Kevin Mitchell

Post by Eddy »

Met Kevin Mitchell in a gym today in the weight room. He told me his fight with John Murray is "back on." The original purse set for that fight would've seen Murray get £30.000 more than Mitchell; so I can understand why he weren't happy. Despite Murray having a 0 in his record, Mitchell is the name, and he did beat the man who beat Khan

Yeah I know it's not in the same, but Mike Tyson got something like £25 million bags when he boxed Frank Bruno, Bruno was the WBC champion at the time. Tyson weren't even six months out of the peter, Bruno only got £3 mill.

Mitchell can't expect to earn the same as Murray considering his last performance..... and preparation.

Come on Murray!! (if it happens)

John Murray will get smashed. Kev's looking lean and mean. Granted he came unstuck against the Ozzy, but that kid could fight; he weren't no push over. Kevin will be too strong, ...he'll knock him out. I'll bet my keyboard on it.

Cockneys (i.e. anyone south of Coventry) are the intermediary step between Brits and yanks. They're louder then the average Brit and usually love the sound of their own voice

Ive heard the argument for both fighters purses. And to be honest, I do kind of think Mitchell has a bit of a case for more money.

This fight is being held in London, Mitchell is local and has already crammed a few thousand into West Ham for his fight.

When you consider Khan got hardly anyone for one his fights recently at the MEN or Bolton arena, you have to give him some credit for that.

Sure Katsidis as the opponent was a huge draw no doubt, but people did come to cheer Kevin.

But on the flipside - Mitchell messed up his camp and by all accounts blew his big chance. He was utterly destroyed by Katsidis and plenty think Murray will grind him down and stop him in this fight too.

And that is the problem. If you get blasted out on prime time PPV - then everyone gets to see it and your value drops through the floor.

Combine all that with what is in the kitty to put the show together in the first place, and you have this current scenario. allegedly must appreciate that a Manc and a Welshman in London ain't going to bring as many supporters in on foot as he thinks. Unless of course, that Manc is Ricky Hatton and the Welshman is Joe Calzaghe.

Without a marquee name you need a popular local fighter.

This should be great fight between two very talented boxers if it happens, but neither Murray nor Mitchell have proved they are world class yet.

Have to agree with Dan Dares, none of them have fought at world class yet. I think Murray's all action style convinces boxing fans that he is better skilled than he is. Also can't believe how a lot of people wrote off Mitchell after one defeat! The same Mitchell that everyone was raving about before the Katsidis fight!!! This fight isn't as clear cut as a lot on here think it is, if Mitchell stayed on the outside he can box the ears off Murray - don't forget what Lee McAllister did to him for a few rounds before getting drawn in. If Murray can force him to fight though, he busts him to bits. Personally I've got to fancy Murray but there is no way it's an easy fight! :bag:

you don't get it, at all.

edit: you may have a point, though.

perhaps my fellow midlander should actually have said 'everyone below Stratford (upon Avon, in case you were wondering')'

or, at a push, 'everyone below Oxford'
