Another poor show! Was going to go to cleverly fight on that date won't go to this. Adam smith reign of poor shows continues!

For someone facing accusations of treading water, this is just what is needed - a real step up in level against a proven world level contender with a great KO record. I'm sure the York Hall card will be heavily stacked with some of the stars of the future up against that ever willing rival TBA (or at least they will be until the pull outs during the week of the fight leaving Big Larrys comeback/rematch against Daniel Peret as the co-headline). Can't wait.

To be fair to them, they did try and get the Mitchell fight but this is less than thrilling to say the least. Here's hoping there's a Katsidis level fight in the summer followed by a world title shot in the winter

Murray is currently ranked at 3 by WBC, he's already in a position where he could go for a title fight. He has proved he is above domestic class, one more fight to prove he's Euro/sub world class and then he'd be ready for a title shot. But this is another step back.

Just noticed this on the Murray story on Warrens site...

So basically there won't be a single competitive fight as he'll not put any of his prospects in with anyone that has a chance of winning. Oh Mr Warren, you do spoil us!

i think with warren, he puts on the poorer fights but also he secures the bigger opponents afterward.

perhaps it's mitchell's fault, pricing himself out of a great opportunity to fight murray.

Backward step for Murray really, that guy has an awful record and his only loss was against Rasilla, who's strong but McCloskey did an easy job on him.

The good thing for Murray is that he's at least getting regular fights and that he can just concentrate on boxing now.

This is without doubt the worst opponent I have seen for an EBU fight, the guy probably isn't even British level. He has only beaten two guys with a winning record. Shambles of a fight and poor matchmaking. Shame on the EBU for sanctioning it aswell.

I fully agree that this fight is not headline material, for a live show on Sky this would be pushing it to even be deserving of chief support, Sky need to sort this sh1t out asap.

However it looks like the wheels are in motion for a big ppv in May, Groves v Degale and Mitchell v Murray supporting Cleverly.

While i wouldn't expect this kind of thing every week for "free", this is the template Sky should be using for every show, a proper title fight and 2 good domestic tear ups, not necessarily big names, just actual fights.

Totally agree. Even a headliner in a straightforward fight and a couple of prospects unlikely to lose would be ok, IF they were supported by a fight or two approaching 50:50 in terms of competitivity. A full card of 80:20 fights may boost the careers and bank balances of those involved but they will not keep new viewers committed to coming back for more.

Competitive fights are the ones people talk about, the ones people remember as the reasons they got into boxing. From my generation it was the Benn / Watson / Eubank rivalry. You won't get many fans in 20 years from now reminiscing about their first experience of boxing being John Murrays 4th round KO of that Spaniard who I can't remember or of Kell Brook blowing out the Ghanaian in 2 rounds.

I might have said elsewhere and probably have but when I lived overseas, ESPN (I think) used to do 'Latino Boxing' or something. You know it was your Chavez 10-3 against your Hernandez 12-5, etc...some incredibly intense six rounders. No title, probably few aspirations of one either. Just heart, grit, dedication...and so entertaining.

Best fight in a British ring this year so far? Probably Crolla v Watson (at least in terms of Sky fights - I've not seen Theophane v Daws). Two non-superstars, non protected prospects in a well matched contest that produced a thoroughly entertaining fight. Yes, there needs to be balance and I understand a promoters desire to protect their investment, but it seems to be going too far the wrong way at the moment.
