Sykes vs Johanneson
Sykes vs Johanneson
Truly one of the best fights I've seen in British boxing. Well deserved win for Sykes and a display of grit, but all due respect for Johannson.
Couldn't stop laughing at McGowans display of language after round 9 "HE BLEW HIS F****** WAD NOW, F****** CMON"

Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
Yeah really good fight - Sykes definitely edged it. After he got up, he seemed to find another gear.

Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
Yep was a really superb fight! Sykes Is such a game lad he just seemed to want it a bitty more, but Johannson really was good tonight as well. Hopefully Sykes gets a Euro title shot or even a rematch with Crolla.
Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
Would love to see a Crolla rematch, Crolla's improved and I think if Sykes steps it up, he might edge a win.alexpaterson wrote:Yep was a really superb fight! Crolla's now a lightweight? Going for the British title?
Good words Maloney had about Buckland and a rematch..

What is the point of a Crolla rematch?Atom Bomb wrote:Would love to see a Crolla rematch, Crolla's improved and I think if Sykes steps it up, he might edge a win.

They seem to be ducking him.Atom Bomb wrote:Good words Maloney had about Buckland and a rematch..

I'd like to see one - dosen't necessarily mean it'll happen, or theres a point to it seeing as though Crolla's at lightweight (and doing well).Horse wrote:What is the point of a Crolla rematch?Atom Bomb wrote:Would love to see a Crolla rematch, Crolla's improved and I think if Sykes steps it up, he might edge a win.

That match needs to be made, don't know if the outcome would be different over 12 rounds - but I'd sure as hell hope it would.
Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
Gary seemed quite clear to me he wanted a rematch but Maloney said that Gary Buckland had done nothing at the super featherweight limit to warrant a bout.
Sykes proved his chin and ability, I hope a rematch comes off.
Gary v Carl was a top, top fight; Gary v Gary over 12 at 9 stone 4 may be fight of the year

Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
Early candidate but id say this gets fight of year
Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
IMO it was a bit of a Khan Maidana on a British scale of fighting, definitely going to be a top contender.Camcas wrote:Early candidate but id say this gets fight of year

I don't think it was that good.Camcas wrote:Early candidate but id say this gets fight of year

Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
I was pleased for Sykes he seems like a good lad, he had to keep focus against Carl's power and battled through adversity well straight after the knock down.
Dunno why they were saying end of the road for Johansen he's the type of fighter who'll gone on until he starts getting done over.
Mcrorys card even into the last round was bollocks imo

Silly comment with it only being March surely? John Watson has been in a couple of crackers and I think Crolla V Watson was a better fight IMHO. Carl very one dimentional and as we all thought Gary went down when caught, all credit to him for getting up this time but not worthy of fight of the year

Yep, the Jamie McDonnell fight was an unexpected treat too.

There have been other British fights that I have enjoyed more this year.Yorkshiresuperstar wrote:Horse,

Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
I thought it was a top top fight, I'm not saying it was the best fight you will see this year, but my comment was because wherever there's a Sykes topic, no matter what you don't have anything good to say about the kid. Nothing.
Sykes-Crolla - Sky called "the undercard fight of the year".
Sykes-Morris - the Board nominated for 'fight of the year' pipped by Moore-Rhodes.
Now a thriller with Carl, himself total entertainment as always.
Sykes is entertainment, the noise last night was deafening, enjoy this kid when he fights - how many other domestic champions are in consistently fantastic back-to-back fights?

Agreed, was there cheering for Carl (but also a big fan of Gary) and was very impressed with the noise levels, there was a real buzz around the place as soon as Groves fight finished, great atmosphere!Yorkshiresuperstar wrote:Sykes is entertainment, the noise last night was deafening, enjoy this kid when he fights - how many other domestic champions are in consistently fantastic back-to-back fights?
Will definitely be going to watch Gary again!

Nice one mate,
both fantastic lads, a credit to the game, outside the ring they are friends too.
Both walked out of the ring winners, as did boxing.

Re: Sykes vs Johanneson
How refereshing was it to see a defeated boxer accept defeat in the way Johanneson did.
Said something like yeh he definately won the fight and beat me. No excuses none of this well I don't want to make excuses like but I had a virus in the build up or I hurt my ribs in sparring about 3 weeks ago.
Both men were a credit and yet again put it all on the line, well done both, really terrific advert for British boxing and boxing in general.
