Matchup of KO Artists -- Fight Goes Distance

Post by kingpawn »

I'll try a question here. Thought of it in the thread that had asked who would win between Liston and Foreman. It stems from the idea that, if you put two big punchers in the ring, normally you don't expect the fight to go the distance. Yet many times in history that has been the case.

Wondering who remembers two big punchers being paired against each other where a KO or TKO seemed imminent, but the fight wound up going the distance. What are the most glaring examples of this happening and who were the fighters?

My all time favorite example of this occurence is the Andy Ganigan-Gato Gonzalez fight at the Forum in LA years ago. There were three knockdowns- Gonzalez went down briefly early, Ganigan twice in the 6th or 7th, then once the following round, so 4 kds- but it never became a war as advertised.
