2011 silver gloves upsets?
Let me start by saying there was some great bouts. I feel nico Hernandez won. Also I expected zimmy dickenson win it all again. If you have any input in this bout please tell me what happen with zimmy. He looked so strong in his first bout.

I also expected neslam manchado to win with his strength and aggressiveness. Instead he looked very sloppy and he got pick apart He looked very green.

I was hoping to see chase calloway and mark reyes but neither maid it to the final. Chase looked confused at his first bout and mark reyes looked good in his first bout but speculations that he got hurt in his first bout it seemed to me he didn't fight his second bout. I also expected mark reyes to win the tournament. I hope is not an excuse because he lost against a lesser opponent. This kid will win it next year if he heals and become strong minded.

Alberto fundora lost I thought with his height he would use it better instead he got hit with straight right hands. Even tho I think he still won he should take this and learn from this mistake. Sorry if I hurt anyfeelings I'm just speaking from what I saw.

he just didn't do enough to win that fight considering where he was. Anytime that you leave it close, that's what happens. Lesson learned hopefully but you have to give 100 percent every time especially when you only have three minutes. I'm happy that Dutchover got it. Good friend of ours. First bout was against a boxer with less experience most likely but sometimes we forget these are little kids but your have to stay focused to stay on top. Zimmie said he learned a lesson from the loss. That's all you can and keep moving. No excuses just get back at it.roughhouse75 wrote:Let me start by saying there was some great bouts. nelsan was too wide open throwing shots trying to knock garys head off. That's how he boxes though. Gary is the defending Silver Gloves and National JOroughhouse75 wrote:I also expected neslam manchado to win with his strength and aggressiveness. Champion, so he was not going to be easy. It was a war while it lasted but Gary was landing harder shots and you could tell he was older and was able to use his experience to not give in to Machados roughhousing even though it looked like he was ---hitting behind the head and after the bell. But he pulled it together and got the RSC. Very good sportsmanship shown by both boxers immediately afterwards too. That was something that impresses me more than the boxing ability I saw; how well boxers took defeat and how much sportsmanship was displayed.

yes he injured his arm but that's not an excuse at all. He lost. He definitely has the ability to win it all but like I said you have to be focused for an entire bout, an entire tournament to win it all. Mark will take some time to healmand he will definitely be back. I missed seeing Chase.roughhouse75 wrote:I was hoping to see chase calloway and mark reyes but neither maid it to the final. This is what I mean when did he get hurt? And did he really hurt it? Because he sure didn't show it in the semi. How old is he and can he came back next year! I would like to see him fight one more time he looks very strong and skilled boxer.DCAmateurBoxing wrote:yes he injured his arm but that's not an excuse at all. He lost. I think he needs to learn how to box a bit more and he would be a dangerous opponent to anyoneDCAmateurBoxing wrote:nelsan was too wide open throwing shots trying to knock garys head off. mark reyes got hurt in his first bout on thursday and like dc amateur said is no excuse he did what he thought he could but any one that knows mark knows he could have won the tournament. we never said his injury was the reason he lost but it was a factor in the bout and like dc amateur said he needed to be strong minded and focus. im sure he will heal and come back even better!roughhouse75 wrote:This is what I mean when did he get hurt? Re: 2011 silver gloves upsets?
I also hope Mark Reyes comes back strong next year. I was disapointed that him and Chase Calloway didnt make it to the finals like alot of people expected them to. Chase has the most exprience out of everyone in the 147lb division and I thought he would take it his last year in the tournament, but he lost a close match to Flavio Beccerra from Region 4 who ended up winning it all. I watched the fight the first two rounds and left because I thought Chase won both fairly easily by outpointing him with his jab and boxing smart staying away from Flavio's power. I was impressed but he must of blew it in the third?? It was a shock when I found out he lost the next day. Hopefully Chase comes back strong at JOs, I believe he has potentional to be great. I believe Mark has that same potentional, exprience should help him. Also, congrats to Nico Hernandez for 5 straight National Silver Glove titles!
I enjoyes all the great fights at Nationals, great tournament every year!

Re: 2011 silver gloves upsets?
Hello, I'm the coach of 2011 winners Shannon Ford and Carlos Osorio out of Syracuse, NY, as well as runner up Sha Maccauliffe and 3rd place Yamil Osorio. I would say the bout with Fundora and Osorio was an upset, given the height difference, the fact that Osorio weighed 176lbs that morning before going to the scale, and the fact that Osorio only had 9 bouts under his belt. I've watched the tape a bunch and it could have went either way, I think Osorio got the nod because his pressure and his awkwardness made it hard to see Fundora's shots when they were landing.roughhouse75 wrote:Alberto fundora lost I thought with his height he would use it better instead he got hit with straight right hands. when i said he should have won(alberto fundora) i meant by his heigh and experience we all notice osorio is still a bit green and fundora by far has alot more experience. i felt fundora should of won i think with what i saw on that fight fundora let the bout be to close and the out come of the fight was the proper call. yes your guy won and you should be proud of osorio.
