I think Tyson was at his best against Pinklen Thomas, Frank Bruno, and Spinks. He did look good in the second Ruddock fight too because he overcame adversity and showed heart in taking the "smash" and dishing back. To be honest, he looked pretty good against Holyfield too, but I think Holyfield's stronger will broke Mike down as much as his punches did.

Holyfield-Tyson 1 is a good fight but not the classic some have made it out to be . . Just too one sided on my opinion . . after the 5th Tyson was getting completly owned.

His best 'performance' was against Tubbs in my opinion, in terms of quality of opponent and how he did the job.

Best actual 'fight' . . .he actually wasn't in too many good competetive fights . . it was usually him kicking ass or getting his ass kicked. I'd say either the Thomas or Bruno (1st one) fights . . .

Ruddock was a pretty darn good fighter at the time. He probably shouldn't have gotten back in the ring with Tyson for a rematch. If Ruddock were around and in his prime today, he'd KTFO anyone in the division except Vitali.

Those were great fights because Ruddock was one of the few guys to stand in there and fight back against the young Tyson. I'd call Tyson-Holyfield I one of Holyfield's four defining fights (Qawi I, Bowe I and II, Tyson I), but it's less significant for Tyson. Tyson was still good then, but he was well past great.

The Greatest Tyson fight

Post by kojak »

I believe his greatest fight was with Buster Douglas. It had
drama. The outcome was something that took time to
register in the mind. You walked away not believing what
you just saw. How many matches can do that?

jsc, you are truly dillusional or very dumb take your pick. Look at Razor's record. Who the hell did he ever beat to give you that indication? I want to know. Who the hell did this guy ever beat. Look who he beat to get to the Tyson fight. He beat nobody's and had a split decision win over Mike Weaver! You people with your Rudduck shit are truly stupid. He also was KO'd by Tommy Morrison and Mike Crespo!

Yeah, but it is an achievement, and I consider it fair to mention.

Tyson reminds me of Diego Maradona in various aspects. And as Maradona he is a loved/hated person, but always at a great scale

TYSON'S PEAK NIGHT WAS AGAINST Michael Spinks. People defiently thought if anyone could have a chance of beating tyson it was psinks. he went out there and just annhialated mike spinks.

also some of his other best fights were against larry holmes, the man was still good at 42. at 44 he gave holyfield a tough fight.

also against tony tubbs, he loooked great. those were his three best fights. NOT RUDDOCK.

Ruddock, Bruno (1) and Holyfield bouts are Tyson's best.

KO Artist mentioned Tyson's fight with Alex Stewart, and there are not many who remeber this performance. I am not saying it was Tyson at his peak, or the greatest of the Tyson bouts, but it was a magnificent performance.

We have to remeber, Stewart had a good, solid rescord. I think he only had 1 loss on his record, and a high number of his wins were by KO. He also gave Evander Holyfield hell in their first encounter. IMO, the intimidation factor of Tyson was never more apparent than when he fought Alex Stewart.

Another great performance by Iron Mike was against Carl 'the truth' Williams. He found out the truth by a wicked left hook. When you see how Tyson ducks under Williams' jab, comes up with the hook, it is a great manouvere. Williams was no mug, he lost a decision to Larry Holmes in 1983, I think.

Mike Tyson had many memorable nights.

Hi greatest fight was Thomas who had been touted as the heir apparent to Holmes in KO magazine and a number of other US titles at the time.

The most intriguing was Douglas. Seeing somebody stand up to Tyson and put him on the end of their jab was finally going to answer the questions hanging over Tyson. I thought Tyson would dig in and show his greatness. I was wrong...

Why were you wrong, ezzard?

I thought that was a good showing by Tyson and he took that jab well.
IT was a very fouling fight, something that Tyson did again and again when in trouble and frustrated. Even in his last fight he fouled with low blows, bitting the tits of McBride and trying to thumb him in the eye and trying to break his hands. He tried to break Bothas arm too, again in frustration.

Buster Douglas busted Tyson in a way that Ruddock might have done without Tysons fouling. Impossible to tell precisely, but Tyson was not exactly walking over Ruddock in the second fight. He stood there and took his lumps and fought back and won. Ugly, but he won.
No one would have minded if Tyson would have won ugly like that agaisnt Lewis, but he couldnt. He tried a few low blows, but didnt go beyond that. Maybe he couldnt try the arm breaking thing because of Lewis shattering right uppercuts and because he was outmuscling Tyson inside and leaning on him tiring him out.

Tysons best war was the Ruddock 2 fight, second best was the Holyfield 1 fights and third was the Buster Douglas fight. He was finally fighting guys that were not scarred and had to beat them straight up, without intimidation, fear factors in it. He only beat Ruddock, so thats why I think that was Tysons best performance. Because here the hype ended and Tyson had to deliver, fight in the trenches and he won.

I agree that the Tyson that beat Thomas was amazing. That was possibly my favorite. The Biggs fight was brilliant also. I have to say that the first Bruno fight was the first sign that Mike was on the way down. Fair enough he won, but didn't look great at all. The combination he landed on Thomas to finish the fight was spectacular

I have to say that the Tyson that lost to Buster was nowhere near the Tyson that reigned supreme. Tyson was a shell of his former self. I'm not saying he was to old or anything (24) far from it. He was just not near prepared for the fight. Rooney was off the scene and Tyson was more into partying than training. The Tyson of old would have KO'd Buster fairly easily...

He was particularly merciless the night he beat Tyrell Biggs. Some were actually saying they would produce fights like Ali/Frazier.

Well, Biggs did a good impression of the greatest in round one, zinging out jabs and moving beautifully but Tyson just walked him down and from the third round just took him apart – finally lowering the boom in the seventh.

Biggs was so battered he was never the same after that fight. Tyson's defence, attack and body punching were great and he finished him very well once he had him in deep doo doo.

Peak Tyson finishing has to be the Pinklon Thomas fight though. He was gone but Tyson was just keeping him up with those hooks and uppercuts. The pain etched on Thomas' face when he finally falls is something else. A real brutal finish.
