I agree, it would be a great fight!
Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
watson would beat him comfotably again IMO
Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
Agree with the above. It should also be a massive fight for Manchester, but unfortunately neither are massive ticket sellers.Gazmac81 wrote:watson would beat him comfotably again IMO

Maybe if Matthew boxed in London nearer the Man Utd fan base.....?
Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
Why do you think Hatton has improved "a lot" in the handful of his 40-odd fights since Watson?? Have you been blinded by his new World Title contender status? ....sure sounds like it. If you think Hatton got his shot for any single, main reason than that his brother's name is Ricky Hatton then perhaps it's time to go back to starting daft threads in Other Sportslefty wrote:I know someone has already mentioned this but id enjoy seeing this fight again especially since hatton has improved alot since their first meeting.Anyone else enjoy seeing a rematch?
Craig Watson would outclass and generally bust up Matthew Hatton 10 times out of 10. Do you suppose he'll get a World Title shot?
At the same time you've got Mr Hatton going around saying how he's "dominated Europe for months now"
Hatton put up a gutsy display on Saturday but it would have been a fcking travesty if he'd pulled a lucky punch out the bag.

Looking at the names on his record, I'd argue that Hatton's level of opposition improved a lot following his loss to Watson.
I'm no great fan of Hatton as a fighter, but is there another active British welterweight who has better names on their resume than Alvarez, Nuzhnenko, Branco, N'dou, Tackie etc in the last few years?

Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
because he gets his opponents cherry picked. 40 yr old Branco..then some Swiss, for a start. He's avoided countless live threats on the domestic front. Most of this is to be expected, if big brother can open doors for you then so what?? Do it!......The thing is Hatton brags and bangs his own drum too much. "I want to fight X Y Z...etc etc....." ....."I lost to Watson cos I had a bad night and I'd win a rematch" ...... I could go on and fcking on.Horse wrote:Why would it have been a travesty?NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:Hatton put up a gutsy display on Saturday but it would have been a fcking travesty if he'd pulled a lucky punch out the bag.
Kevin Anderson summed up M.Hatton when he said he thinks he's just one of them guys that just goes round shouting out people's names but doesn't have any intention of getting in the ring with them! (Boxing Monthly).
I'm glad the Mexican whupped his a*se. He'd have been calling out fcking Mayweather this kid if he'd landed a lucky shot (impossible as that would have been).

Not one of them are in the 20s most of them are late 30s

He fought Nuzhnenko after Branco, he was a decent opponent.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:because he gets his opponents cherry picked. 40 yr old Branco..then some Swiss, for a start.

I forgot about Nuzhnenko which did sound like a good win (it's always a good win when you get off your bum in the first couple of rounds!).Horse wrote:He fought Nuzhnenko after Branco, he was a decent opponent.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:because he gets his opponents cherry picked. 40 yr old Branco..then some Swiss, for a start.

As for Watson, well Watson held a belt (Commonwealth) so they probably thought get him on the big brother's Thank You fight cos we fancy this Watson chap more than we fancy the British Champion.
He's actually been known to complain about not getting a shot at the Lonsdale belt....what credibility does that hold when you consider this man has just been served a WBC World title shot at a weight he doesn't box at, yet we're meant to believe he kept getting overlooked for the British title???? No. It's because they know what Anderson, Jennings, Kell Brook etc would in all liklihood do with him.
Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
Don't forget Matthew Hatton banging the drum for his 'world title shot' against Ted Bami for the IBO. That was a joke and I lost what little respect I had for him then.
Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
That may be so - I still wouldn't say that Kell Brook (for example) has fought better opposition in the same time period. As said before, I'm no great fan of Hatton, and he had no business fighting for a world title at light middle, but I just feel that some of the criticism he gets is a little OTT.xXHAMMERXx wrote:magnus wrote:Looking at the names on his record, I'd argue that Hatton's level of opposition improved a lot following his loss to Watson.

Look what Bami had been up to for the couple of years prior to fighting M.Hatton. That was a version of Ted Bami. Nothing like he used to be....hence he got the email to fight!.....what did he do after that, lose some more or retire, I forget?winkveron wrote:Don't forget Matthew Hatton banging the drum for his 'world title shot' against Ted Bami for the IBO. Kell's fought nothing like the level Hatton has but most people on here world expect Kell to deal with him without the aid of a score board, I would hazard a guess.
Talking about always getting overlooked for the Lonsdale belt....what was M.Hatton doing after 30 or 40 odd fights while the 2 novices Brook and Barrie Jones were contesting the belt??
Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
i'd like to reiterate that I don't think M.Hatton is without merit as I clearly will be coming across. He's brave, his conditioning is always respectable and he has learnt his job damn well........I just have zero time whatsoever for the crap he and his team spout. It is always in stark contrast to the way their business is conducted in my opinion.

Re: matthew hatton vs craig watson 2
fair play to m hatton for his up turn in form, however the fact is his brother has matched him very well and more or less bought him that euro title, and as for that joke on saturday that fight was only made coz of rickys good relationship with golden boy. there are many other brittish fighters out there more deserving of these sort of opportunitys but dont hav an older brother who is well in with both the commonwealth and euro organizations
