Did anyone see that first jab he landed, he was miles away, hit Me strait on the button. Couldn't believe he hit me from there, lol. I really tried to make a fight , couldn't get close tho. Skeete is a real nice boy , good luck too him. I cried a bit when I got home , there really was not much I could've done. My pride is rock bottom, but I really will keep going!

he was too big for you, end of really.

funny how you mentioned on the other thread about a promoter turning you down as he wanted a nailed on stoppage, i thought watching that that Frank wanted a stoppage for Skeete by putting him in with someone smaller on purpose. No weigh in or height available for Skeete but he looks a light-middle in the making at least and you aren't the biggest bloke out there.

Yeh Matt , but no one forced me to fight. Had 3 other jobs went belly up & listened to people saying he couldn't punch. Thought I could mess my way thru , I took the risk & it never paid off. Don't think frank purposely wanted me to get smashed . I'm the one responsible . Silly for listening to people saying he can't hit. He's the only one to bash me in that way & I felt good before so , fair play

didnt mean that youd been set up John, just seemed ironic. Skeete was in the 2009 ABA final's wasnt he?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but with that size difference, Skeete was always going to be able to sit down on his shots a bit more, and having that reach on you as well... you should have tried sitting on his chest mate, all them long arms wont do him no good then

When he connected with the jab it just looked like you had a wee stumble but looking back at it from different cameras it is a cracking jab. That boy looked really awkward to box, used his jab well and even when he did get in close looked comfy. Like how you actully have a go and let your hands go. Only saw u once aginst Ormand so try get bk up north mate. Enjoy

Just give away too much size mate. He would have beat me at any weight , but yes , after that first jab landed, I knew he were too big & strong. Ha, he looked miles away so I was surprised by his range. I really did try my best, watching on tv, he landed flush & often. The ref made a good call. Frank was gonna throw the towel. One or two said I should think hard about the future but I don't agree. I've got plenty of life at the right weight. Too good & far to big. Simple!

i agree , Skeete looks like he's going to go on and have a really decent career, and to step up in weight against a class act and show that much heart is nothing at all to be ashamed of.

he'll do a lot worse to a lot of fighters if that performance was anything to go by. we'll be seeing and enjoying you again in 5 weeks or so Johnny.

I expect a call up from the board mate . But yes I will go back to the gym this week & hopefully get back ASAP to get over the emotional scars. Maybe I should pick and chose more carefully who I face for a while but I'm still in love with my job & will look to get back going the distance , who knows even winning a few, lol

Johnny, do you get many calls to come over to Ireland to fight? I know you were over to fight Oisin and Gavin Prunty in the past. Some of the boxers the Irish promoters get in to fight the "prospects" are really poor, usually Eastern European.

The thing is, on the Ireland thing, don't think they can pay the money , I'm only in against up & comers & I need hotel, flights and half decent money. I would go anywhere in the world if worth while to me and kids. I know this sounds shite but a couple of the guys saying about my future are very important for me too not upset & for me to pass names ain't on, sorry lads .

What emotional scars, fella? You went out on your feet and shield - that's all fans ask for. The kid looked to have big potential, there shouldn't be any hurt pride. Every time you step through the ropes, you're achieving what many would love to, and most importantly, you're giving it your all.

Pick yourself up man. :TU:

Johnny,

Forgive me but i've never heard of you until recently and didn't catch the fight last night. I've just checked your record on here of 3-61.

I'm quite intrigued by you having read the comments. For those of us that don't know much about you, can you provide us as to some background? When did you start boxing? Do you have an amatuer career? How do you feel going to into bouts knowing you're likely to lose? Don't you get frustrated by it? How did it feel when you got your only knockout to date?

Best of luck for the future!

If your interested mate,I had 30 odd am bouts, done ok, then boxed unlicensed 50 times. 1 cage 1 k1 fight. Turned pro as journeyman from fight no 1 just because I wad a fan & wanted to earn doing a job I enjoyed . Get a buzz testing myself ! If you want specifics send a pm with your number & I'll talk you thru. There's probably a book in me when I knock it on the head, ha ha .

I was there Johnny and half of me knew what was coming when you stepped into the ring, he looked way too big for you.

You showed plenty of stones in there and shouldn't be pulled by the board for anything, other than fighting a man probably a stone heavier.

One thing that must be weird johnny is that in a way every fight you go into you have to have the mentality of losing because if you win you wont get anymore jobs!Is that a weird thing to deal with?

I don't necessarily go to lose, thing is, or things . On the big shows the lads I've boxed are just very good. On the small hall showdown I'm in with the ticket seller which means the ones you nick you don't get, I could still do super feather with a few weeks so I'm not the biggest bloke in the world . I'm not a banger so I ain't knocking lads out . Also you only normally get a couple of days to prepare so although I don't go to lose things are heavily on the other guys side . I must be Fucked up coz I really enjoy it. Nothing compares to getting stick from hundreds & putting on a show

Well it wasnt a criticism mate but obviously in most circumstances as a sportsman you're going out to win whereas as a journeyman your job is to test these guys but not beat them or it would screw up your career!

Lefty your a gent so no offence taken. I knew when I started wins wouldn't help me get work. It's just normal for me now , no one has ever done me favours , especially with scoring so I just enjoy being johnny Greaves. That sounds weird I know but what I mean is, I'm a different guy outside of boxing. Johnny Greaves is a showman , tuff & don't give a fornicate . I'm altogether different. Sensitive, caring & most of all polite
