Gavin vs lomax
Re: Gavin vs lomax
Frankie is impressive more and more each time I see him - but Lomax is kind of proven, and he is proven somewhat below British title level. I don't think we learned anything new, but a good pay day none the less.
Think Gavin is ready for Theophane, Lynes at Welter aint a bad fight also.

Completely agree, Matt.MatthewS wrote:allow me a little licence lol... depends who the titlist is... didnt beat Daws, wouldnt beat Theophane IMO, Lynes maybe if not at his best... at the finish of it, anyone has a chance against anyone else but the chances of him getting past Gavin are smaller than they would be for other fighters.jBacca wrote:It's only one person who think Williams will win.MatthewS wrote:lost to Lenny Daws, thats pretty much the highlight. Now touted as the man to beat Gavin by some... Maybe they should look at how he does against people nearer Gavins level... the only other decent fighter he has faced is Michael Grant, thats not sufficient experience for Gavin IMO...
He could potentially claim the British, but I feel Williams is just below it.
Who knows though, Williams has changed camp and looked to be putting more weight into his shots in his last fight, than I've ever seen before. Could be in some close fights with the likes of Daws and Lynes.
Re: Gavin vs lomax
the Daws fight was close, but can only go off the fact that at that time, he had a crack at the belt and lost.jBacca wrote:Completely agree, Matt.MatthewS wrote:allow me a little licence lol... depends who the titlist is... didnt beat Daws, wouldnt beat Theophane IMO, Lynes maybe if not at his best... at the finish of it, anyone has a chance against anyone else but the chances of him getting past Gavin are smaller than they would be for other fighters.jBacca wrote: It's only one person who think Williams will win.

Re: Gavin vs lomax
best performance I've seen from Frankie, showed he's got gears to go through - still looked so fresh at the end and like he could have fought for the championship distance and beyond. Didn't slow down at all. Very impressive. First time I've been convinced by all the talk...
Re: Gavin vs lomax
he's definatley got the tools and the class to be world class - he seemed almost impossible to hit. He creates angles, switches stance, throws a vast range of shots, he's also got great hand speed and reflexes - if his power develops even further i think we will be guaranteed a top flight world champion.

Re: Gavin vs lomax
in DeGale and Gavin we've got 2 genuine operators coming through and Froch and Khan already up there, Haye arguably but i'm still feeling let down by the Klit saga.
To be fair Bomber's been saying this all along about Frankie and last night he just showed the full range, think he can move fast through the gears. Good to see him being respectful of Khan and McCloskey in what he said in his interview too. He knows his time will come rather than start calling them out now. Terrific performance.
Think talentwise He and DeGale have that bit more "x factor" than Clev, Brook, Murray - but would love to be proved wrong by seeing them show that range of talent in their upcoming fights. Braehmer could be transforming fight for Clev and Brook needs to step up, as does Murray. Real shame about Mitchell that had the makings of a classic. Bomber's a bit cruder but a great character, great to watch but for me it's Frankie and DeGale that can go on and be the real stars of the new crop.

Its good times for the sport in the UK thats for sure.... there's the likes of Saunders, Jeffries, Groves etc possibly a little down on Degale and Gavin - but very good lads. You also have the "unsung" world champions, or world class fighters like - Burns, Munroe, McDonnell etc - who could strike lucky with some nice matchmaking.goldenears wrote:in DeGale and Gavin we've got 2 genuine operators coming through and Froch and Khan already up there, Haye arguably but i'm still feeling let down by the Klit saga.

So many European champions, Macklin, Barker, Hatton, Foster Jnr, Magee, Casey, McIntosh etc - world honours might be beyond them - but lets again not out of the mix of getting title shots.

waterboy im very confident of williams beating gavin,i like williams style and the fact he has moved through the light welter rankings very quick,he has never dodged a challenge,he could of said when offered the daws fight "no im not ready yet" like a few of the boxers out there with records as padded as a physco's cell,he has been threw in fights by TG early in make or break fights and came through with flying colours he got threw into a tough fight in his first against a tough opponent in sweeney he then got TG boy stuart green then got handed another make or break fight in hickmans comeback fight, many thought williams was out of his depth and williams stopped him in 2 rounds then gets desy higginson and stops him in 4 rounds. he then gets a polish lad who would give many in britain a hard time at lw and ste gave him a boxing lesson,my point is he has jumped up levels quicker than any fw fighter and the reaon is fw fighters get protected to death. answer this question would fw put gavin or khan (at the time) in tough fights like williams has been put in? i very much doubt it. write steve williams off at your peril boys but id be as confident as saying williams has the ptential to stop gavin or any lw in the countryWATERBOY wrote:So do you still believe Williams will beat Gavin? daws was dead on his feet at the end of the 10th watch the fight again and see were the cuts came from and what mccracken was saying at the end of the tenth before they realised williams corner and TG (not williams himself) pulled him out of the fight were i thought they should of let it go the last 2 rounds. i had williams winning the first 4 rounds then in the 5th got cut by daws head daws then won the next 5 rounds with williams winning the tenth which made it a draw on my cards with 2 rounds to go,williams would of won the last 2 rounds imo and took the british title

I watched the fight, mate and thought Daws was winning easily. There is no point arguing about it because you are obviously a massive Williams fan.Good luck for the future.

Re: Gavin vs lomax
im not arguing mickey just debating, boxing is all about opinions and when you get a load of boxers on a forum there is no way everyone will agree with everyone cause everyone has different things they like in a boxer, daws was dead on his feet that night and the heat was getting to him he said this in an article in a london paper the next day sayiong "i was glad they pulled steve williams out because the heat was getting unbearable" but i know ste was getting stronger and moving into a controlled position in that fightmickey1975 wrote:I watched the fight, mate and thought Daws was winning easily. There is no point arguing about it because you are obviously a massive Williams fan.Good luck for the future.
