it that was Haye may have a chance in the movies of making himself a name , id suggest he geta couple of cameo roles such as walking into the Rovers or Queen Vic etc just to get his foot in the door .kingfinn wrote:T obe fair the rock is pretty good, have you not seen the game plan?Andypittcov wrote:Could Vinnie jones or dwain Johnson?Horse wrote:Can Haye act?
As for the Klitshckos , i dont think he will ever fight them , i dont believe haye nor the K brothers want it or feel they need it more than the other does , its all about ego's
Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
How can anyone take Haye's word as gospel? He agreed 2 fights with the Klitschkos only to back out, once through "injury" and the second time due to "money". He said he could no longer make cruiserweight and was moving up to heavyweight, then fought Maccarinelli and afterwards took pleasure in mocking those who bought he was dead at cruiser.

Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
I'm a Big Haye fan- and I hate to say this, but his foray into heavyweight boxing really has no value historically. If he's not going to fight the Klitchko brothers he may as well retire now with his cruiserweight legacy intact and all his faculties.
Great shame- most thought he'd be the man to rekindle interest in heavyweight boxing- but the reality is its not going to happen. Even if the two fights were with the Klitchko's and he beat them both- he retires and where does that leave us?
Congrats to Haye for what he HAS done, which has being hugely impressive and history will be kind- but if your going to retire without fighting the Klitchko's save us the two walk out bouts and let us try and find a fighter who IS interested in achieveing heavyweight greatness-

Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
Dwain Johnson will always get gigs due to him having been in the entertainment business for years, he's not a great actor by any means but neither were the likes of Arnie, Van Damme or Seagal.Andypittcov wrote:Could Vinnie jones or dwain Johnson?Horse wrote:Can Haye act?Andypittcov wrote:From a purely boxing perspective then I can see where your coming from but I personally cannot criticise a man that's decided he doesn't need to get punched in the head for his money anymore,I'm sure he's thinking about his health and his family and knows there's other avenues to earn,he obviously sees the movies as an exciting option.
Vinnie Jones can't act for toffee, he is dreadful, I don't think he's even been in anything significant since X-men 3 and that wasn't a massive role, neither are most of his other roles for that matter, he's just a henchman type who stands there and looks mean.
Haye would probably go down the same route as Vinnie Jones if he turned to acting and he probably isn't as well known as Jones was either, he's certainly not as well known as The Rock for sure.
Re: Haye: Two more fights and thats it !
What if his heart isn't in the sport? When people start talking about retirement you can be pretty sure their mind isn't on the job at hand and if that's the case then he should quit.Horse wrote:In my opinion, he can be criticized for it.
