BIG LARRY VS BIG JOHN
Re: BIG LARRY VS BIG JOHN
That's a fair win for McDermott, but let's not forget although touted, Larry O was inexperienced. For me, Larry did a poor job "jumping on" McDermott. It seemed to me he wasn't actually bundling forward, but stopping still before unleashing. That said, i also noticed that McDermott did a top job of holding the centre of ring whcih takes some guts against someone like Larry O.
This result reflects very well on Tyson Fury who was equally inexperienced as Larry O but mastered McDermott not once, but twice and actually improved on the first performance. McDermott can talk all he wants about not being right for Fury, but he had ALL the advantages over Fury and came up short.

Fury didn't "master" McDermott at all. He lost the first fight and the second was close before the stoppage.

I always thought Larry boxed as an amatuer, got to the semis of the novices..dbf wrote:This isn't the answer. I know first hand how hard John works in the gym, I have seen it with my own eyes. someone wrote a few years ago that big john does the 100m in 11 seconds, if thats the case i will bear my arse in woolies window alongside bernie slaven, infact ill suck him off !!!.... live on boxrec.
put macdermott on a fitness campaign with jimmy mac for 3 months, then we might see him develop even a resemblance of physique. big john is doing very well DESPITE the shape he is in and not because of it, its his own fault he is not british champion, not the fault of any judge etc. john needs to knuckle down, work in the gym and on the road, then he could progress to british championship level, at the moment john is a gatekeeper for the british heavyweight title, nothing more, nothing less.
Credit needs to go C.J Johns trainer, for not only getting him in shape (he was in shape) for this fight but also get John's mind right and giving him the belief. This was a fantastic result for John and C.J who deserved a high profile win.
For Larry it could very well be a good thing for him. He seems like he genuinely wants to learn, and he could go back to the gym and iron out some of the creases. For someone with no amateur background (?) he should be proud of himself and safe in the knowledge that he can improve, which I really believe he will.

Big John can never be written off. Hes a challenge for anyone. If he gets the English title back I think he will have done pretty well for himself. I think the British title might be a step too far though, because there are some good lads on the rise.

does my head in when so many people on here come on slagging mcdermott's fitness, i think he's iobviously just one of those people who will never look good, can't fault his stamina though really, how many of you on here could do 10/12 rounders with some of the fighters he has.

You thought that ref was bad, you should have seen the one in Donaire-Montiel. Montiel was on his back with his legs spasming and his eyeballs bugging out of his head... Christ knows how he got up but the ref felt that it was evidence enough to allow him to continue. It was even worse than allowing Enzo to go on vs Frenkel, though thankfully didn't end as badly.MightyWarrior wrote:It's a CRUEL sport. That was brutal. INCOMPETENT referee, if he though Larry was ok after getting up blankly after that 1st KD, then he's obviously a bit thick.

Fair play to John , he proved me wrong , but my predictions are never the best. John looked up for it from the off, and let Larry play into that left hand.FtmPress wrote:You should not judge a book by is cover, John was in great shape for this fight, And the win proved it.Old bones Ian wrote:I'd go along with thatDioufy wrote:It's hard to rule out McDermott because he#s done fairly well when he's looked awful, but this looks doubly bad for him. I don't think I've seen him in much worse shape. Larry to dominate him, for an early KO.
Hopefully this will lead to good things for John, he seems a nice , honest pro. He's been on the wrong side of a 1st round KO and come back from it , so proves that dispite the unathletic look sometimes, he has heart and balls to come back and win again
I'd like to see him take on some of the other up and comers Price or Dallas .

I thought the ref for larry v john was spot on - if larry had tied john up he could have recovered. He was walking forward fine - then when he seemed off balance the ref wouldnt let him continue.oliverfennell wrote:You thought that ref was bad, you should have seen the one in Donaire-Montiel. Its not like he was dropped like a sack of spuds then allowed to continue.

I dont think larry would of survived even if the ref did allow it to go on as everytime John was landing with a big shot larry was going down!kingfinn wrote:I thought the ref for larry v john was spot on - if larry had tied john up he could have recovered. oh no i meant he stopped it when he should have, but when he let it contiue i dont think the fight was out of larrys reach if he had tied john up and made it too the bell - we've seen fighters come back from far worste.lefty wrote:I dont think larry would of survived even if the ref did allow it to go on as everytime John was landing with a big shot larry was going down!kingfinn wrote:I thought the ref for larry v john was spot on - if larry had tied john up he could have recovered. Poeple are critising the ref for letting larry continue but i think he called it just right.

ok my bad, larrys chin did look a little suspect though as mcdermott isnt the biggest heavyweight puncher out there and it was first power shot he landed that made larrys legs go all rubbery!kingfinn wrote:oh no i meant he stopped it when he should have, but when he let it contiue i dont think the fight was out of larrys reach if he had tied john up and made it too the bell - we've seen fighters come back from far worste.lefty wrote:I dont think larry would of survived even if the ref did allow it to go on as everytime John was landing with a big shot larry was going down!kingfinn wrote: I thought the ref for larry v john was spot on - if larry had tied john up he could have recovered. yep he was too stiff and held his chin too high.lefty wrote:ok my bad, larrys chin did look a little suspect though as mcdermott isnt the biggest heavyweight puncher out there and it was first power shot he landed that made larrys legs go all rubbery!kingfinn wrote:oh no i meant he stopped it when he should have, but when he let it contiue i dont think the fight was out of larrys reach if he had tied john up and made it too the bell - we've seen fighters come back from far worste.lefty wrote: I dont think larry would of survived even if the ref did allow it to go on as everytime John was landing with a big shot larry was going down!

He fights in a very stiff and slightly robotic way like larry does, there doesnt seem to be any fluidity to his boxing at the moment.Counter-puncher wrote:lefty wrote:P.s Dallas will be the next one to suffer the same fate as larry unfortunately![]()
