Macklin vs Gevor

Post by whiskey »

Matty Macklin set to fight on Khan undercard apparently.

Khoren Gevor.... Saw him fight Abraham, got put to sleep.

Still, he gets a run out following the Winky farce.

Image

won 31 (KO 16) + lost 5 (KO 2) + drawn 0

Lost to good euro names though - Sturm, Abraham, Sartison and Konecny.

Will be a good yard stick.

What's so great about the undercard?

Which of the undercard fights are 50-50 type fights?

Gevor will be tougher than people think, he has only lost to world champions which Macklin isn't

Gevor-Macklin potentially tougher for Matt than Winky given Wright's age inactivity and questionable motivation.

WBA getting some hefty sanctioning fees that night. Is Murray really getting a WBA interim shot or is it his noddy international title? How is the interim title at stake? They already have a super, a regular champ AND an interim champ?

In his interview, Macklin seems to agree that although he would have liked to have fought Winky, Gevor is going to be a tougher nut to crack. Should be a real test but if he gets through it then he deserves a world title shot

I think this is an error. These are going to be WBA International titles.

I'm claiming the WBA 'couldn't give a monkeys about your rip-off sanctioning fees' belt. Fair line-up but not stellar but hey ho. Still think this is a fight where Khan has so much more to lose than gain though.

Not a bad line up. Hope, but don't expect, Sky to show at leadt 5 fights from the card. They should try to follow the Mag 7, rather than the Haye-Harrison approach. I'm assuming the US card will be added too. If so, that's pretty good.

Ortiz - Berto.

Boxrec has the WBA fights, other than Khan, listed as international or inter-continental ones. Supposed that's what you get if you throw a free carpet or two in with a world title sanctioning fee.

Macklin-Gevor is 60-40 type of fight especially given Macklin's showing in his last fight. If he's not firing on all cylinders, Gevor has a very good chance to win. He gave Sturm all he could handle, busted up Asikainen before Macklin did and Abraham is the only one to stop him legitimately (Konecy fight was stopped on cuts). And he's a southpaw.

This should be cracking fight. Still not worth PPV mind (IMO).

Macklin V Martin Murray would've been better. But I hear Macklin turned it down, obviously too much to lose for him........ I think Macklin suffers from that syndrome where he thinks he is actually better than what he is.

Those WBA fights depress me. International etc titles and the WBU turned British boxing into a joke 10 years ago and it's disappointing to see the bastard things gradually sneaking their way back into the British scene. Effing nanny state — not everyone has the right to be called a champion, it's an honour that should be reserved for the very best. TV likes them because it thinks it makes its product sound better than it is, like a show is loaded with important fights, but a half decent match doesn't need one of these pieces of shit hung on it. Excuse my French, but this really effing pisses me off.

We can look back 50 years and read about the title lineage at it gives a very good idea of the best boxers at each time. Imagine reading about this era in 50 years time. 'XXX was promoted to the Super WBA belt so a fight for the WBA Title between the interim title holder and the number one challenger could be made. Meanwhile the WBC organised a title fight for the WBC 154 title between their Silver belt holder and a Welterweight for their fight at 150 pounds.'

Gevor's a good fighter. I had him beating Sturm, and he gave Abraham problems until he got knocked out. It should be a good fight. I wonder if the Sartison result was fair?

Gevor may be a good fighter, but this is a card being held in Britain, so surely the more appealing fight is Macklin v Murray.

With respect to Murray, this is about Macklin's world ranking Wadey — he's looking for a title shot and beating Murray wouldn't earn him one. Macklin's desperate for a breakthrough, which is why he's so gutted not to be fighting Winky. Gevor is an experienced world level operator and they'll probably try to get it sanctioned as an eliminator for something or other. Murray isn't proven at world level, Gevor is.

if murray is any good, then macklin-murray would see macklin taking the same risk jamie moore took against macklin. great for domestic boxing but not great in bumping your career up the next level quickly.

gevor is a tough nut, and was able to take super middleweight punches in his fight with sartison.

According to this interview Murray says the fight with Macklin was agreed but then Macklin changed his mind and chose Gevor instead
