Mate, a few people held that opinion.

Feel sorry for him. Didn't know what to do when buckled.

With time, I think he'll make a great opponent for the top heavyweights in the British scene. Hopefully he sticks with it and doesn't let this faze him.

Well the reason i held that feeling was he wasnt technical enough,he was relying on raw strength and power too much you know. The boxing skills arent good enough at the mo,he needs to work on improving as a boxer. If he does that then he could still go on to win a british title.

You know what. I could've pictured Larry winning early by stoppage but john was always the more seasoned boxer. A few picked Larry on points . Now Larry is a good guy so I ain't digging , but john was always going too be too good a boxer . He just did not know what to do when tagged . Shame for him but, johns a nice bloke & deserved some good fortune . Fair play! Don't look the best specimen, but he can fight

all larry needs is tough men that dont punch and will take him the distance give him 5 or 6 of them he'll be ready for the british title

BIGMARK wrote:i feel sad for larry as even in his worst nightmares he wouldnt of thought the fight was going to end like that. The big man has shown plenty of improvement since his first loss but seem to throw everything he had learnt to one side in a attempt to get an early KO. Of course this has worked at a lower level but Big John has always been very under rated in my book and Larry played straight into his hands. i was shocked with the way he came out the blocks straight at McDermott when i had thought he would of started at a slower pace to have a look at John. A hard lesson has been learnt the painful way and lets hope it doesnt put the big man off as he can still come back and has plenty to still offer the sport.

i agree mate as long as yo learn from a defeat it don't matter to much

Larry is a huge imposing guy but can he box?
I myself have never been convinced.
Most of his opponents have folded without much of a fight and tonight he got in with a guy that could really box and he got done in a round.
There may be a future for larry in the sport but he will get found out when he faces somebody with ambition and/or experiance.
As the saying goes ''you can't put muscles on your chin''.

well i guess they were both cold it was within 2 mins!! he came out banging, guard was open, and got punched by a good fighter right on the chin. His legs went, to be fair he showed good heart by getting back to his feet twice but the ref was 100% right to stop the fight. Beaten by a better skilled fighter on the night. My view anyway

hard to say really. I mean if he had lost in a better fashion he could have got some good PR from a tough fight with a tough fighter. I think he himself knows his limitations better than us, but its definately back to the drawing board!!

A surprise.

It seems Larry was a little too open. Whether he was looking for a KO or was just cold, only Larry can answer.

John looked fast and was accurate, he caught Larry good and the ref was correct to stop it, it can happen.

Its abit worrying though that it only took one power shot of mcdermotts to do that though! When fury fought mcdermott he was getting caught with shots but they wernt hurting him like that.

Going with Warren hasn't hurt other people has it?

Frank Maloney says in another thread that fight was getting made when Larry was with him, so its not as if Warren was alone in thinking it was doable. I don't see it as Larry getting thrown to the wolves, although I was massively surprised by the outcome, I thought McDermott would try to outlast Larry, not fight fire with fire as he did.

Whether this shows Larry's level or if it is just one of those things, remains to be seen - it certainly hasn't done McDermotts rep on here any harm that he was sparked by Skelton earlier in his career, at 32 Larry has plenty of time as a Heavy to regroup, and as people have said, he is a nice bloke, as is John, and I hope they both have plenty of future luck.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him in with the likes of Fury, Towers, Dallas or Price after maybe a comeback fight or two.

I've not seen Towers fight, but I would be surprised to see him fight Fury or Price really. Dallas perhaps, but IMO it will be a year, and 3-4 fights, before we see him in for a title.

I can see Warren giving him a sink or swim fight against one of the names I mentioned.

They aren't Warrens to give though are they?

he could, in which case if its sink, Larry could well retire/leave Warren... IMO thats tantamount to saying he has found his level and no more will be got from him.
