Go and have a look at Frank Maloney's site http://www.frankmaloney.com

Top right of the home page is a link called something like 'Maloney meets the press II'.

You have to register to access it but it's worth it.

Us Boxrec lads get some warm words from fight addict and one of the few national journalists to do his bit for pugilism - Daily Sport's Steve Lillis.

Well worth a listen!

I post at both and it is well known at the BBBoc that I am the most knowledgeable man on both forums.

Yes I post there occasionaly, why not it's all good fun. there's some good posters there too, but also a load of lunatics that bring it down a little - same problem our neighbours over at the current forum suffer from.

Had a view, it was interesting. Who was that Kevin geezer next to Frank, he didn't think much of us.

I post at both.

I probably post more at Doghouse because there is a greater diversity of opinion and they have more colourful characters like Chris Aston etc. Everything is more refined over here, but that can also make it a little, whats the word......dull.

But I love both. There are great contributors at both IMO. Though obviously, DH does have its lunatic fringe.

I don't think it's dull at all. For those who look to internet forums to brighten up their lives then perhaps it could be construed as such but to the rest who just want to talk about boxing.... It's quite alright.

to be honest i find this forum 99% of the time to be firstly full of good nature folk who want to have a giggle as well as talk boxing, and secondly prety knowledgable and fair.

give yourselves a pat on the back gents!

Well Steve, how about I help you...

We could do a real-time forum debate, two on here, two
at the doghouse and if it is needed a 5th one at a neutral
site. On subjects chosen by a neutral party because I reckon
our top 5 posters could handle your top 5 posters

Or an inter-forum boxing prediction league.

Or anything else you can come up would be worth
listening to.

This would be a good way to see if Steve 'I write for a newspaper
that claims a bus landed on the moon' Lillis is actually correct,
and therefore a post justifying his comments is feasible.

There is no need for interforum debates though Carlos. I accept that this site doesnt get the shite that Doghouse do which I am guessing is where the comments Steve made came from. Mightywarrior and kilburn are both very knowledgeable huys and from what I have seen browsing this forum Stujones etc. Whereas Payney posts on both and he is one guy I find difficult to argue with as he is usually bang on with most stuff well except for his predictions where I am far superior. Doghouse has people like Sooty, yourself and KG etc who really know their stuff as well. At the end of the day the more popular the site the more shite it will get.

I actually think it is a Lillis dig at Spud... I'll
give Spud his due though, he gets in the thick
of it, he does proclaim himself as 'no1 boxing fan'
and I reckon he is.

We gets tons of shite with the yanks anyway.. so it is no big deal!!!

Steve Lillis is one of the best boxing journalists in the country, and he's pretty well respected by his peers too.

I'm hoping to last the course in the prediction league this season. We'll see how we go then:-)

I finished 2nd in the 1st division last season and 2nd in the premier division this season. My natural progression is for me to win it this season

or Boxing Monthly. I have never seen any of Lillis'
work in either of these.

In my opinion, Lillis comments are a thinly velied dig
at spud woollatt who tends to get around the boxing scene
nowadays and is making a name for himself. His comments
about one set of fans being more knowledgeable than the
other have no grain of truth.

Boxing News isn't a newspaper, it's a boxing periodical, I am talking about newspaper journalists. Other newspaper journalists I've spoken to had a lot of respect for Lillis.

Just because someone writes for a tabloid doesn't make them a crap journalist. You might think what they do is easy, but there's a reason why the journalists who work for the sun and the mirror are well paid.

Writing for a dedicated boxing magazine is in many ways a lot easier, you can write 1000-2000 word articles on any major topic, in a national newspaper you'd be lucky to get 500 words on even a major global fight.

I've written for boxing news before, but when I interviewed Kostya Tszyu and tried to get it in the sun, they weren't interested because Tszyu wasn't big enough news.

Not true - for example BN got rid of one of the best, Houston, and replaced him with one of the worst - Jim Brady.
I still can't work out why they have that deadwood writing for them - the guy is truly terrible.

Just because you have'nt written for these two - BM and BN - means bugger all - just take a look at the best boxing journo of the last 50 years - Hugh McIlvanney.

I would say also that more of the newspaper guys are going to be better writers. Historically certainly the best boxing writers were newspaper guys, not so much now as the coverage has died down and the internet has diluted the need for coverage to an extent.

I'm not knocking the people who write for boxing mags, but it's a different animal. Writing for die-hard boxing fans hungry for information, and writing stories that inform, excite and try and capture the imagination of more general readers is a totally different skill

That's not to say that everyone who writes for newspapers is superior, far from it, in terms of knowledge of the sport, then someone who writes for a boxing mag and only writes about boxing is going to have a greater depth of knowledge than a general sports writer who only writes about big boxing events.

Brady is a bit frustrating but I did love his comment about the huge roaring crowd at the JC Chavez fight the other week - "If Chavez was still young, so were they..".

It sounds like fornicate all but it really got me thinking, so much so that I didn't even read the rest of the report.
