Its a lot closer than people think, anderson is actually very good so you have to rate groves win there. i see groves anderson win as same as deagles smith win. and i do have anderson beating smith if they fought.

close fight deagle points with a rematch down line

People are really overrating Anderson and Groves. Degale is on another level entirely, but there is already a thread to discuss that (although it's not an "official" thread :OhYes: ).

Of course it's my opinion, but I believe there is a lot to back it up. I have yet to here a detailed explanation of why Anderson is better than Smith and why Groves is better than Degale. Based on what has ACTUALLY happened in the ring, it is hard for me to agree with these views.

Stick me on the Groves bandwagon, Degale's an insufferable prick but not in the good Naz/Eubank way.

x2

Degale may very well win the fight and has looked the better of the two but all I know is that after watching that interview I'll be cheering my ass off for Groves. Degale does a great impression of a spoilt 12 year old chav....

There's so much conjecture about this fight. When the two of them were ACTUALLY in the ring, Groves edged a close points decision.

The amateurs are way different than the pros. Now they will be fighting as professionals, so I base my opinion on what has happened in the professional ring. Groves has been rocked by a journeyman and knocked around by Kenny Anderson. Degale throughly outclassed Paul Smith, who is the best opponent either man has fought, and he has never been in any sort of trouble. Degale is also clearly faster and his technique and defense look much tighter to me.

As far as Anderson being better than Smith, I still don't get how anyone could come to that conclusion.

He aint no Willie Pep.

If Groves wants to win he has to do it by KO. Turn it into a war from the off.

I can't get past the deficiencies in Groves' defence when I assess this matchup.

Watching their fight in the amateurs, it was very close and could have gone either way - but this is mostly because Degale just seemed to let Groves come forward in the last two rounds and stopped countering him effectively. Lack of stamina or poor tactics, who knows. He certainly looks better now. Credit to Groves in that fight - Degale was well on top after the first two rounds, but he never stopped coming forward and trying to land; he managed to corner Degale a few times as well as getting in some good digs to the body when Degale tried to hold. I'd have scored it a draw overall, but it went to Groves.

Over 12 rounds, this fight comes down to whether Degale can hurt Groves often enough to stop him coming forward and who can outlast the other. There's still plenty of questions to be asked of both fighters, but to me Degale's been far more comfortable at British level than Groves, who's already been buzzed, floored and forced to suck it up and come back. On the other hand, it might be Groves who lands first and hardest, and who knows, perhaps he can do it better than Paul Smith long enough to put Degale into a shell again like before?

Regardless of all this, a)as a fellow ginger, I have to get behind the Saint and b) I cannot bring myself to support any grown man whose trash talk consists of playground taunts. Not until he fights for a world title, anyway.

I think its a pick em fight.

DeGale's win over Smigga is being CRIMINALLY overrated. Smigga was a middleweight who had stopped 2 out of 6 opponents at Super Middle. The people he had faced at that weight were not exactly top class either, and the only opponent he faced with any real quality was Tony Quiqley who he beat by a razor thin SD.

Kenny Anderson is a big, strong, banger at that weight who IMO would stop Smith pretty comfortably. Groves has fought a higher level of competition so far - no doubt.

Doesn't meant to say Groves will win, but anyone who thinks DeGale is leagues above are kidding themselves. He hasn't been tested yet, Groves has, and he came through (only just though).

Not a certainty either way.

To have an 'OFFICIAL' thread, does it need to be sanctioned by one of the governing bodies ??

Do you need to pay sanctioning fees too??

Yes that's a weird comment isn't it - Anderson's beaten no one and the first time he stepped up, he got stopped - and yet he would beat Smith "comfortably" ? ..Rubbish.

Wouldn't mind seeing Anderson vs Smith on the undercard if possible.

Can you imagine if Anderson were to beat Smith handily? You'd suddenly have to reevaluate your take on the upcoming main event.

Or vice versa, if Smith were to beat Anderson you'd be left fearing for Groves chances.

Either way I think it would heap on the excitement and anticipation, at least for real fans. It would also povide Smith and Anderson with a high profile outing and a means to get back into the picture.

That's not very fair, you can't really label Groves as just a 'step up', he may well prove to be a fighter who ends up at the top of the tree, as opposed to being an opponent who's level begins and ends at the level Anderson's at right now.

If Groves goes on to become a world champion then it's not the blemish you're making it out to be. I liked what I saw of Anderson, tough as bloody nails and packs a punch.

I'm not saying Anderson would beat Smith, it's just not fair to use the groves loss as a way of gauging him... unless you were particularly biased towards Degale.

EDIT: I retract the above statements in the event that Degale batters Groves :OhYes:
