Hennessy Sports
Regardless of what people think I honestly believe Hennessy Sports and the man at the hel "Meaty" Mick Hennessy have done very well in the last few years - In recent times Hennessy has had a bad run of luck especially in securing a TV deal that the majority of boxing fans will watch. Then last weekend he had some bad losses but at least he can hold onto his flagship fighter Carl Froch.
I for one sincerely hopes that Mick makes a few signings here and there to support Froch and in addition I completely agree with Boxing News in that I also hope Hennessy gets a TV contract that his stable can show their skills.
Good Luck Hennessy Sports.

Seems a shame what has happend to him,i can see him chucking it all in within a short while. I cant see him securing a tv deal as sky seems all sown up,no boxing on terristral tv so that only really leaves premier sports..
Re: Hennessy Sports
He seemed a very decent sort; life is not fair. he's a strong character and I've not seen anything much wrong about him; he'll be back (hopefully)

No chance. I know Mick Hennessy enough to know he will not throw the towel in - he loves the sport too much to do that.Tommy Gunn13 wrote:Seems a shame what has happend to him,i can see him chucking it all in within a short while. He will get a break with TV and he will be a success.

A tv deal is exactly what he needs to get himself back up there. He's been so unlucky recently losing Barker and Murray plus losing 2 british champs. Tough times for sure.

How long will Froch stay with him?

What else does Mick do? Business wise I mean.
Re: Hennessy Sports
For his entire career. As much as Mick has let some of his fighters down, including Froch early in his career, just look how he's got Froch shot after shot at name fighters. Since the Inkin debacle, Froch's resume has Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, a fight with Kessler and finally Abraham. Froch has done great in his career.leforge wrote:How long will Froch stay with him?
No reason whatsoever would justify a change.

If Frochy was going to change promoters he would have done early in his career.Dioufy wrote:For his entire career. At every single stage of Froch's career - Hennessy has delivered and paid Froch very well for his services - thus there has never been a need for a change.
I have to say - I was not surprised at all at John Murray leaving the stable - however I am stunned at Barker going - reason being is there is an amazing loyalty between the fighters, managers and trainers within Hennessy Sports and Barkers manager Tony Simms and Hennessy are close friends and thus I must admit I raised my eyebrows at that one.
I will state again - British Boxing needs the likes of Hennessy Sports to provide competition for the likes of Matchroom, Hatton Promotions, Maloney Promotions and Mr Warren.

Sky PPV currently have more cash-cows than the WBC.

I agree, boxing will get back to the 70's and early 80's otherwise; a cartel.Spud wrote:If Frochy was going to change promoters he would have done early in his career.Dioufy wrote:For his entire career. The show at Wembley was a cracker - I can't see Mick Hennessey throwing the towel in - he deserves a TV break.

Not long ago when Hennessy was on Sky and then when he first got the ITV deal he was putting on the best domestic cards, he really seems a decent guy and likes to do things the proper way titles wise. I hope he gets a break soon TV wise.

Re: Hennessy Sports
I think Mick is responsible for an improvement of British boxing over recent years — he was the promoter who said no to the crappy titles of the day and concentrated on the traditional British, Commonwealth and European belts which have replaced them, thankfully. It's a cruel irony that he's ended up out of the TV mix and now has fighters leaving his stable. In my opinion, show for show in recent years, Hennessy has delivered more quality, and more consistently, than a couple of the promoters Sky currently has under contract. With the defeats and defections, this isn't a great time to be Mick Hennessy, but he's too innovative and enthusiastic to not be a major player in years to come. A lot of his current strength depends on Frochy not going down the self-promoted route. I have no idea how long or for how many fights their deal runs, but assume their relationship will continue for the duration of Super Six, at least. I hope it continues for longer.
