montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
what a punch , donaire wins by brutal stoppage a la pacquaio vs hatton , only difference montiel got up and i dont know how?? but he was out on his feet and thank god only took 2 more punches
donaire = superstar
donaire = superstar
Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
Amazing KO punch. It was great that Donaire finally got a fight where he could shine against a top opponent. I have no idea how Montiel got up either, he had what looked like a mini-seizure on the floor! Donaire could clear up to 122 I reckon, JML and Gamboa are probably a step too far.
Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
Absolutely perfect KO. Today has been a good day for knockouts.
That Donaire is certainly something special. I remember watching him years back grinding out a split decision over a nondescript opponent. I never thought he would end up the fighter he is today.

Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
Brilliant punch, they looked very well matched until then, Donaire tried a sneaky right uppercut when Montiel was on his way down, must have been a reflex action.

Err, not a reflex action... he was trying to take his head off when he had the chance. Just doing his job :-)simon fox wrote:Brilliant punch, they looked very well matched until then, Donaire tried a sneaky right uppercut when Montiel was on his way down, must have been a reflex action.

Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
It was good counter-punch, Montiel is not wary of Donaire's left hook "ala Arguello". I would like to see Donaire go up at 122 and challenge Toshiaki Nishioka or at 126 Juanma Lopez. he can go up to 5 divisions because he is tall to be at bantamweight, he can up to welterweight I think so. If he beat those two, he can be considered as the next Filipino boxing sensation or second to Manny Pacquiao. Montiel is a good fighter but he was outclassed by a bigger and better challenger. I saw him sprawling and freezing like a beaten dog. If he is tall like Donaire, it will be a good match. A rematch is at stake if Montiel still wants to fight.

Poor refereeing to let Montiel continue after the knockdown. He was not able to follow the ref's post knockdown instructions of lifting gloves, walk towards him etc.Datsue wrote:eff knows, mate.Old bones Ian wrote:How did Montiel get up from that KD??

In fairness he jumped in pretty quickly and Montiel took those two punches pretty well considering he was treading water seconds before.

Thing is Donaire isn't just winning fights, he's dominating everyone from the start. Hopefully we will get to see him fight the winner of Joseph Agbeko v Abner Mares.

The bigger, faster and stronger guy won the fight. Sensational counter that put Montiel down, don't think many from 126 and below would have got up from that so massive credit to the cojones of the mexican.
Do not agree that Donaire can go all the way up to welter like the guy above, he only weighed in 126 come fight time so would be pushing it if he actually moved up that far. Super Bantam could provide some very interesting matchups if he wanted to but think he will stick around and pick up a money fight against the showtime tourney winner.

Yeh hopefully Mares seems to have the smarts out of him and Agbeko but Donaire has effortless speed and his power is frightening

Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
Yes he did thank god, but it showed a shocking lack of judgement to let Donaire back in to finish off Montiel, who didn't respond to any of the ref's calls to raise his gloves: he couldn't, he was clearly concussed.Final round wrote:

So the dumb ass ref lifts his gloves for him, then waves Donaire in for a free shot. Just very lucky than Donaire didn't connect full blooded again. The ref needs to be sent back to school for another 5 years I think, until he's learned some common sense.
Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
he's a very talented fighter. i don't think he's big or good enough to clear up 122 though. with a star making performance on HBO, he'll probably be allowed to pick and choose his fights. being The Man, he won't have to engage in things like unification. the showtime bantamweight tourney could herald an exciting opponent for him, at his own weight (mares v agbeko winner).antcull wrote:Amazing KO punch. Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
if sot chitalada - 80s flyweight champion - had been allowed to fight up at bantamweight, the results may have been similar to what we saw in donaire v montiel. rather than boiling his bones down and taking those 2 unneccessary beatings from muangchai kittikassem.
obviously, the charlie atkinson trained fighter was not allowed (by his manager) to fight above flyweight, where he quickly dried out and faded away after some sensational performances (vs ex champs magri and gabriel bernal).
seeing donaire achieve this made me sort of lament the career of chitalada. they have similar size and athletic talent.

Nice to see you reminisce about Chitlada AB and I agree 100% - he was ruined by being made to boil down to fly long after his body had out grown the division. He was a silky smooth, naturally brilliant boxer.Autobarn wrote:if sot chitalada - 80s flyweight champion - had been allowed to fight up at bantamweight, the results may have been similar to what we saw in donaire v montiel. rather than boiling his bones down and taking those 2 unneccessary beatings from muangchai kittikassem.

The 'Asian Muhammad Ali' would have been a multi-weight world champ if his management had been so insistent on keeping him at an artificially low weight....
Re: montiel vs donaire...**SPOILER**
yep, small minded management. he peaked very early, won a title early and was massive at the weight. tragic to see all his talent wasted away. i figured more would remember chitalada, because of the fight with magri and the fights that were shown on ITV's world boxing program.TerribleTerry wrote:Nice to see you reminisce about Chitlada AB and I agree 100% - he was ruined by being made to boil down to fly long after his body had out grown the division. perhaps he was kept at flyweight because there were some good champs at 115 (khaosai galaxy), 118 (khaokor galaxy) and 122 (samart payakaroon, who beat chitalada 4x in the muay thai). and that's just counting the thai talent (also, moon, konadu, fenech, roman, vazquez sr). perhaps some of these had the same manager/promoter which kept it from happening. damn shame we never got to find out.
