Billy nelson's latest signing
Billy nelson's latest signing
He hasn't signed a boxer but I think that he has made a very shrewd move in securing the services of Colin McNeil as chief second and trainer.
Colin won loads of medals and international caps as an amateur and was a good pro winning Scottish and Celtic titles.
brilliant move by Billy, he's smarter than I thought, ha ha

Good article about Arthur's foibles - well documented over the past 7 or 8 years but not really noticed by the public until he was on the way down.
Boxing is all about timing and Burns (and even Simpson with that many losses) are rated by many in British boxing. But better being lucky than good and good matchmaking is always better than good boxing skills.

Would you have matched Burns with Martinez? Would you have matched Simpson away to Martin give the boys credit, there was nothing lucky about either win ability and the will to win got them there,It must burst a few arses in England that burns is a world champion eh?ThereByTheGrace wrote:Good article about Arthur's foibles - well documented over the past 7 or 8 years but not really noticed by the public until he was on the way down.

Im no English Billy - Im Scottish - both are good lads but the era before them ie Harrison and Arthur in their pomps would have beaten both - its all about timing and matchmaking and Harrison had much more competitive contenders at world level than Burns has had (and likely will have) and Burns has a good chance at being multiple champ ....go figure. So I would say it is part luck.billy nelson wrote:Would you have matched Burns with Martinez? Great champions are judged by how they come back and we'll see how good Martinez is if he can come back at a reasonable level (or he could be another Jeff Lacy), fair play to Simpson for his battling qualities also.
Best of luck Billy, and cheers for being so forthcoming and interactive on the forum - it adds a new dimension to the chat for sure.

Re: Billy nelson's latest signing
Sorry if i came across abrupt mate .I trained Scott his full pro career with his dad and i can assure you Scott never faced anyone with the power Martinez had ,Scott or Roman would have been KO'D imo if they fought each other.Alex arthur isnt in Harrisons class and the record books will always tell you so .But i know for a fact Ricky would have been a total nightmare for Scott with his superior speed and movement, yes diffrent fighter but both excellent at what they do and not forgetting Ricky's not peaked yet. And if today's Burns were to fight Arthur when they did Arthur would have been well beaten.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Im no English Billy - Im Scottish - both are good lads but the era before them ie Harrison and Arthur in their pomps would have beaten both - its all about timing and matchmaking and Harrison had much more competitive contenders at world level than Burns has had (and likely will have) and Burns has a good chance at being multiple champ ....go figure. Re: Billy nelson's latest signing
Ok Cheers Billy for coming back so quick.
Aye it wouldve been an interesting all Scottish affair if Harrison fought Burns and/or Arthur. I always thought Harrison was the toughest fighter up here, a real bully in the ring with his strength still cant believe he could make the weight for so long.
But it's all what if's now I guess; Scottish boxing has produced better boxers in the past 10 or 15 years on average on proportion than the rest of the UK I would say. Harrison, McNeil, Docherty, Burns, Morrison, Simpson, Limond, McPake, Arthur and a few others I know ive missed.
Best of luck with the Gym and hopefully keeps us talking for years tae come!
