I think Billy needs to chill out and/or have a word with himself.

The fact that Sky purchased this farce of an event shows that they are more than interested in the career of Ricky Burns. A much bigger disgrace is them completely ignoring Carl Froch facing five (soon to be six) world class fighters in a row.

Really Sky ought to have got the red card out immediately when this fight was first mooted, as Horse rightly pointed out Laryea wouldn't get in a top 10-15 of the best British fighters in and around the 126-135 divisions.

That he beat Paul Appleby says more about how poor Appleby was on the night than Laryea being worthy. A man who beats Roman Martinez shouldn't be allowed to fight such rubbish opponents.

Burns can only beat who gets put in front of him. i agree the level of opposition should be sterner. Sykes and crolla would be no match for him in my opinion.

Problem is though, saying that you start to sound like a Mayweather fan.

''Ricky doesn't have to fight them because he'd beat them anyway''

At least neither Crolla nor Sykes have multiple losses against nobodies, and are coming off career best wins over good fighters.

We await Alex Morrison's follow-up press release....

Btw, I agree - Ringside should have afforded some time to reflect on Burns win and who he should fight next. On a boxing magazine show - they need to give Burns his fair dues, he is a world champion after all. Smith does sicken me with the OTT Haye and Khan hype. Boke.

It was best swept under the carpet. A farce of a fight and nowhere near a 'world title' clash. Also, as much as like Ricky Burns, it turned out to be one hell of a dull fight fight in the end. What more was there to say?

That's not what i was implying. As i said i think the level of opposition was quite poor do you think Sykes and Crolla deserve a shot at Burns?

I think deserving is an iffy word.

There's no getting away from it, the division is crap.

People just resent the fact that Burns has been handed two of the easiest possible defences of his title, after winning it against a dangerous opponent. The likes of Sykes and Crolla are easily better fighters than Laryea.

Really Burns ought to be facing fighters in the Ring top 10, like Martinez, Fana or whoever. The attendance at the last fight spoke for itself, people aren't going to let promoters/fighters take the piss out of them.

Aye it's a pish division awrite. I'd like to see him in the best as well. Brings to question whether you could consider Appleby to be a creditable opponent for Burns? After the way he lost to Laryea.

Appleby wouldn't have been win or lose against Laryea.

He was dominated and stopped by Martin Lindsay and had only knocked over a couple of bums after having over a year off.

I'd move Burns up to 135 and look for some big fights there. We've had enough paper champions as it is in recent years, let's not have another.

Fcuk off Billy, put your toys back in the pram!! That's a typical Scottish/Welsh/Irish response to something they don't like, if in doubt blame the English (1000's of years of oppression and all that bollocks)

Yeah they looked really anti-Scottish when they sent Jamie Moore up there last week to interview you and Ricky, it was an excellent 10 minute piece if I recall
Lived in Wales for four years (as well as my old mans family) and I have never heard a Welsh person moan about the English or the English being 'Anti-Welsh' I think any 'anti' prejudice against anyone else is actually in Scotland! I had a Welsh mate live up in Dundee and he effing hated it! And isn't Scotland the place where a little kid got beaten up by a grown man in front of the little kids father because the little kid was wearing an England top?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/u ... 083668.ece

A ridculous place - what the English should have done in 1701 was go into union with the Dutch instead of the jocks - at least the Dutch speak better English!

i live up in Scotland, all my life. And if i had to live in dundee i would hate it too :TU:

The Lindsay fight was stopped way too early i reckon. I also thought that Simpson edged him as well.

Laryea had lost to about four guys I've never even heard of, with no form whatsoever.

I'll be honest, my mother would fancy her chances against that bum.

I like Burns, I really do..... but whoever is picking these bums for him isn't doing him any favours.

Burns has faced three decent fighters and is 1-2 against them, that's a cold hard fact.

I agree except he has faced 4 decent fighters and is 2-2 - he did beat a 22-0 graham earl.

I stand corrected, but at least you get my point.

You can't call yourself a world champion if you face opponents like Evensen and Laryea. Fight world class fighters.

Burns aside from this,

Isn't there a bit of a cruel irony, that a pedigree fighter like Jamie Moore, who never had his world title shot, was up there covering Burn's training - for a total feckin bum like Laryea who was never in a million years worthy of a world title shot.

At the end of the day burns is a respected world champion- but it sounds like billy nelson wants us to blow smoke up his arse for fighting a guy ranked what 123rd in the world.

Burns is incredibly fit so i know he''s going to be fighting often and they cant always be high level oponents and thats more than fair enough, but you cant then expect those fights to be compared to Khan v Maidana.

When burns fights another top level opponent we'll all be showing him props just like we did last time along with the sky team who banged on about that win for ages.

I would also point out that on the current scene they had a poll for the least competative announced world title fight - and burns v laryea was one of the highest voted for because it was deemed such a mismatch.

Well, it was

As bad as Haye vs Aud the Fraud.

I've probably been a bit harsh on Burns, I said on ESB that it's a no-win for Ricky and suggested that a dominant stoppage was the minimum requirement, which of course he came up with.

I like Billy too, seems a top bloke, even though I didn't get to the Martinez fight as I promised him I would :DD

Why doesn't Burns defend against one of them then if he would beat them so easily?

It would get a lot more attention than a defence against guys like Laryea.
