We should have a mixture of British shows laced with the best fights from the world scene. I would rather watch a good world fight than an average British level fight for a 'commonwealth' title or whatever tag they can put on it to make it seem legit.
agree, it's good to see these Commonwealth, British title fights, but you need that balance. Saturday would be a great night if they showed Hatton (message to Sky he's a BRITISH fighter going for a WORLD title) and before that Sykes v Johanesson, plus Groves, that's a good balance but the schedule is very low on quality.

Still no word on Hatton/Alvarez????? Sky have a representative who frequently uses this forum and we're no nearer to knowing what's going on with the aforementioned WBC title fight.

I don't expect Sky to show every single fight that takes place around the world but I think they need to sit down with all the promoters they use and indicate that a genuine world title fight will always take priority over a leisure centre show.

I still do not see any reason why Sky would refuse to show Matthew Hatton's fight.

Sky have definitely missed a trick in not picking up some of Hennessy's shows

That schedule is low quality and represents poor value to the subscriber. :( Skysports need to up their game considerably. How I long for the days of Hennessy sports shows on ITV1 and ITV4.

Only Sykes and Johannson is worth getting excited about.

not sky's problem. the problem lies with boxing itself. the best wont fight the best, fighters only want to fight 1-2 times a year once they think they have reached "world" level...a good example, Kell Brook, quality boxer, but should be fighting 3-4 x a year, the best brits also seem to avoid each other as well,so we get less fights of a decent quality and end up with fillers for commonwealth titles, which invariably are meaningless.

Good point about Brook.

He's regarded as a top prospect whilst Miguel Cotto is seen as washed up. I have no doubt who would win between the two right now.

Yes boxing has it's problems, but there are still some cracking fights we do want to see which are not being shown, e.g Hatton.

true, i think he would eat cotto up and stop him in 10 rounds. he is stumping his own development. after the way the jennings fight ended, if i was him, i would have sorted out another fight within 2 months or even less. it wasnt too hard on his body, so why wait months again? inactivity will stop him progressing and when he eventually does move into world class it will be his own fault when he gets found out, such a shame. waste of talent. my only hope is that degale doesnt go down the same road cos he has the skills to become a top ten p4p entry

'Any old' boxing can have a negative impact on the sport's well being, which is not great at the moment anyway. Us anoraks might tune into this quality of show but I can't see any reason why the uncommitted would. If the fighters and fights weren't out there it would be a different scenario, but that isn't the case at all. Existing deals or not, I find it hard to believe that Sky can't force the issue with the promoters to some degree. That bunch of fights are just schedule-fillers in my opinion. Is it too much to ask for even one genuinely meaningful fight a month when you look at the British talent pool today (and not have to pay 15 quid extra for it)?
Hello again Glyn

You might have something there mate about any old boxing NOT being better than no boxing at all. You know how closely I follow this game but I stopped watching the TeleFutura shows in the U.S. months ago because it was just mismatch after mismatch, a showcase for Golden Boy prospects as they beat up opponents who were 100-1 underdogs. (That said, TeleFutura has an interesting fight this week, Escobedo vs Estrada.) The point is, and I think you were alluding to this, if serious fans find fights so unappealing that they find something more productive or more interesting to do than watch the boxing, there's a problem.

I think Cotto wears him down before halfway mate.

This is Katsidis/Mitchell all over for me. Brook definitelyu has talent but I think his elevation to the elite fights will end in disaster due to the continued gimmes that keep coming his way.

I'd love to be wrong.

I am a little disappointed but what we have been given so far this year and what is scheduled. Of course this could all change and i will give Sky until May before laying into them. RINGSIDE is a tough one as and as much as i have enjoyed it's return to our screens it really is always divide hardcore fans as it is trying to find a balnce between them and the casual sports fan.
Well it seems that Smith has no problem spending the budget on flying himself to glamorous locations (miami, LA) for OK interviews (Jonny Nelson' brownosing aside) but I would rather the money was spent on bills.

Know nothing about costs of course - but would much rather see Hatton / Alvarez live or even delatyed at 10 am and even with commentary from US or in studio than watch the sh1t-eating grins on Smith's and Jonny's faces as they enjoy the sun and ask no difficult questions

The schedule looks a whole lot better with Vitali-Solis in there on the 19th, I think. Would have been very weak otherwise.
