If he spoke English it would make a big difference.

Sure, the Argie is looking fantastic, but he just doesn't have that X factor, does he ?
Even with his last two stunning wins, you're not thinking Marvin Hagler as you watch him.
To the main steam, he's just ANOTHER of boxing's so called "world champs".

Watching it on Sat night, was really surprised how absolutely massive at 160 he looks. Built like a mini Mike Tyson, hard to believe he made LM for so long. He must be P4P top 5 these days. Watch out Carl Froch.
i wouldn't exactly agree. it's more that he doesn't get great ratings over there. you have to be a ginger irish looking mexican or a mexican plodder, or else a spoiling american olympian or jeff lacy the 2nd, to get known in the middle divisions over there.
No the reason why he hasnt got a big fan base at the minute is because he's from argentina. If you look at the guys with big fan bases like pacquaio or alvarez in mexico they have a big contigent following them in the states aswell at home. Also another thing that sets martinez apart from say pacquaio or mayweather over here at least is he hasnt fought ricky hatton like those two have and thus been given the same big exposure.
well in this era carlos monzon would not have been given much of a stage.

as you say about fighting ricky hatton - martinez could do with a name, like cotto or angulo, to gain him that extra audience. a great performance vs someone like that can boost a fighter's marketability. interestingly, there have been talks of martinez-angulo, though i'm not sure how they'll pull this off with angulo's deportation. also martinez is hopiing for anov PPV fight with cotto.

personally, i'm happy with martinez not being amajor star, and winning the so-called hardcore fan fights. though he ffights on HBO, he's more like a showtime fighter.
