Raising the Cruiserweight limit to 200lb - killed heavy div?
Has it pushed the division over the edge?
Would a 250 weight limit have been healthier for the sport?
Had they, whoever they are, created Super-Heavyweight for 250lb plus would it have done the sport more good.
Prevented sloths like Toney, Williams and muscle-bounds like Briggs etc from earning to the same level - condensed the competition?
Pushed the athletic guys near the 200lb limit like Haye, Adamek, Cunningham, Mormeck into the heavies sooner?
And made Cruiserweight transition from Light-Heavyweight more realistic.

Good points, would have been ready-made for heavies who just piled on the pounds to make heavyweight rather than phasing themselves up to it and looking the part...

I don't know, but I have actually considered a super-cruiserweight division would have been more valid. 13st 8lb (as it was) to heavyweight was a huge jump, but now we still have the same problem of cruiser migration but there being a 25lb gap between LHW and cruiser.
If the 190lb cruiser limit had been retained, and an additional division at, say, 205, it wouldn't have halted the migration but might, as Hook said, made the transition a bit more gradual/natural.

A reference to over-eating which is clearly too subtle for many.

I wouldn't say it made much difference. It's not like there have been many world-class heavyweights between 190-210ish pounds for a long time now (the last few being Holyfield in his early 1990s incarnation, Chris Byrd, Eddie Chambers, Jones Jr for his one-fight Heavyweight appearance).

Yes I can imagine, I know you "consider" yourself a couple above but you'll always be the Chisora of wit and wisdom in my eyes DP :)DavidPayne wrote:Its all about levels.Captain Hook wrote:Apologies for being so slow!
...and that's from the heart.
Let's form our own body, the Boxrec Boxing Corporation, I have some headed notepaper we can use.....we can have whatever weights we damn well want and our HQ can be in Woking, I know of an empty shop that would be perfect.

On a serious note a class for the 7ft 20-stone monsters and one for the overweight slobs who are up there for a pay day because cruiserweight is unfashionablewould be an idea....
Re: Raising the Cruiserweight limit to 200lb - killed heavy div?
I have not recognised the HW division for years. It is total crap. Only in such a shite division could the robotic Klitsckos have reigned for so long. Not that Haye will beat either of them.
I view todays cruiserweight divison as the HW division and for the purposes of comparisons with the great HW champions in history. The fights in the 200lb division are immesurably better than the so called HW division.

If you think cruiserweight was/is bad and suffers from who are they disease, then imagine how a super-cruiserweight division would look with 4 belts and 4 champs and another 3-4 guys who can't make 190-200lbs and are too small to play with heavyweights.

i would raise the cruisers to 215 or sumfink or just go for a junior heavyweight division
there is an argument for this...we are evolving bigger and bigger ..how long can this go on
one weight division shouldnt have Valuev, arreola and brian minto

rather than junior heavy i think super heavy would be a more appropriate one , make a new division for the likes of valuev and butterbean , i think without the huge guys who maybe cant box as well but there physical attributes give them an advantage , without those guys the heavyweight division would be more competitive , im not sure what weight id put it at though maybe something like 240lbs max for the heavies and anything over that as superheavyfunso banjo baby wrote:i would raise the cruisers to 215 or sumfink or just go for a junior heavyweight division

A super-heavyweight division would be the last nail in the coffin of the marketability of the heavyweight title in my opinion. The HW champion needs to be the guy who could beat every other champion in the sport.

do we really need another division?

Re: Raising the Cruiserweight limit to 200lb - killed heavy div?
I think you need to keep the heavyweight division. Just align all the divisions from around featherweight all the way to heavyweight. These weights have been around for over 100 years - basically light heavyweight limit should be 185/190lbs, cruiserweight around 210/215lbs and anything over is a heavyweight. Again - we have to learn from the UFC on how it should be done - how embarrassing.
You'll probably find there is no need for a super middleweight division once the weight divisions have been correctly aligned. Or the light welterweight/light middleweight division come to think of it.

Re: Raising the Cruiserweight limit to 200lb - killed heavy div?
gave us a few extra years of johnny nelson's thrill-packed WBO title reign - nelson would not have been able to keep making the weight if the limit hadn't gone up 10 lbs.DavidPayne wrote:Has it pushed the division over the edge?
